  1. Although it's been hard to take him seriously for quite a few years now and he was far from perfect, I will always remember his music and dancing fondly. At least now we can hopefully stop hearing stupid jokes about him all the time.
  2. I think what I liked most about this mix was the fact that it took a relatively easy to forget track from the OST and turned it into something really special. I'm definitely inspired to check out the rest of your work, and it sure was nice to see FFIX on the front page, I wouldn't say it's entirely underrepresented, but it needed some love and it certainly got some with this mix! Lyrically, I also liked the continued reference to the "Roses of May," I'll probably have to listen a few more times before I fully understand what the lyrics are getting at, but at least they sound great in the meantime. I don't think it would be pushing it to say this track is right on par with IX's ending vocal track, Melodies of Life, which just so happens to be one of my favorites. The fact that the music and the lyrics were all done by one person is certainly impressive to me as well. Compared to the way everyone else is responding I almost feel like I should say more but hey, I liked it, and I hope that's what counts. Normally I say keep up the good work, but you've already done that, maybe some of your other mixes would look good on the front page? Time to go check them out!
  3. I got pretty excited when I saw Dream Master on the front page, definitely a game I remember fondly. I was slightly disappointed when I saw that the mix was of the ending song (which I don't remember) as opposed to one of the stage songs, which I think I would have remembered better, but the way it turns out, I had nothing to worry about. This is one of those peaceful, listen to it anytime you want to relax type tracks, and I'm really happy to add it to my roster, despite the fact that I still don't remember what the original sounded like. Probably time to look into that... Keep up the great work, and I hope to hear more soon!
  4. All I know is a friend of mine mixed this shit with vodka and claimed it was good . Blue drank?!?!
  5. Pretty cool, the Street Fighter intro was fun to watch, and some of the solo moves were pretty amazing, especially the dude at the end.
  6. Not sure how I managed to not hear about this, I will definitely have to give this a look when it comes out. I don't think I can really say no to another Wolfenstein game, what with the original being the first FPS I (and so many others) ever played. Looks like they are really playing up the experimental technology side of it this time, should be interesting.
  7. This is definitely one of the best unfinished tracks hanging around this forum, mind you, it's been that way for a while, so here's hoping!
  8. I hadn't looked at this thread in a while, but since you added a project supporter sig I feel compelled to use it! Project popularity +0.1! (it all counts!) Now, keep up the remixing and I look forward to seeing this project come together soon, can't wait to see what someone comes up with for Obsession, and the Sacrifice series.
  9. Pretty cool, definitely checking out more of this!
  10. Definitely excited to see what people come up with for the Underwater theme in Lufia II. I like my Underwater mixes! Then there are the obvious ones, Lufia II (and I assume 1, never played it) had very grand rock style combat themes, and I can only assume that the remixes of these will turn out nothing short of epic as well. Parting is another favorite of mine, and I wonder if it would be possible to turn nothing into something and do a mix of the Inn jingle? Ok, that last one might be pushing it . In any case, good luck with the project guys, this will be a great one to look forward to for the next... while or so!
  11. Personally I was really happy to see this source get tackled, and boy did this ever turn out unique. I'm always happy when someone strays from the norm and tries some new things (and a "new" source in this case) and this is just something else, I really liked the way it ended as well, with it just kinda... staticing out as if the machine finally died or something. Keep up the awesome work! Edit: Listening to it a few more times, the way the beat basically evolves out of random static is truly awesome!
  12. Looks like something I'd like to try, but lacking a DS and all, not quite sure when.
  13. Too many movies and shows to count have been filmed where I live, in Vancouver, BC, Canada (which is sometimes jokingly referred to as "Hollywood North") . But just to name a few, one obvious one is the first 5 seasons of the X-Files, with the final episode of season 5 actually having its story formally take place in Vancouver for once instead of just pretending it was any number of US cities. Movies, one humorous one is Rumble in the Bronx, which... was not shot in the Bronx, and, more recently, several scenes from The Day the Earth Stood Still were shot at the University of British Colombia. But there's a hell of a lot more where that came from!
  14. Pretty cool, I've been known to be a fan of the various free albums people have posted about here and this one is no exception, keep up the good work!
  15. It is pretty grind-happy, but I'd say the difference between now and years ago is that they have finally added some very practical ways to get exp without having to be in a full party, making it a lot more friendly to play than it used to be. If I had to guess, FFXIV will have a lot of this stuff implemented from the get-go so hopefully it won't get the same reputation FFXI originally had of being incredibly time consuming to do anything (which for the first few years, was pretty true I'd say). Class (or as they like to say, job) balance still has it's issues, though most jobs are fine there are still a few that do very little other than get laughed at by the majority of players. This is something that has been the case forever with different jobs at different stages of it's update history, so I wouldn't be surprised if this trend repeats itself in FFXIV (but it would be nice if it didn't.). For example, Kiyosuki brought up the Ninja job, which is a perfect example of a job that hasn't gotten anything new in literally years, while some jobs like Samurai and White Mage (yes, White Mage of all things) have gotten amazing new abilities.
  16. Just one? (Pay no attention to me...) That said the trailer did at least confirm that it won't be Vana'diel, it will be Eorzea, which from the trailer seems to feature FFXII-like airships (that sort of star wars feel), large flying monsters (could that have been a possible summon?) tail-less Galkas (but those were totally Galkas!), and a hill very similar to the same hill in the first CS of FFXI... weird, but very.... Square.
  17. Personally I was referring to the Acostic Guitar ALttP mix from VGMix that SwordBreaker linked to when I made that statement, just in case there was any confusion (I guess "that Zelda mix" could mean a lot of things though). In other words a song that I enjoyed listening to (which is what I meant by "good"), that happens to not be on OCR. I certainly did not feel that ZH was not OCR material, if anything it was a good example of the more interesting approach to getting on OCR, imo.
  18. Would have to agree, and I think a mix like that could be used as an example of a situation where a song doesn't necessarily have to be "OCR material" to be "good," if that makes sense. I imagine there are a lot of situations where the judges really digged a mix but it didn't quite make the OCR standards, which does not automatically mean said mix was garbage (which I only bring up since SOMETIMES it seems like people will interpret a NO that way).
  19. I've played FFXI for years now, and the most puzzling part of this announcement was the fact that previously SE had started that their next MMO would have nothing to do with FFXI. While this does not directly tie into FFXI, it essentially looks like they are making the same game, in a different world, with the same races, and somewhat obviously, much better graphics. As a longtime player, this does look pretty cool though, and as long as there is a PC version, I can see myself giving it a shot. I think it's definitely true that when FFXI launched, not many people had their PS2 connected to the internet and the hard drive needed to play FFXI, versus now with PS3 owners who obviously have a hard drive since the system comes with one and are presumably connected to the internet. This will be a lot easier for people who are interested to just buy and jump into, which could help the game's sales numbers, especially given the FF brand again. That said, don't expect it to be anything like EQ(2), WoW, or any North-American based MMO. FFXI is a bit of a unique, somewhat oldschool black sheep in the MMO market, and I would expect FFXIV to be much the same despite the passage of time between games, I guess time will tell.
  20. Since I love to hang around in the WIP forums (oh wait, guess that's the "Workshop" now), it's really nice to see something that was kicking around there for months, if not the better part of a year make it to the front page. I actually hadn't listened to too many WIPs of this particular track and have to say that I'm really impressed with the finished product. It certainly starts innocently enough, not veering a whole lot from the course of the original, but once it turns to the dark side, this track gets very interesting, suddenly we have an "evil" version of Blue Fields topped off with some always-welcome "FLWV" chants. Those chants were one of my favorite parts of FFVIII's soundtrack, and including them here definitely helps to give the piece some more power.
  21. Definitely, that game had a very unique feel to it, both gameplay and soundtrack wise. I don't think it's what anyone was counting on as far as a sequel to SMW goes, but it was a lot of fun, and trying to get 100% of everything was great fun (and very doable without a guide).Kind of interesting to think about this actually, for me I actually, much as I hate to admit it, I lost (lost may not be the right word, but it's close enough) a number of my NES games, having loaned them to people way back in the day and just kinda... never getting them back. So let's see here... NES: Zelda !&2, Dragon Warrior, Adventure Island 2, Xexyz (yes, that was how it was spelled), Dr. Mario, Batman, Bart vs the World, Lost my copies of SMB1, 2, and 3 (pains me to admit), having a hell of a time remembering what else I own for this system, back then, I rented games close to every weekend so I never did own a single Mega Man game despite being a huge fan, etc. SNES: Chrono Trigger, FF6, FF4, FF: MQ, Ogre Battle, Zelda: ALTTP, SMW, Super Metroid, Lufia II, ActRaiser, Lagoon. I rented a lot of games in the SNES era as well and generally only bought the longer games, as evidenced by this list. PS1 (Never owned a PS1, just bought the classic Square RPGs to play on my PS2): Chrono Cross, FFIX, FFVIII, FFVII, FF: Origins, FF: Tactics PS2: FFX, FFX-2, FFXII, DQ8, Xenosaga I-III, Suikoden V, Mega Man Anniversary Collection, Mega Man X Collection, Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, Capcom vs SNK 2, Capcom Fighting Evolution. I have never rented a single PS2 or PS1 game so I guess what this list says is that once again I generally only purchased the longer games or collections with a lot of replay value. That comes out to a mere 38... you could probably safely add a few more to that, as I know there are some NES games I'm forgetting, but I think I'm about right as far as the SNES and PS1/2 go. Now I could add quite a few more (legitimate purchases mind you) if I went outside of consoles and added PC games to the list, but that would be more time consuming than I'm willing to dedicate the time to at the moment .
  22. Don't really have much to add to this except to say that this is exactly what I was about to post. If it's something I really want to see, I can usually use a proxy to get around it, but overall this "US Only" stuff is and has been a pain in the ass for quite a while now.
  23. Just because I realized I should probably give props to one of my favorite mixes, I'd like to say that despite the simplicity of this mix, it is hands down one of my favorites overall. I almost wish it had gone a little further, it seems the way it was fading out it could have lasted a little longer, but what the hell, it's still a lot of fun to listen to (and I generally have to listen to it twice anyway!).
  24. I think it's only natural to think that things have evolved somewhat over the years. Interestingly enough, one of my favorite mixes, "Registration4" was posted in 2001 (I had to look that up, thought it was more 2003), it's probably one of the simplest mixes on the site, but it certainly has a certain charm to it. I do wonder if something similar to it would get accepted these days, but, if it didn't, at least the mixes of the past remain to remind us of how things all started. These days there are a lot of very professional sounding mixes, tempered with some... more interesting takes, a couple of which are at the forefront of the site now with Zelda Heineken and the CT percussion mix. The way I see it OCR has gotten a lot more popular over the years, I haven't posted here a ton but I have followed the site from the early days, and when I think about what I thought about it then, which was basically, "a site where some pretty cool video game remixes are posted", to now, which is more "a community of people with a passion for video game music and a massive vault of remix goodness," I'm glad that it has become what it is. Some friends of mine that don't really come to the site at all have come to love certain mixes that I've directed them to, and are on the edge of their seats anticipating the upcoming FFIV album just as much as myself. A few years ago if I'd told them about "the upcoming OCR album" they'd have probably just shrugged, but now, the OCR name carries some weight. In short, I'd say yeah, things have evolved, but it's all been in a positive, logical direction if you ask me.
  25. I've certainly heard the name Cave Story before but I always assumed it was some little known RPG with a decent soundtrack, maybe I should like... play it.
