  1. I got nothin' against iLok-based stuff. It's been super-easy to work with for the past five years for me.
  2. Hey all, I just wanted to post about the Groupees.com MAGFest bundle. Lots of excellent MAGFest-related music for download at name-your-price (minimum of $1), and the money goes to support Typhoon Haiyan charity. Oh, and I'm the next bonus to be unlocked. So that's cool. http://groupees.com/mag
  3. Not that this chart is the be-all, end-all of graphics card recommendations, but Tom's Hardware is generally pretty solid when it comes to reviews 'n such. November 2013 Graphics Card Buying Guide It's a great place to start, at least.
  4. I'm about to start streaming the remixing process for Docaty Mountain Railroad, at least for a couple hours (hopefully). http://www.twitch.tv/flexstyle
  5. This is probably JR's best work yet. Highly recommended.
  6. Oh hey, this track! Looking back on it, it's still one of my favorite tracks, but I definitely didn't give it the mixdown it deserves. Too muddy. Oh well. Tends to still fit in very nicely in my sets, though, haha.
  7. Needz moar bass punch. Other than that, I dig it!
  8. Well, y'know, I figure I did everything that I wanted to do with the source at that point, and I like the abrupt ending. Very intentional. :P

Plus, do you know how many complaints you're going to get about the fact that the song was done as happy hardcore in the first place? That stuff is polarizing! XD

  9. Hey man, thanks for posting. Just to let you know, marking a thread for Mod Review means that you've already pushed it as far as you think you possibly can, and that other forum users have already given you feedback during that process. My thread-prefix-changing powers seem to be a bit MIA right now, but you'll want to change this to a "Work in Progress" or "Finished" or something instead for the time being. PM me or something when you've gotten some feedback, and I'll be happy to lend an ear! EDIT: Powers are back. Changed for you.
  10. Basically everything here. I used to program my own drums from complete scratch, and I wasted a lot of time doing it. With all the loop libraries I now own, I can get on to the business of actually creating a genuinely great SONG, rather than nitpicking over the insignificant details. Plus, sometimes loops are the single best inspiration point there is. For me, it's hearing someone else's idea, and then going, "well, if THAT happened, then I should add THIS thing as well!" I've got a bunch of songs that have started life as a loop that I riffed off of. Also, some of the loop libraries out there enable me to use sounds at a quality level that I'd never have been able to achieve otherwise. Some of my taiko drum and tom libraries, for instance, or maybe some really good guitar or ethnic or texture packs. I can program some of it, but it's not going to be as good as the live person who sat down and recorded it for me. Finally, loops save time when I'm in a hurry. I compose music professionally at times, and I rely heavily on loops when doing those projects. I can create a product that sounds every bit as polished as anything I've ever done, and I can do it quickly, thereby allowing me to go out and write even more music after that's done. tl;dr Not cheating. I paid for 'em (or downloaded 'em legally), and the license explicitly states that I have a right to use for whatever I want. My music doesn't sound too similar to anyone else to be a problem. I win.
  11. Rayman. I had the first one for PC, and it was redbook audio. I could just chuck it into my CD player and listen to that glorious soundtrack over and over. I also had a few other games, like a superbike racer and an F1 racer that also had redbook audio. Listened to those things so many times as a kid....
  12. I could probably have it within a month. That'd give me time to pay off my credit card and be sans obligations, if I keep earning money at my current rate (which is likely). If it sells between now and then, no biggie, but I am definitely eyeing that pack.
  13. Man, I really want the Kramer Tape/Tube/Transistors. I just haven't got any money to spare right now.
  14. I bought their mega-pack a while back and have gotten some really useful sounds out of it. I'm kinda bummed they're going out of business, actually.
  15. Oh, yeah, I do! Derp. The title is "HI MOMMY! HI DADDY!" I'll send you a writeup soon.

  16. Possibly, but let me finish up my queue first. Got a mix for SMRPG, gotta finish my collab with OA for Apex14, and have a couple other things I gotta get done first.

  17. The timpani doesn't sound so great, either. Same problem with the other drums--not a lot of tonal variation, and most of the hits sound like they're locked to a grid and at the same velocity.
  18. <MODREVIEW> First off, I REALLY like the way you've blended your trumpet, flute, and strings together. Nicely arranged. You can tell that the samples aren't the greatest, but they're passable and you use them pretty well. Unfortunately, I can't say the same thing about the piano or the drums. Those feel very mechanical and "same-ey," with very little tonal differentiation between loud and soft notes. Also, the sequencing feels very "stuck-to-the-piano-roll," with very little humanization to those parts. At close to 3:00 in the song, the strings and trumpet also start to suffer from this malady as well. For the drums: consider the fact that a drummer only has two hands and two feet. Try and write a realistic beat based off of this fact. Otherwise, it's hard to listen to. Plus, the samples really aren't in your favor. They're dry and thin, without much body at all to them. If you can get a different drum kit and rely less on the snare drum, that might help you out a lot. The alternative might be to forgo trying to make a "kit" drum and just pursue a more traditional, "orchestral" set. Big cymbal crashes, concert snare drums, and a bass drum. That way, you can still get a lot of snare action in there, but you're not losing touch with reality, since the snare is the *only* instrument played by that musician in an orchestral setting. Piano: You might want to try and find a darker-sounding piano, and maybe give it a bit more action in the lower registers. Not sure if I'm really able to pinpoint it, but it's missing "something." Overall I really enjoyed the song, but the mix felt like it was missing something most of the way through. I'm not sure if it was the fact that you hard-panned a lot of your instruments and left the middle of the soundscape wide open, or just that there wasn't a lot of low-end to the track, but there's something missing. Again, I enjoyed it, and I think it's close. Just gotta polish off those last few things. I can tell you spent a lot of time getting the flute, violins, and trumpet "just so." Let's get the drums and the piano to the same level of polish, and I think we'll be on the right track. Hopefully this gives you some good stuff to go off of. </MODREVIEW>
  19. Hey all, I just got done playing at Kikori Con in Flagstaff, AZ. This was my first time playing at an anime convention, and I had a blast. Here's the set, if you want to hear tons of OC ReMixes mixed together! https://soundcloud.com/flexstyle/live-dj-set-kikori-con-2013
  20. I'm also available if wanted, and most of my contact information should be in my forum profile. 13 posted ReMixes, lead producer on the DKC3 album, workshop moderator, and counsel for various other albums.
  21. I recommend this nightmarish track: http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02243/
