  1. This is beautiful. Some stiff competition to be sure, but she definitely belongs in the mix. Voted.
  2. Kate Covington (katethegreat19) apparently has some VG cred now, too, although she really became known better through YouTube than OCR. Also, don't forget about Josh Whelchel.
  3. Here's the thread for last year's compo. Links are in the first post.
  4. The World Ends with You. I know basically nothing about it, but I see it in LOTS of top portable games lists. Dragon Quest IX is pretty standard DQ fare. I personally thought 4 was more engaging, although I played it on the NES - one of my favorite games ever. I wouldn't be surprised if the DS port added those unnecessary animations and such that detract from the experience a bit.
  5. Thanks for this thread. "Hymn of Aveh" is one of my most played remixes. Seeing this, I spent a good couple hours getting reacquainted with her videos. Congrats on all the success, Kate, and keep up the good work!
  6. Yeah, I think my title was too long. Copy the download link and add the truncated "3" and you should be good. Or, even easier, just click the linkage:
  7. So, not entirely true. They got us back on the 29th, which was enough time to at least get a WIP up. I'm really happy with the beginning, and the rest is more or less undeveloped ideas that I rendered before I fleshed them out. I definitely plan on finishing this one. I really like it where it's headed. And, you know, I kinda promised and all.
  8. Finally got a chance to watch. Chernagbogue, that Metroid video was phenomenal, especially the second half where there's a little more action to match the the music. Also, really cool to see such a difference in your work since the KH vid. I was really looking forward to setzertrancer's videos, too, but the videos all appear to have been removed.
  9. Finally got a chance to give this a listen. Really nice chillout album, and I'm impressed with the subtle changes in mood between pieces while you maintain a consistent theme. I'll echo what's been said about variation, although what's there holds up just fine - I actually enjoyed it more on a second listen. Aside from the other input here, I think the greatest room for growth is picking/creating your sounds. A little more richness and diversity in your synths could go a long way. That would definitely push you further in terms of mixing and mastering as well. Great stuff, man. Purchased!
  10. Long story short, making the deadline is pretty much out for me. :/ The main issue is that our training exercise which was supposed to get me home on the 26th has been extended to Sept 4th. It also doesn't help that my laptop is fried to the point where it cam barely run my DAW, I don't have headphones, amd I'm lucky to get 10 kb/s, so even if I can finish, uploading will still be a problem. I do plan to finish no later than mid-September, so if there's a way to officially submit it after the deadline, that would be awesome. If not, I'll be sure to get it in the WIP forum and this thread. I hope everyone else who accepted the challenge is coming along well, amd I look forward to listening to all the entries.
  11. First version was posted a year ago....any chance you're still planning on working with this any more?
  12. Um, no. I am. I made my request over a year ago: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=30121
  13. I have found Debut to be pretty exceptional, especially for a free download, although it can be a resource hog if you're struggling on that end. I dunno if this is considered on topic or not, but has anyone heard of the Tim Tang Test? I got through the first 50 levels a few years ago. Some of them have changed since, and I haven't given it another shot, but it's an excellent, mind-bending devourer of time.
  14. Super Mario Bros. - finished in 5:55. I have also seen "minus world" and jumped the flagpole (3-3). The Legend of Zelda - I can consistently get through in one life, no rings. Still trying to trim my time up a bit. Fastest is around 75 minutes. (A Link to the Past, too, but I can't remember if I've done it without bottling fairies.) Tetris - 225 lines starting from level 1. 120lines starting from 19. Final Fantasy - defeated Kary with a single white mage. (I started with a full party, but the white mage was left alone to finish off about 200 HP.) Legacy of the Wizard - beat the game without the shield and never playing as Xemn/Warrior/Father. Tales of Symphonia - earned the following titles in the same playthrough (not a new game +): Brave Soul, Gung Ho, Eternal Apprentice, Berserker, and I Hate Gels! (Anyone who can add Friendship First to that is my idol.) Also, not really that impressive, but hilarious: I have played an entire undefeated season of Tecmo Bowl running the same hand-off to Bo Jackson every play. Kept stats, too, but I have no idea what I did with them.
  15. I thought it was going to be this. In other words, I'm with Malaki-LEGEND.sys and Secret Agent Man.
  16. Seconded. Great theme. Of course, and Chrono's are pretty phenomenal as well.A couple more favorites: Presea - Tales of Symphonia Kratos - Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
  17. Gypsy's Journey - Dragon Warrior IV I adored this track when I first heard it, and it's still good now. And the 8-bit version is a better arrangement than the later releases. Also, the battle theme for Chapter 4, which I include because it's still particular to Mara and Nara, was equally amazing.
  18. I read this and thought, this could totally be my suggestion... :headasplode: Yeah, Cyril, this game is totally under the radar (plus the gameplay is as good as the music) and it makes me sad. Can't wait to hear what you cook up. Also I am excite.
  19. Happy birthday, birthday dude. P.S. @The Damned: I think you're in the clear. That WAS cobaltstarfire... Pretty sure Stevo and Beth's new hit single has people living the dream: http://compo.thasauce.net/files/Total_Titrage_-_If_I_Were_A_Dinosaur(DDC10).mp3
  20. Finally got a chance to spend a little time on this...lots more to go, I know. I didn't touch the arrangement at all, but I plan on fleshing that out a lot, and looking again at some parts with wonky timing. Really, all I was going for today was filling out the space a bit and thickening up the synths. I especially like the extra layer on the bass. I also threw a little reverb on the drums...although I'll probably end up replacing those samples as well. Here's the update: I agree with pretty much everything you said, Neblix. Still to do: 1) Add additional layers (harmonic and/or counterpoint) throughout the arrangement. 2) Revisit sections with wonky timing issues and rearrange the glitchy section. 3) Complete overhaul of the final section when Knight Man's theme returns. (I plan to scrap this and do something mind-blowing.) 4) ?????? 5) Profit! If you've heard both versions, is there anything I changed that should be left as it was? Thanks for listening, and special thanks to anyone who drops in with some feedback. Oh, I'm also open to changing the title. If you've got an idea, lemme know.
  21. Lazy Sunday Compo returns tomorrow at 5:00 PM PDT/8:00 PM EDT. If you don't join us, the bad guys win.
  22. I'll be out of commission for most of August...not stopping me though. Requests sent, too. Also, it's hard to gauge interest when sign-ups are in private, so I don't know if it's necessary (or appropriate, as it's not technically a competition), but might this get more visibility in the compo area?
  23. I started doing something very similar a while back. Fortunately, I heard about the re-tagging before I got too far. Kudos for getting it done, though. Also, I love the "Dude You Gotta Sort This S..." Folder. Looks familiar...
  24. That was awesome. Wily Level 1 was REALLY well done. I also loved the quick back-to-back nods to Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.
