  1. Hmm, let's see here, Chrono Trigger...jazz remix..., couldn't have an easier time winning me over with this one, almost too easy (not that I'm implying it was easy to make!). Keep on rolling, stuff like this is never going to get old, way to go guys!
  2. Great stuff, been ages since I played through Lufia II (wasn't quite at the top of my rpg list, but far from a bad game) hearing this inspired me to go dig up a Lufia II gamerip since I knew I remembered this song but just had to compare it to the original. Lufia battle music is pretty much all hard rock in style, and you definitely nailed that aspect of it here. Here's to reawakened memories!
  3. Neither of these games came out in 2008, but since I didn't play through them till a couple of months ago, I'm going to have to say playing through Portal, HL2, and both of it's expansion episodes were my favorite gaming moments of the year. Hard to believe it took me so long to get around to playing through such awesome games!
  4. I have to say I always wanted to hear someone try to do a remix of this song, great choice, soulblazer was always one of my favorites on the snes. I really like what you've done quality wise, it sounds like a touched-up, modernized version of the original. Definitely not different enough from the original to become an OCRemix, but it was still great to listen to. I'd be curious to hear more although this to me sounds more like a remake rather than a remix, would need to really change things up if you were leaning in the direction of actually submitting eventually.
  5. No doubt in my mind that this is instantly going to become my favorite OCR album after the first listen. For someone like me who grew up with FF4, this will be nothing short of epic.
  6. Well, not really feedback, but like the Chrono Trigger Mixtape, I found this highly entertaining, if nothing else. I do like the way you varied the parts of Awakening that you used for different pieces of the song, not something I'd have ever thought to try but it worked ok, some parts better than others. Not familiar with the original (the Nas song that is) so can't comment on that part. I can pretty well guarantee that anything like this would never make OCRemix, but that doesn't mean that you couldn't come out with something similar to the CT Mixtape, maybe with an FF6 theme or something. That way you wouldn't need to adhere to any standards, and could just sort of have fun with it. I definitely think there's room for this kind of thing out there, and you'd find an audience for it here, among other places.
  7. This ended up being a lot better / funnier than I would have originally thought, any fan of NES games should give it a listen, with Christmas Carols in mind.
  8. Not to take any attention away from OCR, since I love it and all, but if you liked this one, you owe it to yourself to check out the rest of the OneUps Volume 2, hell of an album!
  9. Well if it was good before, it's REALLY GOOD now. Wow, I'm so happy you went back to this, the new drums sound great, and I liked what you were doing towards the end as hell bringing the main tune back in a different way. Course it still cuts off but I'm sure you'll come up with a great outro soon!
  10. Some interesting additions here. The drums throughout the piece have really been strengthened, or added newly in some areas, I think it works pretty well. I really liked the old outro as well, now that you've changed it to make it sort of lead into a new part I think the new synth "above" the piano sounds good as well. After that new, fairly upbeat part, we get into a new outro which I think sounds pretty consistent with the earlier part of the track, this whole thing really just continues to have a great chillout feel to it. Personally I've always thought you had something great here, but really, by now I think you're probably at least to the point where you can run it by a judge and see what they think, getting pretty close here I think.
  11. I've really kind of wanted to try this game but I'm having a hell of a time figuring out what genre of game it is. I've watched trailers, seen commercials, and everything just looks like one big cutscene to me. I was a huge fan of the original PoP I and II, but have a feeling that even though I may want to like this game it just may not be for me
  12. Well, I had to quickly peruse my F-Zero rip (yeah, I keep stuff like that around for situations like this, been... quite a while since I've played that game) to make sure I could fully appreciate how this relates to and is different from the original, and I have to say, this is rockin'! It doesn't let up, keeps that "racing" feel, and yet varies itself enough to not get boring, or overwhelming, loved the way it just sort of quietly faded away without getting "slower" if that makes any sense. More than anything I have to say that it just feels like karma coming around that Rozovian finally has a mix of his own posted, considering all the great advice he dispenses on the WiP forums seemingly daily. It wasn't until recently that I realized Roz didn't actually have any mixes posted on the site yet, but I knew it was only a matter of time, congratulations man! Next up, Chill Penguin!
  13. As I recall I found a bgw to mp3 converter and just converted the install files to mp3. I can probably devise a way to make them available if you want .
  14. As a fairly hardcore FFXI player, it would be just wrong for me to ignore this one. It's really too bad it's too large for a potential submission because quality wise, this seems about on par with the FF Piano Collections albums. It is definitely a little long, and combines several memorable themes into one. I have to say, a POL viewer remix? I may be the only other person alive who can appreciate that, and I have to say, it did bring me back to the early days, haven't been to that screen in years after all, but I did remember the tune (yeah, I have mp3s of the pol viewer songs, not gonna lie... lol). Overall this is just a lovely piece you have here, and if you could devise a way to split it up, or shorten parts of it, I wouldn't be surprised if it could find a home on OCR as only the second FFXI remix to make the cut. That little choco tune to end it was gold too, I'm not sure if you so much have to "work" on this one so much as you just have to retweak it to meet the requirements of the site.
  15. Well now that you mention it, that's actually a taller task than I might have imagined. So how do people go about naming their mixes anyway... let's try! Just for fun, let's see if you like any of these: "Scintillating Blast" (or Burst, or whatever suits you, Scintillating is a pretty cool word imo!) "Purple Shock" (Lavender Shock, Violet Shock, whatever version of purple you like more, actually I think his attack was more pink than purple, but point made.) "Electric Monkey" ("Electric Baboon"?) Trying to avoid using the word Mandrill as that would be more obvious and less creative, or at least that's how I see it.
  16. Nice mix, have to say, I'm a little confused by the title though. I've seen this thread bumped up and down the WIP forums here for the past month or so, and every time I've seen the name I've kinda stopped and scratched my head. I am glad I finally let my curiosity get the better of me though since this is really cool, I especially like the softer piano elements. Any chance you could elaborate on what the name means, or if there is some inside joke that I'm totally missing out on here?
  17. wow here's one I forgot about, I've had this in my WIPs folder forever, definitely finish it if you can!!
  18. Well I really can't help myself with this one, it's too good to be forgotten. Anything still going on with this mix?
  19. Considering the length of the original I think the length and variance of this mix is perfect. Very dreamy, or whatever other word you want to use to describe it. I can see it being used as an intro to some sort of bizzare 70s movie or something, very different. Funny thing is somehow, this ended up being the first SMB3 mix that I have downloaded, considering how often I come here to check out new and old mixes alike, that was a bit of a surprise.
  20. That 8-bit intro is pretty crazy, always liked the MM8 intro movie. The fact that it's the JP song does kill it a little bit for me, but graphically, pretty awesome (The fact that they bothered to make an 8-bit version of the Amercian intro song does restore a lot of my faith though).. In a way I think an 8-bit MM8 is pushing it, but at the same time, the PSX Mega Man games were never really that good imo, so this I expect will be just as cool as the MM7 conversion was, and most likely a lot more work to make. I think playing through an 8-bit MM8 will feel a lot different versus the original psx version compared to playing through the 8-bit MM7 versus the original snes version, I guess time will tell.
  21. Final Fantasy IX uses this in a couple ways that I can think of off the top of my head: The Overworld theme "Just over those Hills," "At the South Gate Border," "Garnet's Theme," and the ending vocal song "Melodies of Life" all share the same melody. The title screen song "The Place I'll Return to Someday," "Oeilvert," "A Transient Past," "Ipsen's Heritage," and "The Four Mirrors" all share the same melody (but certainly not instruments!) as well. Going down the list, there were actaully more songs that shared melodies than I realized now that I've bothered to write them all out. Well, there you have it! May be some others on the FFIX Plus! OST (in fact I can almost guarantee there are), but I'm much less familiar with the tracks on that album.
  22. I actually meant to comment on this about a week ago but got sidetracked. Definitely a fan of what you have going here, the intro in particular is great and really sets the tone for this merger since it essentially takes the into from Magus's theme then takes an upbeat drum similar to the intro to Seymour Battle and it goes from there. I can definitely hear attempts to capture the tunes of both Magus and Seymour Battle throughout the rest of the song as well, the only problem is, like many have said by now, at several points during the song it sounds like too much is going on in one space. I also like the little CT sound sample from Magus' castle at the end, definitely a nice touch. I hope you stick with this and clean up the middle a little bit because as far as mergers go, I generally don't like them but really feel like you've nailed that part of it. Side note: Seymour Battle is one of my favorite FF battle songs ever, always felt like it was much more epic than the battle it is actually used in in FFX, and it's nice to see it get some love.
  23. Awesome! Just when I thought there was no way there was room for another "Brinstar Red Soil Area" remix Shnabubula steps in and proves me wrong. Then again, ever since "Midnight at Club Corel" I knew I had to keep an eye out for more, these jazz mixes are right up my alley. Keep up the good work and looking forward to the next one!
  24. I was half expecting this to be a continuation of "Undiscovered" when I first saw this thread. Glad to see you're back at it, this new mix is even better imo. The whole thing has a real "low key chillout" feel to it, I really liked the way you ended it with the piano trailing off, this mix is right up my alley. Nice work, I hope we'll see this on the front page soon as it really sounds like it's close at this point.
