  1. Hooked from second number 1. The beat is uber tactile. The lead dueling makes me think that this is was Elias and Henrik would do if Sonata Arctica did a electronic-themed game remix. Awesome.
  2. Didn't expect to enjoy this as it got going, but ended up really enjoying it by the end! That 5-note lead that kicks in after 2:00~ locked the whole thing down for me.
  3. Haven't heard a house track in a minute...though I think the last one that I did listen to was a Zelda remix as well. Dreamlike state indeed. This mix feels progressive the whole way through. I never got the sense that I was being restricted by any particular element. The varied kick comes through so clean on my system too. Well done.
  4. This reminds me of the end-of-programming music videos that are often show on tv late at night in Japan. Super comfortable, well done!
  5. Very carousel feeling. Dreamy and tactile. I really enjoy this as a work BGM. Awesome halc!
  6. When I found OC Remix for the first time, this is the first track that I listened to. Still love it. Such a late 90's / early 00's dance music homage, and with the vox and ring SFX...it just hits the nail on the head. A thoroughly enjoyable listen, and holds up really well.
  7. My favorite remix of my favorite Zelda title (it was the first one that I played, c'mon). To me, a remix really feels at its highest level of success when it brings out the themes and motifs of a game's story and concept in a stronger or new and interesting way. This track most definitely does that for Zelda II. Plus, all of those acoustically juxtaposed synths really just leave ya feeling good deep down.
  8. This track is a lot of fun. The synth work/modulation really captures the feel of the game I think. Quirky for sure, nice Queen allusion, and it never gets boring!
  9. Really enjoyed this. It's melodically honest in the intended theme and while it could be taken as feeling a bit melancholy, I think there is an adventurous, hopeful feel to it as well. Nice!
  10. Could I please have my name changed to "MrKyle". Wix has been abandoned Cheers! Edit: Seriously, that was 5 minutes ago! Thanks to the powers that be.
  11. I can't say that I love the crashes especially in the latter parts of this piece, but for the most part, I love it. Very smooth synth work and I think it does what any good ambient groove should: slow you down, make your mind wander (ah those were the days), and put you in a trance. The leads shouldn't get in the way, and they don't they definitely compliment the whole composition. The crashes just bring me out of it at times; a bit too harsh. Also, I agree that it could've been mixed a bit more aggressively, and that the bassline could be more pronounced, but this piece sounds great over monitors and crappy two-way desktop speakers. So that speaks for itself. Nice work!
  12. The Udu is dead on. That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Snapple! Now it's time to tinker...
  13. It would be a modified bass drum of sorts. The timbre would be closer to a conga than a std. kick drum. This might help... http://bluelaguna.net/downloads/mp3s/ffxmusic/28+-+Sprouting.mp3 the primary bass hit in this piece is what I'm trying to get close to.
  14. I'm trying to find close examples to describe it, but I'm sure that if I can describe it someone will get what I mean and point me in the right direction. I know the sound, I just need help figuring out what physical parameters I need to adjust to achieve it. If anyone has access to the FFX soundtrack, it's close to the initial/throughout bass hit on the track "Sprouting Confusion". Almost like a low end African water drum, it has a flexed or stressed sound at the peak of the hit. The attack is tapered off and there is a definite tonal quality to it. I'm trying to achieve that hit, and then work with it just a bit in a synth. If anyone doesn't think this sounds insane and has any insight, I would totally appreciate it. I've been working on this for weeks (this might point to my beginnerness) and I just can't find the right sound.
  15. Does anyone know of any software out there (freeware if possible) that allows me load up a MIDI file and it will scribe it as notation? I have Power Tab and it's nice, but I can't load midi's of say, a piano because there are no tunings for a piano in Power Tab (guitar prog). Any ideas? I have the almighty FL Studio 7 XXL, yet can't seem to manage this tiny idea. Thanks!
  16. Does anyone know if there is anything like that out there? Like, clips or arrangments that you can download that haven't gone through final mix down and mastering. I guess it sounds a bit odd, now that I think about it, but still, if it's out there, it would be great for practice. I know we can all use our own arrangments, but that kills the idea of solely focusing on the mastering aspect by adding biased or your own visions of your song back into the equation. I'm just trying to "isolate the variable" so to speak and just focus on mastering to learn more deeply about all of the sonic properties. Ok, this is way too long now. If anyone knows, let me know! Thanks!
  17. Harmony, seriously, thanks. Even though I haven't ever used Ozone and currently don't, this evaluates a lot. I'm going to go di through it!
  18. This sounds dead on to me. It's like, you are given the options, and without experience with all of the settings, it's hard to know how much is enough. Expecially when you listen to your mix 50X in a row to try to narrow in on the "problem". I mean, you look at the sliders and think "these all must be (mostly) normal ranges, let's start moving..." This is where the problem lies for me. I'm going to try starting flat again and work from the bass up, not boosting anything until the end, then I'll reevaluate. Everyone's advice has been extremely helpful though, so thank you all.
  19. Well, if the idea hasn't yet been developed for this particular device, and if it has been it must be underground because this is a widely identifiable, proprietary device, then I'd like to keep the specifics hush hush. But, the keyboards are find and dandy, along with a a few other touch pads and such, but I'm thinking that, if the physical interaction with the input device changed, how that could affect the creative and arranging processes. I think it could bring a lot more "creative accessibility" to the physical side of DAW work and dealing with synths and MIDI. But maybe that is just a crazy idea.
  20. See if you can grab the file here if you want a listen. I have female vocals and several electric guitars for live instruments and an assortment of synths throughout. Still going through the replies, but I thought I'd post the song here.
  21. I must be missing something here. I've been tuning my mix all of the place and I can't seen to get a balanced EQ sound out of it. I'm starting to lose it. Are there general EQ-ing rules of thumb that I've been overlooking? Are there tricks for making the low -end and the high-end play well together without losing clarity and quality? That is my biggest issue. Everything sounds stable and clear with a flat EQ, but I want to bring it "out", like divide the sounds and give it punch, instead of everything sounding like it is muddled in stereo. Any help? Thank you all!
  22. Hi all. To anyone who can shine light on this for me, my deepest thanks. FL Studio along with many other DAW/and the like allow us to use the keyboard and/or mouse as an input device for midi notes. If we can sequence midi notes with the keyboard and mouse, why not any other usb device we can hook up? I know that the code for this is all snug in the programs, but is there a linking prog that would facilitate this concept? Just wondering, if I missed something when searching tirelessly for this idea. Thanks!
