  1. Original Piece: "Flying Battery Zone Act 1" from Sonic & Knuckles Remixer: MarkMoonstone (truemagoo102@yahoo.com) Technical Overview: Piano Arrangement "Assault & Battery" starts off with a fierce i - VI - bvii0 - VI theme, commonly associated with James Bond, that is stated in "Flying Battery Zone". It then hits an augmented chord, transforming into a latin-esque theme that gradually builds throughout the first half of the piece. The main melody is soon embraced, as the style shifts from boogie to latin to a funkier section. It then returns once again to latin, restating another theme from "Flying Battery Zone", before it hits a "musical barrier" and progresses into a darker, mysterious section, with left hand crosses over the right hand ostinato. A few seconds later, another theme from "Flying Battery Zone" is stated, but as with the others, it is not perfect. This development section eventually builds up into a small solo section for each hand, and then returns to the latinized theme, this time ornamented. The piece finally hits a close when the original James Bond-ish theme enters, this time with a latin twist. Message from the composer: I have always been extremely interested in writing remixes for OCRemix, however, I do not possess the technology or knowledge to implement my desires. What I do offer is my composing and musical knowledge to the site. Thank you remixers of OCRemix for being an inspiration to me. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sincerly, Mark Moonstone
  2. This is a remix of the Kefka theme from Final Fantasy 6 (track 1.08 "Kefka.spc" in the FF6 RSN on OCR). It also incorporates a little bit of material from track 1.17 "Wild West", or the Veldt theme. I also feel it's worth noting that the excellent bell melody from 1:12 to 1:22 is actually by Tyler Heath (Unknown), with his permission - it came from his competition piece "Zombies Ate My Dingo". To create the song, I used FLStudio 5 (for putting it together), Garritan Personal Orchestra (for most instruments), Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Gold (for a few other instruments), free ethnic samples from Samplefusion (for percussion), and some assorted soundfonts. A quick background of how this mix came to be: I love Danny Elfman's musical style, and I think it has shown up in some of my other works. It's dramatic and often dark, but at the same time quirky and mischevous. I thought that would fit the character and theme of Kefka well, so I decided to combine the two with my own style. I know this isn't a long mix, especially for this genre, and I'll be the first to admit I'm really new to orchestral arrangement, but I'm very pleased with the final result and I think it's enjoyable. Hopefully, you will too. Thanks in advance! Andrew

  4. Hello! I've got a remix to submit; it can be found here: ReMixer name: M1lesTeg Real name: Eli Badra E-mail address: ebad@gwu.edu REMIX INFO Game: Final Fantasy VI Song: Aria di Mezzo Carattere Comments: I've had a great love for this piece ever since I first "performed" it while playing FF6 way back as a kid. It's beautiful and stirring, even on the SNES. I found that the song was surprisingly underrepresented on OCR, given its popularity. Entering my freshman year of college, I found myself with more free time than I knew what to do with. I finally decided to get up and write a mix. The piece was written entirely with FruityLoops using the SquidFont Orchestral soundfonts and a Harp soundfont, both found on darkesword's web site. My girlfriend, Jill, sang for this piece. We used the Italian lyrics that we were able to find on the internet. Both the Italian and translated lyrics are at the bottom of the message. I owe her for lending her gorgeous voice to the remix. Also a huge thanks to The Prophet of Mephisto, who helped me greatly with balance and such, and LordMaestro, who helped me with the nitpicky equalizing issues. The English translation is a little rough. LYRICS: Italian: Amor mio, caro bene Perche vai lontan da me? ----- English: My love, my dear Why do you go away from me? You promised us a love without end. In moments of sadness And moments of pain I think of you my star, with infinite passion. Why must I have A bond without hope? What do you want me to do? You must tell me Quietly, my love, You responded to my shout Forever and ever Besides me, I will await.
  5. Hello mr DJp, Here is my info. * Contact Info ReMixer Name = Binster Real Name = Martin Binfield Email Address = thabisnit@abandonedsheep.com Website = http://www.abandonedsheep.com userID on forums = 1751 * ReMix Info Game Remixed = Gauntlet 3 Name of Song = not sure, subtune 2 * Additional info = Published by US Gold on the c64, the music was composed by Tim Follin * Link to original track = http://remix.kwed.org/sid.php/1321/Gauntlet_III%20(subtune%202).sid I hope you like it. It was done in Reason2.5 over the course of a long, long time, and this is a yet-further tweaked version of the VGMix release (http://www.vgmix.com/song_view.php?song_id=1941) which will hopefully sound better, features a more prominent growly synth in the second half of the track, and is also extended in length slightly to 2:32. All the best Binster
  6. OCR Judges, Remixer: Big Giant Circles Name: Jimmy Hinson Email: biggiantcircles@gmail.com Site: www.biggiantcircles.com Remix: "Club Showdown", taken from original theme "Godown" from the game Unreal Tournament. This is your typical club/techno mix. Kind of a new thing for me--club, that is. I thought it'd be fun to do, and unlike my last submission, Anthem of a Metroid Hunter, this one was quite a bit easier to work on. I don't listen to a lot of club music, so I kept the structure of this one pretty simple. Just your basic 4-bar progression here. I think I've thrown in plenty of the source tune, along with some new fun lil' melodic riffs of my own to make it fun enough for those who already know the source tune, and also maintain submission standards. I do admit, I'm guilty of extensive intros--just seems to be my thing apparantly. The source doesn't make it's appearance until 1:04 and the song doesn't really bust out into it's full "clubness" until 1:25, but I don't think it's slow enough in coming that the listener gets bored/impatient for the song to "get moving"--I think I made it interesting enough to carry the song to that point. I did my best to not over-compress, like I usually do, and I think the mastering is close enough to accurately be called a club mix (more or less). Anyway, this song makes me want to do one of three things: jump into a game and start fraggin', head to the club, or just tap my foot and sit and waste away in front of the internet. All in all, it's not my greatest musical feat, but it's enjoyable enough that I can be solid and secure enough about listening to it. At least, I don't think I'll look back on it in a year or two and wince to myself thinking "Man, I really sucked when I made this." (And hopefully most people will agree...) Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. ReMix Here: Source tune here: WIP thread here: Once again, this mix brought to you by FL Studio, Kelloggs Pop Tarts, and the letter "M".
  7. CONTACT INFO: ReMixer name: Rexy Real name: Bev Wooff Email: baroness_praxis@yahoo.co.uk OCRemix user ID: 7528 REMIX INFO: Remix title: "Tomorrow's Wake" Game covered: Sonic & Knuckles Individual song covered: Sky Sanctuary Zone --- First of all, I want to thank you for your constructive criticism as applied to my previous submission, "A Weekend Down Under". I have taken what you have said into account and will plan to alter the song in the future, however with the original Reason file being anywhere but my University campus right now, I can't go back to edit it just yet. Rest assured I will get something on the line and at least give Crash Bandicoot some OCR recognition for once. That aside, I have a fresh contribution for you guys to see into. The foundations for this piano arrangement of the "Sky Sanctuary Zone" theme from Sonic & Knuckles came from my early experiences through my first semester in my new student life; although I managed to find it somewhat enjoyable, I've always had the feeling of missing my family and companions from back home. Eventually I managed to put what I've learnt from piano playing tuition and came round to putting the arrangement together, mainly influenced from a lot of heart-warming animation (The Snowman, anyone?) and some reflective piano work from years gone by (Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" being a firm example). I seriously need another filehost other than VGMix. o_O; Again I apologise for the tag set, although suggestions on future file storage are welcome alongside your song criticism. That said, I leave this message by saying thanks in advance for taking your time going through this file. Once more I am satisfied with how the arrangement came out, and whichever result comes out of your analysis, well done for doing your job. Peace out, -Rexy-
  8. email sub file Alien Hominid - Here They Come.mp3 - djp I am a new remixer. I go by Mattimeo and the attached file is my song. It is a remix of the new game Alien Hominid for the PS2/Gamecube. 10. Remixer Name: Vurez Remix Info: Remix Title: Grana Vallis Turbo Style Name of Game(s): Ys VI The Ark of Napishtim Name of Individual Song(s): Mountain Zone It's a little depressing to see a lack of Ys arrangements on this site, considering it's pretty much a cult classic series known especially for it's soundtracks. There is only one posted on ocremix at this time. Anyway, I decided to remix Moutain Zone from Ys VI (the latest in the series). Some might have heard my other Ys remixes that I posted on vgmix a while back. This one is somewhat similar to those in that I was trying to capture the feeling and sound of the Ys games that were released for the Turbo Grafx CD. Ever since Ryo Yonemitsu (the arranger of the Ys games that were released on the Turbo) left the game music world, the Ys games have suffered in the music production quality area. Falcom's latest soundtrack still doesn't compare to what Yonemitsu was able to do over a decade ago. The original Mountain Zone track just plays through once and then loops forever. I think the tune is nice but the quality of the instruments (especially the leads) are lacking. Anyway, I gave it a full makeover, used powerful synth hits similar the Ys games released on the Turbo, added some variation and some solos. This song might be a little bit different than what most people are used to hearing on this site. I hope you guys understand what I was trying to do here. I uploaded the original, if you want to hear it when evaluating -
  11. Here goes: I'm trying to make up for the crap I've submitted in the past by submitting something that's actually good enough to be worth listening to. It's a guitar arrangement of "Peaceful Days" from CHrono Trigger, inspired by kLuTz's version of the same theme. 12. Email sub file Chrono_Trigger_Utopian_Discord_OC_ReMix.mp3 - djp First of all, sorry I e-mailed the song to you. My only other option was giving you a link to my Soundclick page, but... 1) The Soundclick version doesn't have the proper tags, and 2) You'd have to get a Soundclick account to download the file. Anyway, here's the vital info for my submission: Name: Arglebargle (my name on your forums) Song: Utopian Discord Game: Chrono Trigger This is my first attempt at a video game remix, and I chose to re-arrange the Zeal theme from Chrono Trigger. Yeah I know, there's only like, 500 Zeal remixes, so I'm not exactly breaking any new ground. I'm pretty sure I have all the proper tags in the mp3 file, and I think I used the proper filename for the piece, so you should be good to go. This seems like a much more complicated submission process than VGMix, so if I did anything wrong, let me know! You seem to have fairly discerning standards at OC Remix, if the amount of rejected songs are anything to judge by, so I'm very interested in seeing how my song is received. Well, I guess that's it. Adam

Name of game remix: Final Fantasy 7 Name of song: Cosmo Canyon Theme Blurb: This is a little different from my usual arrangements, due to the combination of instruments. After Nanaki (presumably asexual?) had offspring, I believe a creature of such intellect would also have a deep culture and heritage. Imagine a grand ascension taking place ontop of cosmo canyon. That was the image which I based my inspiration on while working on this piece. All comments welcome. 15. email sub file Terramex - Distorted View.mp3 - djp Me: Numbermind Real name: Brendan Bradley number2mind@hotmail.com www.numbermind.com MP3: Filename: Terramex - Distorted View Name of game: Terramex (AKA "Cosmic Relief" in the USA) Original Theme Composer: Ben Daglish Game Designers: Teque Software System: Commodore 64 Comments: One of the few games I remember from way back, Terramex is probably as obscure as games get. The game was unique in that it was a sidescroller that urged you to use weird objects to progress (i.e. using a vacuum cleaner to fly around and reach cloud platforms). I couldn't for the life of me understand what the game was about, but there were so many interesting ways to die-- like climbing into a cannon after you put in too much gunpowder-- so I guess I made up for it. I composed most of this from memory, and I think I may have missed a few notes, but I'm OK with that. I definitely went for the harder, more driving "orchestral techno-ish" sound that most C64 songs lend themselves to, and I took liberties in making the chords more complex. I'm most satisfied with the middle part, where all the instruments come together and... well, I guess you'll have to listen to it. As a final note: this took about 16 hours to do. Thanks. Brendan Bradley
  16. Here is what I have to say: Hey djpretzel and other OCReMix judges-- I have a lot of respect for you guys for maintaining the site. You can call me Stephenox, as that's my artist name. I'm a 15-year-old sophomore in high school. I used to always listen to video game music (and I still do sometimes), but nowadays I mostly listen to the latest trance. Anyway, I've been going to OCRemix for years now, and although I don't listen to every remix there, I listen to many from games I like, one of which is Morrowind, and there aren't enough Morrowind remixes! So, I decided to make my own. My apologies if you are bored by this trance style I've adopted. The melody is a bit simple (but I thought it fitting) after being led in by an intro I made by recording myself (through linein), playing layers separately on my Alesis 6.1 keyboard. The rest was sequenced in FL Studio with some VST plugins and some assorted samples, but the lead melody was also recorded through linein from my keyboard. This is the first VGM remix I've really made. Feedback is very appreciated-- I always want to improve! Thank you for both your listening time and for your reading time. - Stephenox The quick info: ReMixer name - Stephenox Real name - Stephen W. Email address - themacro@gmail.com Website - http://www.paxasiana.com Name of game remixed - Morrowind Name of individual song remixed - Title theme I tried to tag the mp3 as appropriate.

  18. Hi there again! Well, this is a remix i did quite a while ago from the game metal gear solid 2. Game:MGS2 (2001) Remix name: 'Veteran' Original song: 'Main Theme' Composers 'Harry Gregson-Williams, Norihiko Hibino' Remixer Name: Ellywu Link: (Sorry about using VGmix, its just my soundclick account is being very awkward at the moment, and VGmix is one of the only sites i know of that i can upload to. (damn you university proxy!) Ok, some info about the track. It was done in FLstudio, as per usual, using Edirol Orchestral and various VSTi's and samples. I was attempting a kind of hans zimmer feel to the whole song, and be warned, its not a happy song! Keep up the good work, and thanks for the judging of Shadows of the Empire.
  19. Hi, DJP (or whichever current judging panel member gets this). This is my first submission in over two years--mainly because I wasn't really happy with any of my mixes up to that point. In the interim, I've greatly improved my mastering and recording skills, with the result that I've been proud of my last 5-10 pieces of music. This remix is an update of a SD tribute I made about 10 years ago with Screamtracker. I like the new version a lot more. -steve
  20. Updated link: - djp Yo, Well, first off, here are the vitals Remixer's Name: LordMaestro E-mail Adress: heydude6383@hotmail.com Real Name: Ross Kmet Remix Info: Song Title: The Forest Taught Me WHAT!? Original Game: Secret Of Mana Song Remixed: What the Forest Taught Me Company: Squaresoft Composer: Hiroki Kikuta Well, anyways, I guess I should say what this was made with. I use FLStudio 4/5, free VSTi's (mainly superwave P8 and synth 1), and free samples found off the internet. I've been making music for a little while now, and I've been around the site for awhile. Not too good at write-ups. Just enjoy the remix. Unfortunately, my web host renames the file as "assetfile.mp3". Just know that that is the right file. Sorry for the inconvinience. Enjoy.
