  1. First off, I would recommend ASUS as your motherboard manufacturer. They consistently pump out quality motherboards, and rarely have problems. I've used 'em several times myself and am quite happy. Sound card--this depends on what you're trying to use it for. Will you be recording, or will you just be producing tracks "inside the box?" I personally use an M-Audio Delta 1010LT and like it very much, but it's a ten-input, ten-output card--I do a little recording on the side and do need every channel I can get. If you're only recording a vocal or an instrument at a time, you're not going to need something nearly as crazy. Processor: This is a matter of pocketbook preference, really. AMD and Intel both make good processors. I think Intel has the upper hand right now in the processor wars, but AMD will get you a lot more bang for the buck in the lower price ranges. Graphics: Again, your needs will dictate this. ATi is the current king of graphics power, with their 5800-series, but Nvidia has historically had better support and their drivers have usually been more stable. Both of them have great cards for their various price tiers. Good manufacturers include ASUS, BFG, XFX, and EVGA. RAM: Get at LEAST two gigabytes. More if possible. Good manufacturers include G.Skill, Crucial, Mushkin, Patriot, and OCZ.
  2. I just picked up Bioshock 2 to go with my earlier purchase, too. Half off, yeah baby. Oh and you should all add me on Steam: doctor_uncanny
  3. I just got Bioshock for $5. Heck yeah.
  4. Oops, I did a cursory scan of the boards but didn't find that topic. My bad!
  5. So, I just bought Bioshock for $5. Too good of a deal to pass up. A friend of mine was able to get TF2 for $7 a couple days ago, and there have been just a ton of awesome deals so far. Anyone else feel like bragging on their purchases?
  6. Details 'n stuff here. http://flexstylemusic.com/wp/?p=95 Hope y'all enjoy it!
  7. Yeah, so, I just picked it up. Dunno how long this sale is for, but check out Cakewalk.com and go crazy.
  8. I bought it too--love it so far! Only one problem, though, I accidentally bought it in 320k MP3 instead of FLAC like I meant to do. >.>
  9. Site looks really nice, man. And what's this about an original album coming out? DO WANT. The first preview track sounds bomb awesome. EDIT: I'm also having issues navigating the site, same issue as mentioned before. Firefox 3.6.3, Mac OS X 10.6.4. I'll test it on my Windows machine when I get home. Safari 5.0, Chrome 5.0, and Stainless 0.7.5 can all load and navigate the site with no issues. Wasn't able to test Camino, as it was in need of an update and the download was too slow for me to bother with for now. EDIT2: Odd. Issues disappear when the page is reloaded. Got the idea to do so after Safari wouldn't allow me to navigate the site after a few minutes of happily reading about history and future plans. Reloaded there, problem disappeared and all was back to normal. Reloaded the page in FF and got the same result. Odd.
  10. I really want to come, but I'll (hopefully) be in Denver for part of this time. I'm hoping to make it to the last couple days of the meetup, though.
  11. WOO YEAH IT'S DONE! Huzzah! Since I was a very late addition to the project, I don't really even know the half of what went on for the work this project required. Props and kudos to all involved!
  12. This is a screenshot of my typical FL Studio setup. I generally have my arrangement on one side, and the sequencing/plugins/mixer/file browser on the other side. Works quite well for me. I will never go back to single monitors again, if I can help it, there's just so many ways they're useful. Document on one screen, web browser on the other (great for research papers), game on one screen, walkthrough on the other (cough)....actually, I want to eventually have a nice big TV connected to this machine, too, and position it above the two screens I have. Media center FTW. I'll just say that if you have the money and the space available for two monitors, GET THEM. So utterly useful. Edit: and the apple stickers came with my MacBook / Logic Pro 8, not pictured.
  13. yar. I've since sold the condenser microphone sitting on top of one of the speakers and replaced it with a couple of better ones.
  14. FWIW, Jade is fairly easy to reach via Twitter.
  15. Oh, ooooops! Lol, I certainly wouldn't want to avoid proper protocol, I just didn't know what it was. Thanks!
  16. I'd cry foul if it wasn't Beatdrop saying this, lol. Personally, I kinda like the mishmash of genres, but it's more like ethnictronica with a psytrance edge. Still is teh awesomes though!
  17. Woot for Goa/Psytrance on OCR! Doesn't happen nearly enough (heck, has it ever happened before?), and Andy and Jill did a spectacular job!
  18. edit: all content removed for privacy's sake
  19. I wonder if that M-Boss Battle track is still open? Twitter'd Jade, but I'm going to work on the remix whether or not I get a response.
  20. Never heard the original (as is the case with me and most of the songs on this site ) but I really dig this remix. Orchestral-synth-rock-chiptune-piano-epic...can't go wrong!
  21. I've been enjoying this song for quite a while, and it's great to see it finally get posted! Congrats, Sreyas!
  22. That bass is probably the sickest (in a good way) thing to come off the OCR mirror sites in a loooong time. I second the idea that it might have been better off just taking one theme and direction and running with it, but the medley is cool too. It's definitely one of your better mixes, mister Aversa, and I absolutely love it! Slick production values and OH SWEET MERCY DID I MENTION THAT BASS? Zebra 2, yes? Props! (by the way, everyone, you should add me on Steam so that I can play TF2 with you, now that this song has brought it up: doctor_uncanny is the id)
  23. Hey all, just thought I'd plug my third and newest album right here, entitled Enchanted. It's a collection of original and collaborative tracks, generally leaning towards the atmospheric and possibly danceable. Stream it online or buy lossless (or whatever else you may desire) tracks over at my Bandcamp.com page! There's also a lot more music and stuff to hear on that page, or you can head over to my website (in my signature) and check out even more tunes. It's all free to stream, and most of it is either highly inexpensive or even free to download, so please check it out!
  24. Exactly. I'm incensed that I can't make a remix of a track from a 20-year-old video game system sound like it's coming from a retro 20-year-old video game system! This injustice shall not stand. It's still a major breakthrough in music creation, though. Forget the thousands of dollars I've spent on gear over the past five years of my life, this is all I need!
