Remix Contest - Flexstyle feat. Hollidayrain - Weeping Clouds
Flexstyle replied to Flexstyle's topic in General Discussion
Bump for the weekday crowd? -
Tell your friends! Tell your neighbors! Tell your husband or your wife, if you haven’t already hidden them from ! I’m proud to announce the commencement of a remix contest for my brand-new track “Weeping Clouds,” a collaboration with the excellent and talented Hollidayrain.Listen to the original track HERE. Details: - Entries are due by December 18, 2010, at 11:59 PM MST - Loops and MIDIs from this contest are released to you under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported license. - Multiple remix attempts are permitted and even encouraged! - Remixes must be submitted as 320kbps MP3s – the winning remixers will be asked to send uncompressed versions of their respective tracks. - Send a link to your remix(es) to me at music -at- flexstyle music -dot- com. Soundcloud.com is a great place to upload, but make sure people are allowed to download what you upload. - Keep all remixes PG-rated. I don’t think this will be a problem, but absolutely nothing “objectionable” in the remix. - Collaborations are permitted. I’ll let the collaborators decide how to split the prizes. - I reserve the right to change any aspect of the contest at any time. I don’t think this will happen in any sort of dramatic fashion (maybe more prizes or something?) but I have to cover my bases. - By submitting a remix, you are authorizing me to use it in any way I see fit. - Have fun, doggonnit! That’s all well and good, you say, but what about prizes? Prizes include, but are NOT LIMITED TO the following: - Inclusion on upcoming Flexstyle album “Eye of the Storm,” due for release in January 2010 (1st place) - Inclusion as a bonus track on the deluxe edition of “Eye of the Storm” (2nd and 3rd place) - Entire Flexstyle discography in file format of your choice (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place) - Something else? Stay tuned on my website for updates! DOWNLOAD THE REMIX PACK BY CLICKING HERE!

How do you enjoy your music? Speakers, headphones, what?
Flexstyle replied to Mad Lust Envy's topic in General Discussion
E-Mu PM5 monitors coupled with a Roland PM-3 subwoofer via a dbx 223 crossover, as well as a pair of Beyerdynamic DT880 Pro headphones which I love very much. Occasionally I'll use my Sennheiser HD280 Pros as well, but I kinda hate the sound of them and mostly use them only when leakage is a big problem, like when I'm recording. Soundcard for casual stuff, e.g. listening to music, playing games, whatever, is just my motherboard's crappy built-in sound card. When I'm mixing/recording, I use my M-Audio Delta 1010LT. -
Graduate of audio engineering school and avid semi-pro mixing engineer here (meaning I get paid when I do it but it's not much more than a side thing right now), would I be able to at least take a crack at this sort o' thing? I'm mostly an electronic artist, and that's all you'll be able to hear of my work, but I've done a good bit of jazz recording/mixing, thanks to some friends who were generous enough to lend their time and instrumental expertise while I had access to the school's recording studios. I might even be able to upload some of my work if you need to hear such a thing....

While remixing is possible without a MIDI file, it's sure a heck of a lot easier when you have a frame of reference!
-
I'm getting whatever I get. To be honest, this isn't so much a mastering process as it is a "final checkup," if that makes any sense. A little compression here, a tweak of EQ there, but nothing really serious. The goal is to make the album sound perhaps a little more uniform across the board than previous albums have sounded, and while everyone's got a different mixing style, I like to think I can do a bit o' tightening of loose ends here and there. (you could always PM Wes if you want to hear what I've done, if you're concerned, by the way--I have no problem receiving critique)
-
For those of you who're wondering about the Jungle Jitter track: YES, please send us a WIP! Make it a somewhat substantial one, so we can get a good listen to it, and make sure you'll be able to finish it in time. Otherwise (and I feel comfortable speaking for Wes about this since I spoke to him about this very subject today), we have pretty much nothing going for Jitters. I'm personally working on a remix of it, HOWEVER, it's a very loose interpretation and doesn't really include enough source to be anything besides a bonus mix. Please please PLEASE send us a WIP so we can see if it's up to par for getting this track locked down!

What are all the genres clubs typically play?
Flexstyle replied to Modus's topic in Music Composition & Production
To the best of my knowledge, at least here in Arizona where the rave scene and the club scene are two entirely separate arenas, DnB is played much more at raves than clubs. However, this is the US we're talking about here, and the only "real" dance music that ever gets played in clubs, generally speaking, is usually of the electro-house variety. Trance, DnB, hardcore, etc, are usually relegated to the younger audiences and lower inhibitions of the rave scene. Which, honestly, is a crying shame--DnB is probably the single most versatile genre in electronica, and deserves a much larger spotlight. -
Hey everyone, I just wanted to point y'all over to this awesome free 33-track electronic music compilation, put out by a group known as the Electro Freaks. This sampler includes a few tracks from members of this community--namely Hollidayrain, SGX, zircon, and yours truly. http://electrofreaks.bandcamp.com is the place to be! Hope you dig it.
