I don't know if I should feel sorry for the guy or not - you seriously have to have some mental deficiency to attempt to rip off the same artist twice in a row after getting caught. Didn't stop me from calling him a fucking idiot, of course, but still. On the bright side, you seem to have an obsessive fan, BGC. Doesn't it just make you feel all icky and creeped out?

Alright, I'm uploading now. It'll be in your box soon, Darkesword. EDIT: Aaaand, done! Here's to a good round, everyone! EDIT2: Hey Darkesword, quick question, while I'm here - what license do we hold to the tracks as we submit them? Most of the time I like to release my tracks elsewhere, but the tie to Capcom makes it a little complicated. Do we have non-exclusive rights, or... well, does it work?

Gah, damn, gotta work DOUBLE-TIME on this one! It'll be in before the night is done, mark my words!

I think they're the same. Sorry if there's confusion, I'm just familiar with the GC version of the game. EDIT: Holy fuck, I still have another compo to finish. Damnit, Sonic, you so distracting!

Alrighty, time to pick the draft! ... I think I have a strange preference for these two soundtracks. Imagine that. Also, if there isn't at least one newer generation sonic track in this compo (anything past Sonic 3d) I will be thoroughly disappointed. Also, I know this is a technicality, but does 'Doomsday Zone' from S&K count as a viable zone or is discounted because it's also boss music for Metal Sonic? I know people will think it's the latter, but if it IS viable I'm sure people would like to know ('cause the music is fucking awesome).

Hmm... Well, as odd as this is, there's not nearly enough source in this for it to be passable. Unlike DrumUltima's source, there's a very basic percussion line, and quite frankly that needs to be pretty salient in this track in order to be recognized as the BT pause theme. DrumUltima lucked out with the CT track in that the percussion was quite complex, which allowed for more variation and options to keep the source recognizable while doing so. Considering the source is a 6 second loop, making the source recognizable AND varied enough would be close to impossible, if you wanted to have a posted version of the track on OCR. If someone wants to prove me wrong I'd be excited to hear it, though.

Oh hey, thanks, it was nice to meet you at Vegas, too. Man, I'm going to get a nice late start, but it couldn't be helped - I only just got back from visiting my family out in NM. May our battle be epic (and my I come out the victor )!

So you're looking for more of an "update" of sorts to the current soundtrack? Hey, I'm fine with that - updates have their own charm in comparison to a full on ReMix (and they're a hell of a lot easier to do, too). I kind of wish there was a more accessible link to the soundtrack, since the link in Lv99's post is a bit on the inconvenient side (there's a lot of clickin' to do to get to each track...). If there's something like a zip with the whole soundtrack in it that would make it a lot easier for prospective remixers and arrangers to hear what they like.

finished Would these be worthy of submitting? Need opinions.
Gario replied to onebadazzstang's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Hey there, nice remixes. As Daragan suggested, putting the UT source in the title of the thread will generate more of a response. Also, including the source is very beneficial to those that are looking at your remixes with a critical eye. Also, in accordance to the rules you should only have one song per thread, and make new threads for new songs, unless you're releasing an album of sorts. In terms of whether you should submit music like this, I will say that your production is well done. I can't comment on source usage without links, but be aware that making the music too much like a cover will throw off your chances of being accepted on the site (this goes for being too liberal with the source, too - there's a sweet spot that the site strives for). Apart from that, I think the two arrangements that you've posted, while neat, are very repetitive, even for trance. Take a look at earlier works of bLiNd and Jewbie, for example, and you'll see that you can make trance with some nice variety with the right sort of bridging and variations. Without the sources, I can safely say these would be rejected due to being too repetitive. The production is pretty good, though, and I feel that if you write something with the intention of submitting to OCR you could probably succeed. Just know who you're writing for and you'll be fine. Also, hey welcome to OCR. -
wip Chrono Trigger & Cross_Sad theme mash-up
Gario replied to HoboKa's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Hmm... in case I don't hear from you for a month, your track is actually a lot more consistent, overall, which is great. Sorry I don't have a more detailed answer but I'm not really available for comment until next week. -
Fei Long aka Dusk. Maybe you need to clear your cookies or something since the OP was updated yesterday.

Wee, getting mine in, after I give the mastering some tweaking + give my ears a rest for the night, to hear any details I may have overlooked. Holy crap, this beats the shit out of my last entry. Hope I can keep up this level of awesomeness for the rest of the compo. EDIT: Alright, I sent mine in - it should be in your inbox, DS.

Aw shit he noticed. No matter, I WILL DESTROY YOU!!

This is the best update ever. This track has been on this site longer than I have... Yeah, it's probably too conservative for OCR, but it's still a pretty good cover. I like it.

Workshop Discussion and Guidelines (read before posting!)
Gario replied to halc's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Yeah, it's common courtesy to post the source (even when you think everyone should know the source, it's still a nice gesture). However, according to these guidelines you MUST have a link to the source if you want to get mod review'd, so it's just a good habit to get into, all around. -
Mediafire works, too - though it does take a little time to upload... if you submit now you MIGHT be able to turn the track in on time.

wip Final Fantasy VI - Searching For Friends
Gario replied to Robotaki's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
... wait, you're not a posted remixer yet? I don't know how that is possible - did you not submit that Tor mix? *Ahem* Well, as for this mix, I do think the issues I addressed will hit you when it comes time for judgment, but actually the sample quality and such are fine, for the sake of submission. As for the pan flute sample, I hear a lot of little details in there that make it sound really neat - more of those effects would certainly help. Also, if you need another parameter to mess with, can you mess with the attack on the soundfont so that there's a slight swell to the attack? If not, you can add one manually via a quick volume increase from 20-100%. Small swells to break the attacks from time to time (and I mean small - 50-100ms) can give the illusion of the performer breathing into the instrument. The clipping-ish part is something you can fix on your own, I suspect. I hope that helps, man - I mean other than that, you're really on the right path, if you want to get posted. Keep at it. -
wip Final Fantasy VI - Searching For Friends
Gario replied to Robotaki's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Huh, the orchestration has a similar vibe to the Tor remix you have on Youtube (which is the shit, by the way). Very interesting. This mix has a lot of additional personality, with the guitar, percussion, piano and atmosphere - very impressive considering the source was something with enough personality to go around, to begin with. The rest of the orchestration is quite beautiful, might I add. The reharmonizations are great - they really make for a more bold arrangement than the original, without losing sight of the source. Awesomeness is all around, there. I'm feeling that the mids in the song are crowding quite a bit when the song has a full soundscape, even to the point where I hear a little fuzz from clipping in that area. It's certainly the plucked instrument that's causing much of the problem (the one that enters at :30), so perhaps tone down on either it's strike or the sustained bass note behind it. In a great track, it stands out quite a bit, for me. The flute at 2:01 is a little bit too artificial (especially compared to the handling of the rest of the instruments) & sometimes out of tune, for my tastes. I think the tuning can be 'fixed' at your leisure, though - I understand in a more human performance it would actually be pretty tough to make it pitch perfect, so that might actually help you out. I hear a lot of breath noises, which really help it along in the right direction, but there are some parts you go straight with pitch bends without any sort of breath in between which is throwing me off a little bit. Perhaps it's a nitpick, but it's salient enough to me to make mention of it. That's really the only thing I have against it, though (well, that and the fact that it's incomplete). It's really a well done track. I'm personally glad to see you back in the remixing game, here, and hope that you stick around with us for some time, man. -
Ooo, a Theory thread! A perfect time to shamelessly plug my own thread about a similar subject... As for the purpose of this thread, I don't really know how you're going to achieve your goal, seeing that what evokes one emotion in a user may evoke another emotion in another person, due to variance of how music has influenced the two people in question in their lives. I am nonetheless curious, though, so I'll send in a question for you - how would you harmonically represent chaos, how would you rhythmically represent disorder, and would the two differ in any significant way?

Hey, can anyone find/provide links to the Street Fighter 1 soundtrack? YT just knocked out all the SF1 music off the site. I mean, really? Street Fighter 1 music? You'd think they'd have something better to get upset about...

To one of the more popular misspellings on OCR, I salute you. Have a good birthday, man.

Sack was just complimenting my mix. If he were trolling the only person it would seem to be working on is you. Don't sweat it; there's nothing offensive or "troll-ish" about his post. Also, I'm glad you liked my mix, Sack.
