  1. I tried the whole MIDI import thing - sometimes it's helpful when there's a complex arppegio or pattern that I know I want in the song note for note, but for everything else it's better to transcribe by ear now. It helps to make more personalized arrangements.
  2. That unfortunately didn't help at all. Though I do think that the wrapper loaded a bit faster, the sample itself still takes about 3 minutes. I'll probably try compressing the samples like you did, that seems like it could help a lot since it's specifically the samples that are having trouble loading correctly. If anything I might try FL Studio 10 to see if it works any better. The only reason I upgraded to 11 was because it had some amazing samples loaded into it. If you have any other ideas though I can try them out though. thanks for all the help so far! This is why I hate upgrading anything by the way, even forcibly. If it works it shouldn't have to be fixed. D:
  3. what my quote just saidi got it off the website. that's all i know EDIT: OOOOH, I know what you mean now my bad. No I'm not using that one. Should I?
  4. The RAM issue isn't it for sure because the guy who had a problem on image-line had like 12gb of RAM. He was having the same problems. I'm not sure about processor speed (I have a faster processor than my older computer so it doesn't seem like that'd be it), but when you say loading uncompressed samples do you mean that I'd have to compress my samples to begin with? I installed this sample right off the native instruments website so I'm not sure if there was any other steps. It's about 2.4gb altogether (but that's about 5 different samples of Upright piano) If that's not it then I'm going to have to believe it's Windows 8 wonkiness and that it's something on image-lines end. edit: and I'm using the latest version of FL Studio 11, and the 64 bit version of Kontakt 5. I didn't see anything about a compatability mode version.
  5. I found a topic like this in the image-line forums, but nobody there seems to have an idea of what's going on so I want to try here. Back on my old labtop, which was about 4 years old, with worst specs than this brand new HP I recently bought, Kontakt would load into FL Studio just fine. It was a little buggier than all other VST's but it still did what I wanted it to do and didn't any major problems. That was FL Studio 10, now on FL Studio 11 I'm having a lot of trouble with Kontakt 5 Player loading up. The VST loads fine (though a lot slower than it used to), but when I try loading an instrument (Upright Piano in this case, since that's all I've used it for), it takes about 3-4 minutes to actually load the instrument, and the VST itself runs super laggy with the instrument loaded. Not to mention that I can't expect the instrument to load on the startup of the project, so I have to reapply the VST each time I load the project. The rest of the project runs fine of course, it's just Kontakt 5 that is screwy. I've been dealing with it for now until I finish my current project but it's causing a lot of problems now, the biggest one is crashing my project for no reason. I know some of you use Kontakt a lot and I'm wondering if there's anything you do to make Kontakt run better or maybe if I'm just doing something wrong in general. (Maybe I installed Kontakt wrong? Or something?) I really don't believe anything hardware could be the issue unless things haven't been made fully compatible with Windows 8 yet (which is software anyways).
  6. I think this would be great for OCR, right along with a mobile version of the forums. If you could do something like this for iPhone eventually it would be great.. An OCR app would probably be one my top used apps because it's just so fun to search and listen to different OCReMixes. And it'd be a lot easier on an app than on the site.
  7. I just haven't taken the time to listen to the other mixes yet. I will though.
  8. Been listening to a lot of lately.I hadn't really listened to them since I was 16 cause they just seemed weird past a few good songs, but they're actually one of the better rock bands of last decade. IMO.
  9. I didn't really like the demo that much, but I might try picking this up. I've never been a big fan of Final Fantasy except for 10, but this game seems like it could be pretty cool. Will probably have to check out a few reviews to convince me, or I'll just keep up with this thread and see what everyone else thinks.
  10. Yeah, that might work for some but for me it's best to just do it. The only real reason I start a song is because I'm inspired to begin with, but I've dropped a lot of songs in the past half way through just because I couldn't figure out the "perfect" thing to do for a bridge or something like that. I've learned that sometimes it's good to just keep going at it and a lot of times the song ends up being pretty dang good because of my efforts to finish it.
  11. I put more emphasis on writing first. Generally sound choices don't bother me as much, as I usually pick from a preset bank anyways. I used to produce the song a whole lot as I went, but that actually end up slowing more down more than helping me. I also started making deadlines for myself. I guess it's my right-brain preference but I tend to have trouble finishing songs in reasonable time (because I like for "inspiration" to hit, which is a dumb excuse), so it helps to make schedules of when to do what so I make sure I'm actually making music. Also it helps me to not be lazy.
  12. Already have my deadline schedule wrote out for this song, and I actually already finished most of what I wanted to do today yesterday. This song is really fun to do. I hope y'all will like jazz-electro-rock-whatever the heck you might call this when it's done.
  13. I think the thread is fine as is. This type of debate is enjoyable.
  14. So far things are going awesome and I hope the same goes for you! It's gonna be a little tricky fitting in Spring Yard but it'll all work well!
  15. Wasn't Christopher Tin nominated for this too? And won? Or it might have just been for one song so maybe not. Either way, I can't disagree more with this. Yes it was. A lot of stuff wasn't memorable for it's catchy tunes, mind you, but the beautiful thing about music is that it doesn't always have to be a catchy j-pop melody or a few good sounding chords to stick with you. It's music. There are absolutely so many things you can do with it and you'll always find people who love it. I still use the original World of Warcraft example as an argument for this. It's all opinion of course, but that soundtrack, with pieces like , tops out as one of my favorite video game soundtracks ever.It does the only thing that video game music ever should have to do, fit in with the video game. I hate the argument that the old console limitations use forced old composers to be more "creative". Ok, with melody and chord writing I guess they had to make catchy tunes because trying anything else would make no sense behind most of those old games. But limitations at the end of the day are limitations. I'm glad composers got to grow into stuff like Super Metroid, Halo, and WoW. Ironically more hardware capabilities actually allows the composers to be more creative, because they pretty much take whatever is in their head and put it in the game. Saying that, there is still a place for catchy, "memorable" music now. Just as a completely obscure example, but it's on my iTunes playing right now so why not, this japanese visual novels music: It's has a nice melody yes, just like an old game would, but the most important thing it does besides reaching the "catchiness quota" that people put on game music now-a-days is that it actually fits behind the video game. That's what matters at the end of the day.
  16. I've already started putting together all my sounds for the song. I'm going to try to really go electronic twenty one pilots style 'cause I've been listening to them a lot lately. This is gonna be really fun! Hopefully this opiate won't mess with my composition at all.
  17. I'm not 100%, but I swear sometime recently that there was a re-release of Relics of the Chozo with MP3 files and better tagging. If it's true all I'm able to find is the original torrent on main page for the album. Is there anyway to get this MP3 download now?
  18. Does anybody know what kind of synthesizer would be best for emulating the delayed synth that starts off this song? it sounds kind of lo-fi, but not really..
  19. Thank you my friend! I'll try and put out a kick-ass song this week!

  20. I don't see Chemical Plant from Sonic 2. Will that be cool? Cause that would be cool.
  21. I'll jump in, I just got a computer and this would be a good way to start composing music again. Let me find a song really quick. Just claiming a spot (if it's not claimed yet) edit: Also, I just had surgery so I got all the time in the world for next week. Yay
  22. I wanna see it too! If not here then I'll do what LT is and see if Barnes and Noble will have it. That'd be super fresh.
  23. I actually prefer iPhone 5 earphones quite a bit. Simple and sound nice. And I love the cord on those things.
  24. This is a pretty neat song and y'all should listen to it. I've gotten better at piano humanization since this song, but my favorite part of the song is probably how the opening piano notes come into the background during the main chorus of the song. I didn't really notice how well it worked until listening to the song a few months after it was finished. Big thanks to Flexstyle on this song for real. This track has influenced my newer stuff in a very good way. Especially in messing with deeper and more intricate ambience. Hope you all like, this though. Also, first on Starcraft 2! Yay!
