  1. Been listening to a lot of lately.I hadn't really listened to them since I was 16 cause they just seemed weird past a few good songs, but they're actually one of the better rock bands of last decade. IMO.
  2. I didn't really like the demo that much, but I might try picking this up. I've never been a big fan of Final Fantasy except for 10, but this game seems like it could be pretty cool. Will probably have to check out a few reviews to convince me, or I'll just keep up with this thread and see what everyone else thinks.
  3. Yeah, that might work for some but for me it's best to just do it. The only real reason I start a song is because I'm inspired to begin with, but I've dropped a lot of songs in the past half way through just because I couldn't figure out the "perfect" thing to do for a bridge or something like that. I've learned that sometimes it's good to just keep going at it and a lot of times the song ends up being pretty dang good because of my efforts to finish it.
  4. I put more emphasis on writing first. Generally sound choices don't bother me as much, as I usually pick from a preset bank anyways. I used to produce the song a whole lot as I went, but that actually end up slowing more down more than helping me. I also started making deadlines for myself. I guess it's my right-brain preference but I tend to have trouble finishing songs in reasonable time (because I like for "inspiration" to hit, which is a dumb excuse), so it helps to make schedules of when to do what so I make sure I'm actually making music. Also it helps me to not be lazy.
  5. Already have my deadline schedule wrote out for this song, and I actually already finished most of what I wanted to do today yesterday. This song is really fun to do. I hope y'all will like jazz-electro-rock-whatever the heck you might call this when it's done.
  6. I think the thread is fine as is. This type of debate is enjoyable.
  7. So far things are going awesome and I hope the same goes for you! It's gonna be a little tricky fitting in Spring Yard but it'll all work well!
  8. Wasn't Christopher Tin nominated for this too? And won? Or it might have just been for one song so maybe not. Either way, I can't disagree more with this. Yes it was. A lot of stuff wasn't memorable for it's catchy tunes, mind you, but the beautiful thing about music is that it doesn't always have to be a catchy j-pop melody or a few good sounding chords to stick with you. It's music. There are absolutely so many things you can do with it and you'll always find people who love it. I still use the original World of Warcraft example as an argument for this. It's all opinion of course, but that soundtrack, with pieces like , tops out as one of my favorite video game soundtracks ever.It does the only thing that video game music ever should have to do, fit in with the video game. I hate the argument that the old console limitations use forced old composers to be more "creative". Ok, with melody and chord writing I guess they had to make catchy tunes because trying anything else would make no sense behind most of those old games. But limitations at the end of the day are limitations. I'm glad composers got to grow into stuff like Super Metroid, Halo, and WoW. Ironically more hardware capabilities actually allows the composers to be more creative, because they pretty much take whatever is in their head and put it in the game. Saying that, there is still a place for catchy, "memorable" music now. Just as a completely obscure example, but it's on my iTunes playing right now so why not, this japanese visual novels music: It's has a nice melody yes, just like an old game would, but the most important thing it does besides reaching the "catchiness quota" that people put on game music now-a-days is that it actually fits behind the video game. That's what matters at the end of the day.
  9. I've already started putting together all my sounds for the song. I'm going to try to really go electronic twenty one pilots style 'cause I've been listening to them a lot lately. This is gonna be really fun! Hopefully this opiate won't mess with my composition at all.
  10. I'm not 100%, but I swear sometime recently that there was a re-release of Relics of the Chozo with MP3 files and better tagging. If it's true all I'm able to find is the original torrent on main page for the album. Is there anyway to get this MP3 download now?
  11. Does anybody know what kind of synthesizer would be best for emulating the delayed synth that starts off this song? it sounds kind of lo-fi, but not really..
  12. Thank you my friend! I'll try and put out a kick-ass song this week!

  13. I don't see Chemical Plant from Sonic 2. Will that be cool? Cause that would be cool.
  14. I'll jump in, I just got a computer and this would be a good way to start composing music again. Let me find a song really quick. Just claiming a spot (if it's not claimed yet) edit: Also, I just had surgery so I got all the time in the world for next week. Yay
  15. I wanna see it too! If not here then I'll do what LT is and see if Barnes and Noble will have it. That'd be super fresh.
  16. I actually prefer iPhone 5 earphones quite a bit. Simple and sound nice. And I love the cord on those things.
  17. This is a pretty neat song and y'all should listen to it. I've gotten better at piano humanization since this song, but my favorite part of the song is probably how the opening piano notes come into the background during the main chorus of the song. I didn't really notice how well it worked until listening to the song a few months after it was finished. Big thanks to Flexstyle on this song for real. This track has influenced my newer stuff in a very good way. Especially in messing with deeper and more intricate ambience. Hope you all like, this though. Also, first on Starcraft 2! Yay!
  18. Remixing obscure music is fun because it fills up OCR's game database fast and it could also get some other people interested in what you like, which is very cool. I try to do the same thing, except with games that are only obscure if you're not japanese. It's fun.
  19. Especially with all the new stuff on FL Studio 11, that should be plenty enough (along with a few soundfonts and Synth1) for you start out with. Also go ahead and grab some 3xosc presets from offline. There's a great one that has about 500 presets in one package and that is where I get most my sounds. I think you should just start out with that kind of setup to help you get familiar with making music. If you try hard enough, youcan even make a lot of killer stuff with just free sounds. My philosophy is if you can't make good music with something minimal then a more expensive setup won't help you out too much (except for it to sound better, in most cases). But you will want to start buying good sounds at some point, of course. If you have the money to spend. And of course if you play an instrument then figure out how to record that asap. It helps a lot to learn recording ASAP since it's a completely different ballpark than sequencing (IMO).
  20. I love this a lot. Especially towards the end with the arpeggios. The writeup pretty much says it all, this is great and definetly hits my top 5 from halc. Also <3 Okami.
  21. Well I think I've finally completed my 2012 new years resolutions so now it's time to make more 2 years later. Musically -get a computer so I can actually start making music again -find the tools and means to be able to sing and rap in a produced song -sing and rap in a song -become good enough to arrange and play a piano piece that would pass OCR. Even if I don't get to record it. -start listening to OCR music consistently again (which is very hard to do without the computer) Personal -become conversational in Japanese -find a Japanese princess and marry her -eat a hamburger and frosted orange shake at the varsity -go to some kind of gaming or anime convention and get a picture with some cool cosplayer. Edit: yay the fifth one is probably gonna happen now. Getting a tablet for Christmas !
  22. I like the VGM composer spotlight idea. OCR has a huge database on info on composers, and I think different videos covering some big players in the video game music industry would not only get there names even more recognized (because some people just like the game music, and don't really know the composers), it would also be informative and fun.
  23. Once I get a computer I'd be happy to do a remix of madoka magica portable. If it ends ip being that broad. It has a really good soundtrack.
  24. So I tried searching this thread but couldn't find it. How does OCR feel about an ai no uta remix? That Japanese pikmin song. I've only played the English version of 1, and never played 2 or 3 or the Japanese version of 1, but would it's appearance in Brawl be sufficient enough for remixing? I've always recognized it as a Pikmin song, but since I'm not the hugest Pikmin fan I don't know if it would be considered part of the soundtrack.
