  1. i like the mix, i think it's a good attempt at dnb. i even dig the way the bass notes create tension against the melody. but the repeating is just a bit too much, and the variation on the original is too little. find more variations, repeat less, and resubmit? no
  2. of course you dig that bassline, it's the business and you're the biz. you are somewhat related, no? (: but yes, that bassline is directly influenced by the white zombie song. i'm surprised it wasn't pointed out earlier. NIN was an influence also. decent ear, you've got. cheers.
  3. you know contrast? conflict? tension? the things that make music interesting? that is where this mix is lacking. it sounds the same from beginning to end. the same leads and 1 bar drum loop nearly throughout the whole thing... not very interesting. no
  4. this has 'generic amatuer dance' written all over it. uninspired sounds, repetition and minimal variation. when electronic dance music is good, it's great. when it's not good, it's really quite bad. this is not ocr material. no
  5. ack, what is this guy thinking? there is way too low-end on this, among other noticeable mixing fumbles. there's a few too many parts in this mix that seem sparse or repetitious. ending is awkward. i'm not familiar with the original, unless anyone can say there is an impressive amount of arranging going on here, this earns a no
  6. i dig the hardcore beats. there's something about a distorted 909 kick that never seems to lose appeal to me. however this mix is unfortunately simplistic and repetitive and does not have much to offer the listener. effortless endings don't earn you many points, either. no
  7. well, there's the original... i'll edit this post once i've decided.
  8. eeggh, this sounds like a midi file with heinous use of controller #10. and as with most midi files, the instruments sound cluttered and lifeless. if it's any consolation, the arrangement doesn't sound too bad, though. now work on the performance. no
  9. like with trenthian's other submission, there are parts of this mix that are weak/cheap sounding and other parts that sound tight and full. i think the mix relies too much on the choir samples. the electronica elements of this mix are very weak and under-developed. however, everything else is quite nice. the gestalt view prevails again. passable. yes
  10. seems mediocre, but i need to give it and the original another listen before i can come to any real decision.
  11. apparently Dev has been trying to submit this ever since he won IMC10, which is a pretty long time so i agreed to fall it thru for him. i remember this mix, and while it was kinda empty at points and the mastering job was weak, the arrangement was pretty good. yes (prot's mix was better though)
  12. gotta love that piano intro and that percussion. tight! lyrics are a bit different, that's good. my problem with this is it doesn't take many liberties from the original, it follows the same chord progression, same structure, same melodies (but on different instruments), and it even has the same minor 2nd modulation on the last part. the terrible emceeing doesn't help and that vocal effect gets rather tiring by the end. i think this merits a resubmit. no
  13. nice tremolo'd intro.. nice bandpass'd leads.. i guess that's all i have that's nice to say. this is a really amateurish attempt at a dance mix of the zelda theme. not ocr quality by any standard. no
  14. ok, he's slowed down the original and brings each part in with limited transition. we go through some really empty sections... then we get some more clever combining of the parts 2/3 the way in. i like the delays on the percussion. the reverb is an interesting idea but the effect becomes tiresome very quickly. try getting rid of the reverb after the listener has enough time to 'get it' more attention to development and mixing needs to be applied here. no
  15. yay, more doom! and it sounds great! oh dang, it's a midi rip with minor embellishments. no
  16. i know 99.9% of you don't need to hear this, but just for the record... this ReMix is in no way an advocation of philosopher Anton Lavey or the Church of Satan. so don't bug me about it (: anyways, thanks to my fellow judges for accepting this and thanks to djp and the rest of you for your kind comments. i may have more to say about this mix later but for right now i need some sleep. cheers.
  17. beginning of this mix was very promising, good chill. then it managed to become completely uninteresting by the end. this is hardly a complete piece of work. no
  18. i like the tocatta cameo, or maybe that was in the original. either way that's neat. good drum work. however, i'll have to agree with the others that this is chaotic and incoherent in a manner that just isn't working for me. the abrupt ending doesn't help. resubmit? interesting attempt, though no
  19. the trills in the beginning are a nice effect. flute sounds very full when it comes in around 1:30. the strings sound very full throughout the track, the voicings are muddy sometimes but not in a bothersome way. yeah, 3:45ish is where this mix really feels good. the distorted guitar abstraction sounds a bit conspicuous at times in this section. overall this track feels like anime underscoring, what with the slow melodrama and fake yet pleasing instruments. of course i could be stretching my generalizations. i haven't heard the first version of this so i can't comment on if this is better or not (hey, this ain't a wip board!) yes
  20. the words are from the 'infernal names' section of the lavey satanic bible. sort of a demonic roll call. it seemed appropriate for doom. i'm probably pronouncing some of them wrong but they're just for effect anyways, this is clearly not a 'song' cheers.
  21. it happened on sunday. i had been playing prboom for about an hour when i realized i had to stop playing right away. i spent the next five minutes coaching myself, "Calm down. Relax. Please don't vomit!" it was like the time i drank that 46 ounce margarita... only this time i was successful in keeping what was in my stomach. anyways, to get my mind off that unusual bout of motion sickness i decided to play around in logic and started a doom remix, which i just now finished. i thought to send it to the panel this time for whatever reason. Doom, E3L2 cheers.
  22. this is very, very simplistic. if you're going to go without drums then you've got to make the other parts more interesting. like some harmonic variation, contrary motion, dynamics! everything is played so straight and lifelessly. this doesn't really offer the listener much more than a mood, but 1:50 of a single mood isn't enough to keep the listener from skipping to the next track in their playlist. no
  23. umm, thanks for giving us your life story? ooh, nice filtered drums and stereo delay. groovy... now where's the big beat drop... ok, no beat drop. where's the build... ok no build... now where's the improv section, there it is. c'mon i just KNOW it's going to get really big at the end... oh no that sounds like the ending cadence. darn. if this built somewhere it might be interesting, it has a cool groove but the lack of development gives it little to offer to the listener. no
