I think I'll leave this here... I like the variations that you've made to the theme - retaining the rhythms and general shapes work well to expand the source. I suggest you use other methods to expand the themes, though - in the beginning it starts to get repetitive. Try stretching the theme and layering that idea under the rest of the track, for example. The square wave + bass drum is too empty of a soundscape to use for too long. Figure out a way to fill the soundscape for the track better. The middle of the mix, for example, has a very nice soundscape - try incorporating more ideas like that earlier in the piece. I like this song, though. I don't think it's OCR standard, yet, but I believe with some compositional changes and soundscape adjustment it would have a shot. It's refreshing to hear more minimalist approaches, from time to time. Oh yeah, don't forget a link to the - when I first heard this I forgot about the other themes in Duckhunt and almost called you out on it being too liberal. Best of luck, man.

So while abbreviating this, would I abbreviate your abbreviation, or would I expand that abbreviation? What I mean is, would the abbreviation be BGCDDS or BDDS? The second one just flows off the tongue so much better, but the first oneis more 'correct' technically... On that note, I would certainly rate this site a nine on the BDDS.

You know that this isn't a concern about our copyrights being infringed with the VG music being sold as much as it's Nintendo, Squaresoft, etc.'s music being infringed? One reason we avoid making a profit on these things is because that would infringe on other companies rights on these songs. Not that I want to bring in the bigger powers against the arrangements (since I can't say how far those companies would go - wouldn't want to accidentally cause OCR trouble, for example), but I think it's an interesting predicament, nonetheless.

For whatever it's worth*, I'm getting people riled about it elsewhere, too (NG, for example, is also heavily affected by the site). The more people pissed about it, the better. * - the actual worth is close to nothing, since it's entirely outside the USA's jurisdiction, and therefore the site can just give us the big middle finger if we demand a takedown.

Yeah, sorry for thr stream of thought critiques - I was distracted with quite a few things at once, but at the same time I wanted to give you some feedback, at least. I'll edit this message with some more proper feedback in an hour or so, when I get home. Sorry about the lack of clarity, there.

Alright, there's the source. Seems like you have a decent arrangement of the track so far (albeit conservative). Some of the instruments seem to be pretty bland (like that 'guitar' thing playing rhythm, and the lead synth is a bit too vanilla). Overall, I think you could make this into a much more powerful mix if you spread your mix a bit better, since while everything is in the center, panning-wise, it creates a pretty dirty soundscape. I don't think there's too much going on, though - it just needs to be given more room via panning. The mix is lacking a high end, as well, giving the track a dull sound, overall. An instrument or two that covered the highs would be a good idea to include/replace another instrument with, or even tweaking the master track's EQ highs would be a good idea. I liked the chiptune stuff, and the overall direction could work quite well if you start adding some more variation to the track (as it's on the road to being too conservative, as it stands). The 'live-ish' drum set (especially the snare) doesn't seem to fit quite as well with most of your other instruments, here, since most of the track sounds sequence-centric. If you want to keep the more realistic drums try introducing more real instruments, like a guitar and replacing the sequenced bassline with a real bass... actually, you should find a way to do that anyway, as that would take your track to new heights, regardless. I think it has a way to go to being on OCR, but I don't think it's inconceivable, as long as you're aware of what you need to do, here. They also better be willing to accept this flash game track, because Rokko Chan's soundtrack was amazingly awesome. Best of luck, bro.

Hey, could you post a link to the source, somehow? If not, then at least let us know which track(s) are being arranged for this? I was waiting for someone to take a stab at this, so I'd like to give you some feedback when you let us know which tracks you're arranging.

Not gonna happen. This thread has nothing to do with copyright law, and he knows that he can make an ass out of himself over any other subject so he refrains. This. Holy fucking shit, this.

Is it as appalling as SOPA/PIPA? Perhaps. I don't necessarily believe it's as destructive, though. Don't get me wrong, I'm against this bill, too, since privacy is a basic right, but I don't see it being nearly as cataclysmic as SOPA in the public's eyes... and therefore less likely to generate the heat that SOPA did. It's also not going to generate the same negative response from the bigger players that were on our side before - the likes like Google, Wikipedia and Facebook (hell, Facebook has arguably done similar things, in it's own right) - so if we want to fight we're going to be on our own. I'm interested in seeing how this plays out, myself; if it's brought to enough people's attention, I'd like to see if people could really band together and fight it in a similar manner. To be perfectly honest, though, I'm not quite as worried about it as SOPA, simply because the government has bigger fish to fry than any of us and our pirating ways (MPAA and RIAA would fry everyone in a heartbeat - but they don't have access to the information, I assume). I suspect with this and SOPA this Smith guy is not likely to have a future in the political realm. At least, I hope he doesn't.

It sounds like Soule is falling into the same trap that many supporters are falling into - anti-SOPA people are not against anti-piracy. They are against the incredible amount of power that is given to copyright holders, which in turn COULD turn it into a freedom of speech and due process issue. I love the man and his music, but I would say that he's simply wrong on the issue. I agree that piracy is bad, which is about the only thing that I agree with them on. Most of the message is basically dolling up the bill to make it not look so bad. Admittedly, they DON'T say that the criticism is wrong - they just say that the bill was changed so this isn't true anymore. Funny that they present it as if anti-SOPA people were wrong to begin with, though. This part really bugged me. This is a blatant lie - the site owner is not protected by the same due processes because the site owner is never entirely informed of the action, and therefore has no ability to defend him/herself. It's not like people aren't reading the bill, here; that's what the bill does, by design. And what in God's name does that mean? The ambiguity of that statement is part of the whole problem. It's all too easy to dress that up and make it look innocent, but that is an incredibly abuse-able statement. Who defines this, the court, the copyright holders or the payment providers? If one party doesn't agree on what is feasible and/or reasonable what happens then? Haaahahahaha... Oh alright, it's not permanent as long as the site owner pays all the legal fees required to fight the charges. Also, a murderer isn't detained indefinitely during a life sentence if proof is provided later that s/he is, in fact, innocent. Seriously, it would be hilarious reading this stuff if it wasn't applying to a bill that's trying to be passed. Oh yeah... pretty much the defense of anybody trying to hide something. Really, that link is pretty much garbage, when it comes to supporting SOPA and PIPA.
