have you even heard dillinger escape plan? i think he wants to calm down -
so what's the deal with stevo's car?

well if everything is setup correctly in your audio preferences inside logic then you should be hearing sound with the associated soundcard your using are you just monitoring out of coreaudio or are you using an audio interface?

What head-interfacing listening equipment do you use?
audio fidelity replied to atomicthumbs's topic in General Discussion
they have a critical listening class at my school for Recording Industry and they require us to get Sennheiser HD 600's. not cheap, but I'll be going with those someday soon. i need some good ear buds. been looking at these Shure e4c's -
Recording mallet percussion
audio fidelity replied to snazzypadgett's topic in Music Composition & Production
here are some articles i found that might help lead you in the right direction http://recording.org/ftopict-9927-marimba.html http://www.3daudioinc.com/3db/showthread.php?t=11429 http://www.gearslutz.com/board/remote-possibilities-acoustic-music-location-recording/35103-vibraphone-recording-technics.html i've never recorded mallet percussion so i can't speak from experience i think the biggest thing here that they speak about is trying different mic placements to complement the room your recording in good luck and fyi - you need a mic pre like from an mbox or mixer - don't use you an 1/8 inch connection unless its a last resort -
Yeah - I can back this up Will. Lalo Davila runs a great program. He's a super nice guy too. Linton on the other hand for composition is a bit more eccentric and not a lot of people can handle him. He's brilliant on the other hand. The resources at MTSU in the music building are kinda lame in terms of technology but when you figure how great the recording program is and that you can take some classes through their music industry program then you will get some nice technology/production supplemented with the comp. The RIM program is very competitve and besides the classes they offer for the minor (or major) they don't really allow for outside students to take other classes of interest unless you get permission to - the classes are pretty full as is.

Real-time looping in a performance context
audio fidelity replied to The Pezman's topic in Music Composition & Production
depending on how long the phrases your recording are you could also do it all with something like this http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SP404 i'm not sure about recording your friend live and resampling on the fly in ableton (i've never done it) but this is essentially what this is made for i saw this one avante garde performance where someone was doing something similar - this guy was kinda randomly sampling this girl's voice and mangling it with fx on playback - pretty cool and creative -
OCR01767 - Star Fox "Barrel Roll"
audio fidelity replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
man i dig this track - production is clean and the energy great and moves along from each transition masterfully. but i'm not crazy about the orchestral stuff at the end. it kinda brings the mix down a bit, but it's not that distracting. great stuff -
even though the new stuff is always nice - getting a deal on the old gear with the price drops is the way to go. those poor macbook air guys can buy they're laptop for half the price now - from 3,000 to about 1,500 - now that just sucks
-
just practice singing scales (all modes) and triads - you'll surprising get a lot better with your accuracy - trust me just worry about hitting the pitches - your not singing an aria or anything i am in a music theory class and everyone is forced to sing, and no one really cares - most people don't sound too good - but being able to sing the pitch is going to solidify these intervals in your head - so you can look at a sheet of paper with no instrument and know what the melody is

update for mac users - 1.7.2 for vba is much better i had my save get corrupted on the first day so that was frustrating - and the sound wasn't perfect but i this feels more solid and i think i'm good ***fingers crossed***
-
See here's the thing - When your covering another artist I don't think you need their permission - You simply pay a fee set by the government to license the song copyright (not the sound copyright - that's another mess) - You obviously have to fill out the paper work and all that stuff but I don't think they can deny you or anything. I think thats right... - but maybe someone else that knows for sure and has done it like mustin can chime in.

well strictly talking about audio - desktops really have gotten to a point where you don't have to worry about the same things audio guys did years back. A good system today will last you a pretty long time - until you update to windows 7 (heh) laptops are almost there but i'm just trying to make the point that upgrading you pc isn't going to be as big of a deal in the future as it has been in the past - but if your a top of the line gamer...you can throw that idea out the window.

Yes, please do. This seems like a great project. I am in the same boat as prophet and working on another project (FF4). After the winter break, I'd be very interested in being more instrumental (no pun takin') to the album. also you need to get a male lead for you with the ff6 opera (that might be a cool track to get multiple remixers on for like a grand finale)
-
sounds like a really cool project - not sure i can commit to a mix yet - but i'll throw my services out for bass or guitar also - about the songs you have decided on singing - i take it you have lyrics already in the works for these - but it doesn't say much about style or genre or anything - you should probably be specific in the kind of remixer your looking for to collaborate with
-
yeah mato already addressed that - its a mac thing i have been using save states - ...defrosting states has occasionally frozen my mac - nothing freezes mac - i can usually force quit anything - not sure if it related to full screen or running higher quality - but it sucks

hey gotta step in for logic here bgc while the piano roll doesn't have all the functionality as FL does you do get a hyper editor that allows almost the same step based functionality. It's not as intuitive and has to be programmed but still anyways notation is something that has always steered me toward logic - and while it is nothing to print scores off of for orchestras, it is very nice to look at notes instead of piano roll stuff for me at least. and in terms of recording, the ability to record comps (multi-takes that I can splice together) has been essential in my work flow. but if i wasn't doing recording or anything with notation i would think FL is great choice - both give you a great set of sounds to start with and have a fair amount of plugins that cover all the processing you'd want.

Microphones for Musical Theater
audio fidelity replied to The Pezman's topic in Music Composition & Production
alright - so you have two mics and need to boost some sound in an already small theater. You don't need mics for single performers as they can already project well enough. What you want to focus on is balance and making sure the right presence is heard for everyone. Being that back seats can hear the same thing almost as the front. Now with the PZM - this may be obvious - they only work well when they are against a flat surface. So them being on the floor is fine I think. I have seen PZM's on floors for stage productions before. If there is a lot of movement on stage, it's either for a big number where you don't really need the mic, or probably when there is no singing. I would def advise the cast that it is there so there isn't any fallups later. You can also put this on maybe some other prop on stage if its there all the time. But the floor is fine. I put a condenser on next to the floor from the pit and had minimal noise when I did it. Now with the condenser - two options - use it how i mentioned it above - or, and more importantly, if you need to balance out say ane ensemble as someone is singing lead then try to put somewhere else that it can pick up the sound. It doesn't need to be in front of the performers. And I would suggest you try to not have it be seen at all. All you need is to capture some of that presence so you can boost it out in the hall a little bit for balance and clarity. Well hope it works out well, but it sounds to me like your your overthinking it. Especially if this is a small theater where the singers can already project. As the sound engineer you don't want to be noticed. If no one notices that you were there and they enjoy the performance then you have done your job. Good luck. -

are these mics for live sound or for recording? you didn't really make it clear. -
