  1. I agree there could probably be another type of competition going on here, but most people are on board for the SZRC right now so it doesn't seem like a good time for anything like that. Also just saying the OP is pretty silly lookin'.
  2. I'm only using earbuds at the moment but those opening guitar like samples don't sound very pleasant at all. Also, humanization is going to be a big thing with this one. You might be a person that worries about all that afterwords, but do make sure those samples sound real - especially the percussion seeing as this is more of a percussion song. Also make sure everything is sort of spaced out with reverb well, that's usually a big step to making things sound pretty real. Also those drums being panned to the right can be kind of distracting, you might considering centering those more or balancing it out with something in the left ear.
  3. Jeeze, just went through a whole bunch from of stuff today. Pretty much finished it, just have to go back and add things so it makes sense. It's only a little above 3 minutes but this things goes a lot of places (compared to what I'm used to) It's pretty cool. Hopefully it'll be in tomorrow. edit: i don't think TGH usually post on the boards that much anymore so he wouldn't post about it here.. He works on music pretty fast though so if he forgot then that's another issue. That doesn't seem likely.
  4. Right where I want to be. Wanna see if I can finish to the end today, and do all the polishing and stuff tomorrow. So I don't even have to spend Saturday doing anything. It's been really fun with this one, except for some software issues coming up.
  5. I spent 2 minutes writing up a post in this thread and then 2 hours polishing a song. It seems your post is tounge in cheek but I really don't see a problem with posting in a discussion forum. I don't even feel like people are philosophizing, just answering the OP's question. By this logic why do I even come to OCR. I should just spend all my time behind my DAW and nothing else. But I like to come here. I agree with this a lot. That's how most people's processes (at least how I view the term) should evolve to begin with. Figuring out what you already have and not trying to buy the next big mic, amp, or synthesizer or DAW thinking it's magically going to make your music better somehow. It seems like most people who do this just waste money and waste time when they could actually be trying to do better. I feel like I've gotten better with working FL Studio because I can make very full and good sounding songs with less and less each time and not strangling each sounds to death. It's how professionals usually do it anyways. I feel like I keep saying this though so I'm gonna stop posting that now.
  6. I tried the whole MIDI import thing - sometimes it's helpful when there's a complex arppegio or pattern that I know I want in the song note for note, but for everything else it's better to transcribe by ear now. It helps to make more personalized arrangements.
  7. That unfortunately didn't help at all. Though I do think that the wrapper loaded a bit faster, the sample itself still takes about 3 minutes. I'll probably try compressing the samples like you did, that seems like it could help a lot since it's specifically the samples that are having trouble loading correctly. If anything I might try FL Studio 10 to see if it works any better. The only reason I upgraded to 11 was because it had some amazing samples loaded into it. If you have any other ideas though I can try them out though. thanks for all the help so far! This is why I hate upgrading anything by the way, even forcibly. If it works it shouldn't have to be fixed. D:
  8. what my quote just saidi got it off the website. that's all i know EDIT: OOOOH, I know what you mean now my bad. No I'm not using that one. Should I?
  9. The RAM issue isn't it for sure because the guy who had a problem on image-line had like 12gb of RAM. He was having the same problems. I'm not sure about processor speed (I have a faster processor than my older computer so it doesn't seem like that'd be it), but when you say loading uncompressed samples do you mean that I'd have to compress my samples to begin with? I installed this sample right off the native instruments website so I'm not sure if there was any other steps. It's about 2.4gb altogether (but that's about 5 different samples of Upright piano) If that's not it then I'm going to have to believe it's Windows 8 wonkiness and that it's something on image-lines end. edit: and I'm using the latest version of FL Studio 11, and the 64 bit version of Kontakt 5. I didn't see anything about a compatability mode version.
  10. I found a topic like this in the image-line forums, but nobody there seems to have an idea of what's going on so I want to try here. Back on my old labtop, which was about 4 years old, with worst specs than this brand new HP I recently bought, Kontakt would load into FL Studio just fine. It was a little buggier than all other VST's but it still did what I wanted it to do and didn't any major problems. That was FL Studio 10, now on FL Studio 11 I'm having a lot of trouble with Kontakt 5 Player loading up. The VST loads fine (though a lot slower than it used to), but when I try loading an instrument (Upright Piano in this case, since that's all I've used it for), it takes about 3-4 minutes to actually load the instrument, and the VST itself runs super laggy with the instrument loaded. Not to mention that I can't expect the instrument to load on the startup of the project, so I have to reapply the VST each time I load the project. The rest of the project runs fine of course, it's just Kontakt 5 that is screwy. I've been dealing with it for now until I finish my current project but it's causing a lot of problems now, the biggest one is crashing my project for no reason. I know some of you use Kontakt a lot and I'm wondering if there's anything you do to make Kontakt run better or maybe if I'm just doing something wrong in general. (Maybe I installed Kontakt wrong? Or something?) I really don't believe anything hardware could be the issue unless things haven't been made fully compatible with Windows 8 yet (which is software anyways).
  11. I think this would be great for OCR, right along with a mobile version of the forums. If you could do something like this for iPhone eventually it would be great.. An OCR app would probably be one my top used apps because it's just so fun to search and listen to different OCReMixes. And it'd be a lot easier on an app than on the site.
  12. I just haven't taken the time to listen to the other mixes yet. I will though.
  13. Been listening to a lot of lately.I hadn't really listened to them since I was 16 cause they just seemed weird past a few good songs, but they're actually one of the better rock bands of last decade. IMO.
  14. I didn't really like the demo that much, but I might try picking this up. I've never been a big fan of Final Fantasy except for 10, but this game seems like it could be pretty cool. Will probably have to check out a few reviews to convince me, or I'll just keep up with this thread and see what everyone else thinks.
  15. Yeah, that might work for some but for me it's best to just do it. The only real reason I start a song is because I'm inspired to begin with, but I've dropped a lot of songs in the past half way through just because I couldn't figure out the "perfect" thing to do for a bridge or something like that. I've learned that sometimes it's good to just keep going at it and a lot of times the song ends up being pretty dang good because of my efforts to finish it.
  16. I put more emphasis on writing first. Generally sound choices don't bother me as much, as I usually pick from a preset bank anyways. I used to produce the song a whole lot as I went, but that actually end up slowing more down more than helping me. I also started making deadlines for myself. I guess it's my right-brain preference but I tend to have trouble finishing songs in reasonable time (because I like for "inspiration" to hit, which is a dumb excuse), so it helps to make schedules of when to do what so I make sure I'm actually making music. Also it helps me to not be lazy.
  17. Already have my deadline schedule wrote out for this song, and I actually already finished most of what I wanted to do today yesterday. This song is really fun to do. I hope y'all will like jazz-electro-rock-whatever the heck you might call this when it's done.
  18. I think the thread is fine as is. This type of debate is enjoyable.
  19. So far things are going awesome and I hope the same goes for you! It's gonna be a little tricky fitting in Spring Yard but it'll all work well!
  20. Wasn't Christopher Tin nominated for this too? And won? Or it might have just been for one song so maybe not. Either way, I can't disagree more with this. Yes it was. A lot of stuff wasn't memorable for it's catchy tunes, mind you, but the beautiful thing about music is that it doesn't always have to be a catchy j-pop melody or a few good sounding chords to stick with you. It's music. There are absolutely so many things you can do with it and you'll always find people who love it. I still use the original World of Warcraft example as an argument for this. It's all opinion of course, but that soundtrack, with pieces like , tops out as one of my favorite video game soundtracks ever.It does the only thing that video game music ever should have to do, fit in with the video game. I hate the argument that the old console limitations use forced old composers to be more "creative". Ok, with melody and chord writing I guess they had to make catchy tunes because trying anything else would make no sense behind most of those old games. But limitations at the end of the day are limitations. I'm glad composers got to grow into stuff like Super Metroid, Halo, and WoW. Ironically more hardware capabilities actually allows the composers to be more creative, because they pretty much take whatever is in their head and put it in the game. Saying that, there is still a place for catchy, "memorable" music now. Just as a completely obscure example, but it's on my iTunes playing right now so why not, this japanese visual novels music: It's has a nice melody yes, just like an old game would, but the most important thing it does besides reaching the "catchiness quota" that people put on game music now-a-days is that it actually fits behind the video game. That's what matters at the end of the day.
