ScrewAttack accepts Soulja Boy's challenge on Xbox Live.
SotSS replied to Chris8282's topic in General Discussion
I'm hoping that ScrewAttack does for him what he has done to music and the English language, but if they fail, we can still take solace in the fact that even if he were beat them and then go on to defeat every Elite Gamer in the world using nothing but his left ass cheek, he'd still be a moron who's musical creations are proof that God hates us all more than we can ever know, and Soulja Boy is the vessel through which he seeks to wreak his horrible vengeance upon us. -
looking for music similar to BT's Monster album
SotSS replied to prophetik music's topic in General Discussion
Sleepmakeswaves Eluvium Exlosions in the Sky Foxhole From Oceans to Autumn If These Trees Could Talk Glowworm Shora The Halifax Pier This Will Destroy You Toundra Godspeed You! Black Emperor Most of this is closer to Jakob's/Caspian's meterial than BT's Monster, but it's all along the same line. EDITED TO ADD: The Seven Mile Journey Parhelia Nanda Devi Humanoid All these bands are instrumental, btw. -
Beating women as a gang initiation, huh? So basically, gangs in PG County are comprised primarily of giant walking, talking pussies, which means that all you have to do is stay outside of the event horizon of the black holes of manliness that exist in the depths of these pathetic creaures' very being, and you'll be just fine.

My friend told me that the trailer made it look like someone took the DB series, ate it, threw it up, took a huge dump all over it, and then presented the resulting heap of vile bodily expulsions to Fox as the official script. Personally, I think they urinated on it as well, though whether that happened before or after they rung out a towel drenched in salty ball-sweat over it is certainly up for debate.

Indricothere - Colin Marston's (the Warr Guitar player in Behold... The Arctopus) solo project. [instrumental] Balance of One [instrumental] OSV [instrumental] Scale The Summit [instrumental] Sleep Terror [instrumental] Guitar Heroes [Album] [instrumental] Arsis (vocals may annoy you, but James Malone's guitar playing is ridiculous) [band] Canvas Solaris (a lot of slower, laid back parts, but also lots of technicality and shredding) [band] [instrumental] David Valdes [instrumental] All I can think of right now aside from what's already been mentioned.

Typically, starting out when you're young puts you at an advantage, but there are plenty of other factors in play that determine skill than the age at which you begin to learn. Out of curiosity, what instrument are you interested in learning to play?

The post-rock band Jakob has a number of songs that are highly relaxing. Saint, which can be heard on their myspace page, is a highlight, as well as the songs Overseen, I Was Hidden, and Laburnum.

LURKERS: Choose a forum avatar and let me know why you like it
SotSS replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
I'm a big Space Ghost: Coast to Coast fan. I chose this avatar because of that, and because there's no Moltar avatar. Seriously, what gives? -
It doesn't look that great, actually.

Sweet, thanks for the link. I have Mirrorworlds and A Velvet Creation but not the rest.

Band: Sepia Dreamer Album: Portraits of Forgotten Memories Genre: Progressive Instrumental Metal Track List: 1. I. [inwards] Critical Gaze 2. II. “The Ancient Proverb” 3. III. “Iron In The Soul” 4. IV. “An Island In The Moon” 5. V. [Physick Portrait] The Anatomy Of Desire 6. VI. Panorama Of A Timeline 7. VII. “To Winter” 8. VIII. [Outwards] Escaping The Essence Of Eternity Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/72006550/Sepia_Dreamer_-_2004_-_Portraits_of_Forgotten_Memories__by_gorg_.rar or http://ifolder.ru/4272651 Now I know this probably looks like some illegally uploaded album, but, although these two particular uploads were not done by either band member, they did upload this album themselves to P2P networks such as Limewire a few years ago, and recently they told some guy on their myspace page who was looking for the album to just download it from a filesharing network because it's out of print (see the last two comments at http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=8202464&blogID=345537000 for confirmation), so I'd say that counts as permission to download. Enjoy.

Is it just me or is this guy really messed up?
SotSS replied to BluefoxIcy's topic in General Discussion
To clarify my statement, most people have an almost rabid hatred of non-clean vocals and will quickly dismiss a band because of those vocals. This is something I was fulling expecting to happen and my comment was mainly added to (hopefully) circumvent any "omg those vocals are teh gay Arsis sucks" type comments that appear too often when these types of bands are brought into a discussion and aim the focus of these peoples' attention to the guitars (which are the most important aspect of a band like Arsis anyway, as the genre of music that they play puts little emphasis on vocals and places it primarily on musicianship). Personally, James Malone is one of my favorite vokillists, so taking his voice in with the rest of the song does nothing to weaken it for me. -

SotSS replied to BluefoxIcy's topic in General Discussion
I second Kiko Loureiro. Hell yeah. Also, James Malone from Arsis. He does the vokills and plays lead. Most of you will absolutely hate the vocals, I know, but ignore them and focus on the guitar. And yes, the quality does suck, but it's the best I could find. -
In your opinion, would this anti-piracy measure work?
SotSS replied to Hausdog's topic in General Discussion
I agree with everyone else. No matter what you do, someone will find a way to get around it, and quickly. For example, I myself have been working for the past couple of hours or so (and I'm almost finished) on a hack that will undo your "anti-piracy" measures, and you haven't even implemented them yet. I'll probably have it released before you even make another post in this thread. -
The FINAL FANTASY III ReMix Album - "Echoes of Eternity" - loool
SotSS replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
One of you guys should just grab a mic and record yourselves taking a nice, huge dump on the FFIII OS and then post the mp3 on the front page. The end result will be exactly the same, but at least my way takes a lot less time and effort. Morons. You guys keep getting together to make "remix albums" but all you ever end up creating is fecal matter. VotL, Chrono Symphonic, Blood on the Asphalt, etc. Why do you even bother? The "Ice Cap Zone" tribute is pretty much the only good thing you guys have ever done, and you don't even promote it anymore. -
I fan'd, I'm about to judge, and I left a comment wherein I do not hyphenate the word "headphones" as it does not appear in said comment. Instead of free credit, as compensation for my cooperation in matters relating to the judging of song Coactive, the fanning of one SGX, and the commenting that took place on one SGX's profile page, I ask only for your unquestioned loyalty. If that is unacceptable to you, a simple "Thanks SotSS, you jack ass" will suffice, though preferably without the attitude.

"Melodic" rock/metal band w/o growling vocals?
SotSS replied to griffith9's topic in General Discussion
Kalmah - Heroes To Us Kalmah - Evil In You Kalmah - Swamphell My three favorite Kalmah songs. The vocals definitely take getting used to because, well, they're completely insane, but the music is awesome. Power metal + speed + thrash = hell yeah. -
"Melodic" rock/metal band w/o growling vocals?
SotSS replied to griffith9's topic in General Discussion
At about the time that Niklas Sundin stopped writing/translating their lyrics, Anders began to gain too much power. I really think that he is the main reason; before, Anders just growled, and that was pretty much it. Now he seems to be the leader. Daniel seems to have played a role as well. I've never expected much from either Anders or Daniel, really, but I know that Jesper and Bjorn can do better. For some reason, though, they seem content to ride the trendy mallcore train to mediocrity. -
"Melodic" rock/metal band w/o growling vocals?
SotSS replied to griffith9's topic in General Discussion
Nice find with those videos. I haven't listened to In Flames in ages. Don't hate on new IF, though; they may be generic carbon-copies of countless other nu-metal bands playing the same uninspired music, but at least they have a crappy drummer. At least there's that. -
"Melodic" rock/metal band w/o growling vocals?
SotSS replied to griffith9's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, their lyrics are absolutely horrible. The vocals are hardly the best I've heard, but they're definitely not the worst by any means. The Guitarwork is definitely the star. Still, those lyrics... Personally, I prefer Kalmah. Amazing guitarwork as well, and the lyrics are much, much more intelligent, though the fact that English is not their native language definitely shows through. Plus, as crazy as the vocals are (particularly the crazy pre-Black Waltz black metal-ish screams), I absolutely love them for some reason. -
"Melodic" rock/metal band w/o growling vocals?
SotSS replied to griffith9's topic in General Discussion
This sounds just like me a few years ago. Dark Tranquillity are the ones who got me into metal, and when I first heard them I thought the same thing. "This music is great, but those vocals...:-?" After awhile I got used to them, and eventually I even started to like them. Now DT is one of my favorite bands and Mikael (DT's vocalist) is one of my favorite vocalists, and DT one of my favorite bands. (Go out and buy Fiction today!) Anyways, irrelevant and uninteresting facts about myself aside, along with Bahamut's suggestions I recommend: Scale The Summit (See my sig) - Instrumental technical progressive melodic "adventure" (as they call it) metal. Incredibly awesome. Canvas Solaris - Instrumental technical progressive metal similar to the above, although they have a keyboardist and some slow, atmospheric sections as well as lounge-music like sections as well. They're alot like An Endless Sporadic of Guitar Hero III fame only more technical. Sepia Dreamer - Instrumental progressive metal. They are like the above two bands primarily in description only; they sound quite a bit different than the above two in actuality. Ne Obliviscaris - Progressive (god that word gets thrown around a lot these days) melodic black metal. There's a lot of high-pitched black metal growls/shrieks, but there's also a lot of clean vocals and instrumental, vocal-less sections as well. Disillusion - Progressive (there's that word again) Melodeath. I've never heard Gloria, but Back To Times Of Splendor is awesome and has pseudo-clean and strait up clean vocals. I can't really think of anything else at the moment as most of what I listen to has an ass load of growling in it. None of this is probably what you had in mind anyways. -
It would cool if the Pokemon Trainer was voiced by whoever did Ash Ketchum. I really like that voice. Most english voice actors are horrible, but Ash's VA, who's name escapes me, was pretty good. Though, now that I think about it, maybe that wouldn't be too good for the rest of the vocal cast. From the sounds of it, the other voice actors lack the tonal variation and emotional depth of Ash's VA. In comparison, everyone else would probably sound uninspired, and their inability to rend sanity from their listeners as effectively as Ash's trademark monotonous rasp would become immediately apparent. Someone who lacks the boyish innocence meets youthful passion meets this post is sarcastic quality that Ash's VA has refined and mastered over the years would probably be for the best, I guess.
