actually "winter soldier" is a phrase invented by Thomas Paine to refer to the soldiers who wouldn't 'quit' being soldiers when it became difficult (as opposed to the "summer soldiers" who'd join up for the revolutionary war but then drop out shortly) the title "the winter soldier" actually refers to captain america himself
