Actually, the main takeaway from this is that Crulex has a lot of reviews.

I wish that were true, but sadly my computer decided to die after the first week of the month and I couldn't get the forums here to let me post off my PS3 or 3DS. Really bummed me out because I was actually excited about this. Only reason I'm on here today is because of a borrowed laptop from a family member visiting for the holidays. Hopefully I can get a new computer soon so I can actually get back into reviewing for the rest of the new year. Until then, I guess a few reviews before the end of the year will be the best I can do.

  2. Lovely, fellas. Really, that's all I can really think of. Some piano, some whistling windwork, some guitar, and you've set the stage for a beautiful ReMix that begins easily enough, but then continues to build and evolve as the mix goes on and get some awesome percussion and glitchy switch-ups going. I think bain_rex said it best, this is perfect sailing music in my mind, and I'll be gladly listening to this for quite some time.

  3. Undertale really caught my mind on fire with it's gameplay, music and story much like Shovel Knight did last year, so I'm thrilled to hear OA and Stevo take on some of the soundtrack's best themes (even though most of the OST is pretty "the best themes", :P ). The originals were both either epic or touching, but putting them together in a pop rock track that both ReMixer's really excel at was fun to listen to. The production was top notch and I really enjoyed the arrangement that allowed these themes to form a sweet song. For those who have played the game, this is an awesome picture of part of the game that really hammers in the feels, and for those who haven't played it yet, you'd really benefit from checking it out right after downloading this mix.

  4. The drum sequence was pretty cool for the kind of beat that complements the piano. I feel like my only gripe for this mix writing-wise is that I wasn't completely down with the speeding up of the actual melody, as it sounded a little too fast and off-beat with the rest of the arrangement. It's a good, early ReMix on the theme, though, and it definitely managed to maintain interest by keeping segments fresh. Not bad.

  5. Ahhh, dudes, this is gorgeous! Merrigan's voice is astonishing and backed with prophetik's Celtic sounding orchestra, it all wraps up to a pretty sweet present that hits me in the heart. I actually had to listen to this a couple times just to even focus on it, because the song got me daydreaming and ended before I knew it. Definitely adding this to my music list, this was wonderful!

  6. Whoa, this hits me pretty hard on a nostalgic level, with the whole computer-tech-rock arrangement going on. So much energy, it's hard not to get pumped up with this music and the cool little switch-ups were a treat. The use of the voice clips were great, and being a fan of storms, female vocals and Vincent Price, having all those sounds in the mix really made me smile. This is the kind of get up and go ReMix I need in the morning. Great work man!

  7. So... 2 questions:

1: Why, if applicable, don't you comment on new mixposts on OCR?

2: How do you suggest the number of reviews is brought back up again?

    1. My lack of ReViews lately can be attributed to my new job, which had for the past two months drained my time and energy. Adding to that, I've been kinda burning myself out on video game mixes and needed a little break so that I could come back to it and give decent reviews again. But I'm just about to the point where I think I can slowly get back into it, so I may start again soon.

    2. I've personally always enjoyed the little "December is Reviews month" scenarios we had, like fighting Larry with reviews FF style. I know it has several pros and cons and it doesn't really apply beyond that one month and all, but those were always fun ways to get people to actually listen to ReMixes and reviewing. Even without prizes, a cool story or idea could be incentive enough to sway people sitting on the reviewing fence.

  8. Nothing like a good piece of musical wall chicken to get you going. Funky, fresh, and full of good beats, this is a great mix of Vampire Killer. Fantastic disco bits, and that violin section was ace. Hell of a ReMix, and for something that has had many ReMixes, it's great to still hear new and well-done performances like this coming through the woodwork.

  9. I love that line at that beginning of the track, as it has a lot of starting energy, but it seems to linger just a bit too long until things finally kick off and release at about 1:10. Very 90's computer sci-fi sounding to me, which takes me back to some of my earliest game memories on a computer, so while not the same system or even game, it was cool to hear something in that vein again. The section that followed into it's second and third minute was definitely awesome and had a nice balance to the beginning and the ending of the ReMix. Only thing I didn't care for was the siren transition, but that's mostly on me and I would have loved it more if tweaked in speed or tone just a little differently. So yeah, great balance, nice arrangement and solid enough production. Super debut, dude, a great mix indeed!

  10. Shovel Knight became my favorite game of the last five years easily last year when it came out and I've haven't been able to get enough yet. Can't wait for Plague of Shadows to come out soon. As for this ReMix, fantastic and emotionally beautiful is all I can think of. Shield Knight's theme was always a heartfelt jerker when put into context of the story, and this brings out the best parts of that emotion. The solemn piano, the powerful strings, and the calls to the main theme make this a terrific mix. Everyone talking about making an album out of this track or wanting to hear even more ReMixers tackle this soundtrack, count me in that camp.

  11. Musically, I have to say that I enjoyed the glitchy high-speed EDM beat of this mix that works extremely well with the vox vocals, and as far as the rapping, that was pretty nicely done as well, fitting the instrumentation to a "T". Somehow being able to slip in the word "bestiality" into a mix and make it not horrible and fit with the game's hero is good for some credit. Nothing to gripe about from me, solid mix.

  12. Wow, Rebecca, this is gorgeous and truly impressive work! For being a medley of many different themes, you've got them hooked together cohesively and it never stumbles between sources. That's awesome. Picturing all the different forests as the mix goes on is wonderful and calming, and if the only nitpick is the chime use, then there's really nothing to nitpick on this one. Amazing OCR debut piece, Rebecca. This is a hot ReMix.
