The DAW daily technique - is this even a thing?
Nabeel Ansari replied to ShadTK's topic in Music Composition & Production
Seconded. Start a "dailies" folder in your projects folder and write a short piece of music (maybe like 15 seconds) every day. Treat it like a finished product (so mix it seriously and stuff like that). Don't do this too many times though, or your body will forget how to write longer pieces. I'd say try to write one or two full songs a month to keep your creative endurance up. -
Maverick Hunter: Mega Man's FPS almost-reboot
Nabeel Ansari replied to DarkeSword's topic in General Discussion
Kinda both, more the former. Oh, of course there's a difference in tone. But you'd be lying to yourself if you thought it was a "grim dark" series at the level we're talking about here (comparatively, with the FPS). -
Maverick Hunter: Mega Man's FPS almost-reboot
Nabeel Ansari replied to DarkeSword's topic in General Discussion
And neither does the brainwashing of robots to terrorize key areas of modern day society, followed by the Doctor having to augment and send his robot that he intended as a son to go and kill all of his beloved creations who were originally intended to serve humanity, which ends in nothing more than a series of about 9 more repeats? You've got no clue, do you? Bad things happening =/= dark, that's ridiculous. -
Maverick Hunter: Mega Man's FPS almost-reboot
Nabeel Ansari replied to DarkeSword's topic in General Discussion
Sorry, what? Did you even play those games? They're no more "grim dark" than regular Mega Man. Mega Man Zero is the furthest thing from grim dark. It's very lively, many characters, with an emotionally active plot. If Zero was instead a socially inactive game and exploration based like Metroid, then it would fit the grim dark bill that this FPS is implying. (I mean it takes after Metroid Prime, sooooo...) To me, though, this FPS is a bit Zero-ish in style. The character looks like one of the main bad guys (forget what they're specifically called, blue reploids with red light helmets) in Zero. Kinda strange they call it Maverick Hunter, since the Maverick Wars would've ended centuries ago at Zero's reawakening. -
What is the hardest part of the process for you?

OUYA: A $99 Android console meant to open up console gaming
Nabeel Ansari replied to Arcana's topic in General Discussion
Building a PC is a flat 1 hour ordeal. Steps: 1. Put processor in motherboard, then heatsink on top. This is the only "complicated" part. 2. Plug the parts together. They all have unique looking cables and ports. It is virtually impossible to mess this up unless you can't hold a screwdriver. Here's your "quite a bit of setup": 1. Plug back cables 2. Insert Windows Disc 3. Install anything you want Your price argument really sucks. You're not quite understanding that instead of spending $99 on an Ouya I can stay with what I already have for 0 cost. I don't have to rebuy my computer to put it in the TV. -
OUYA: A $99 Android console meant to open up console gaming
Nabeel Ansari replied to Arcana's topic in General Discussion
WAT *cough* Wat. Obviously those 3 that I built never existed, right. I didn't say PCs cost $0. How can you reliably argue if you don't even read? Who are you kidding? Because you don't understand that it doesn't. -

Nabeel Ansari replied to Arcana's topic in General Discussion
Don't mention Steam if you don't wanna talk about PCs. Step 1. Get cableStep 2. Plug Cable Yeah, requires about the same "technical skills" as hooking up an Ouya. It would cost me a big fat $0 to do this since I already have a PC (and I'm pretty sure most people on these forums have one too). You, on the other hand, have to spend $99 because of "technical skills". Steam has and will always have better "exclusives". -

Thank yooou :3 -
Hey guys, I need some timbre experts here. What is the instrument (or type of sound) that is playing in the background here? It's in the high octave, kind of like a whistle and it's doing this nice two note rhythm melody.

93% on the first test and 92% on the second.

Same. When I had Kontakt 4 and GR5 Pro, I had no reason to want Komplete until it become $200 for me. Since those other two products had totaled $230 for me, the total for Komplete was $430, which is staggeringly good for that price. And I disagree about cluttering the VST list. Komplete only has like 8 VST's. A lot of the products are expansions to Kontakt and Guitar Rig. It has Battery Kontakt Reaktor Massive Absynth FM8 Guitar Rig I'm sure I'm missing one or two, but really, cluttering the VST list is a non-issue. -

They do offer crossgrades. Go to the buy page and select "Crossgrade" in the dropdown menu. -
You have to remember the course is not intended for musicians. It's intended for literally everyone. (and remember, it's not a music class. It's a sound class. It's digital audio, nothing more) A complete stranger to the topic may not understand the impact of powerful sound, or that there is an observed and documented difference between listening to something in person vs. hearing it as an mp3. I thought it was a perfect way to start the course. It's a "here is WHY this stuff matters and how it can affect people". Then he goes into how he actually does it in the next lectures. You'll never find a class that doesn't introduce the topic at a surface level. Learning all this stuff about roughness vs. warmth, and tonal sound vs. timbral sound and how it affects the human being makes you a better sound designer. It gives you a way to gauge how your sound will impact a listener quantitatively and it gives you labels for techniques that you can employ (like evoking emotion without at all writing any actual "music")

My 5 so far have all worked just fine.

If you need a tutorial to play a Zelda game, you have a serious problem. The controls are displayed on the HUD and you can pull out the manual if you are so inclined. But a tutorial should never ever be part of the game's story.

Because Skyrim isn't even remotely like Zelda?

I want a photo-realistic Zelda. Something like Skyrim's graphical style. They tried with Twilight Princess, but Nintendo Wii. () That would be gorgeous.

Live Performance Gear - Recommendations
Nabeel Ansari replied to Arceace's topic in Music Composition & Production
Your assuredness is misplaced, the FL performance mode was designed with the Launchpad in mind, and additionally, there is going to be an FL-branded Launchpad in the future. The Launchpad is not a very good device for controlling parameters. It's more suited to launching MIDI patterns and audio clips. If that is what you meant by sample controller, then go for it. You'll want a MIDI Piano Keyboard controller that has some decent knobs and faders at the top. Look into the M-Audio or Korg offerings, you might find something you like. Additionally, the BCR2000 and BCF2000 are pretty sweet standalone knob and fader MIDI controllers. If you DO want to do what the Launchpad does, and you also want to control parameters via knobs and faders, shoot for an Akai APC40. It's basically a Launchpad + knobs and faders, and was tested pretty well in the FL performance mode. -
