  1. I actually managed to do that a couple months ago. I assume you're referring to the level where that Energy Orb is following you? Yeah, that is nasty. If you nail a turn just right you actually gain a little bit of ground. After several hundred times, you get a feel for whether you executed a single turn well enough. If you do, pause, save state, and continue. Still took a few hours to get through. I think I actually had more trouble racing the rat to the bomb at the bottom of the level before. Frustrating is an understatement. At least the game can be fun, though. Hydlide, on the other hand, in my experience, cannot.
  2. Last year was so successful that it's always going to start at least half-way through the month now.
  3. We beat someone?! Honestly, being at the bottom, I haven't been dying for these results. But the close grouping of points (especially the races for 4th and 8th place) really show how tight the competition was. And I still have a LOT of these tracks on playlists that I pull up regularly. Congrats to everyone, especially those Block Rockmen Beats for pulling off the upset in only the way that staff can. (Huzzah for nubes.)
  4. How's that Burst/Flash Man mix coming? :P

  5. I don't think I'm going to be able to make it to the listening party. Hopefully this bump will prevent others from facing the same fate. Also, the links in the above post are to a .org site. The correct link should be http://areciboradio.com/
  6. Finally got a chance to finish this and did so this morning. Hadn't even looked in this thread yet because I wanted to avoid any and all spoilers. Absolutely loved this. I was mildly bothered by the same things that everyone else has brought up (too much unnecessary text - be it at the bazaar or finding items I'm already familiar with or obvious observations by Fi, forced clues that I didn't need/want, and just a touch too much flying, and the same boss battle three times,) but the things they did right more than made up for it. I could post plenty about what I enjoyed, but it would mostly just be reiterating what's already been said. A couple points, though: What really made this stand out from other entries in the series was the story -- not necessarily the plot itself, which was fairly solid if formulaic, but the WAY it was told. The characters had far more nuance and personality than I remember ever seeing before. There were so many little touches that made the narrative engrossing. For example, I knew I was going to love immersing myself in this world with the little note after I got the sailcloth: "(It smells nice, too!)" I was also blown away by the localization, and I'm surprised no one's mentioned it. Regardless of any compensatory reasons for the art style they chose, the art direction was gorgeous. There were several times, especially in some of the cut scenes that I just really appreciated the visual feast. As for the music, very few standout memorable tracks, but most of it did a great job to support the environment. The cut scenes again were notable, as they made the most use of the orchestra. I wasn't humming this track the next day, , but I thought it added a ton to the scene.I think everything else has been covered above. Anyway, fantastic game. A little jealous of you if you're still looking forward to it.
  7. Thanks Yeah, Nonamer and I had a low-key evening of Frozen Yogurt, trivia, and Tetris. It was good times. I'm planning on getting into NYC area early afternoon tomorrow. I was once a theater junkie. Not as much now, but I still definitely want to see SOMETHING. Other than that, if we can pull a group of OCR folks together, that'd be fantastic.
  8. Well, I got my 3DS the day it came out, but didn't have any games to play online. THAT HAS CHANGED. Picked up Mario Kart 7. Only a few cups in, all 50cc, so I really don't have much of a feel for it yet. But I should be around to play sporadically for the next couple weeks. Also, ditto pretty much everything ocre said on Tales of the Abyss (although I did finish the PS2 version). Pretty straight port of an excellent game. Oh, and my Code: 1418-6758-9268. I've added everyone.
  9. So we decided to meet at Dupont Circle tonight 8:30. Meeting in front of the CVS. If anyone else wants to show up, cool. Probably a good idea to post if you plan on coming, just so we don't accidentally miss you.
  10. I'm having me another road trip, and I've always got time to meet good OCR people. I've been in Kansas City the last couple days, and hung out with Phonetic Hero and ShinnyMetal. Cool cats, both. The next couple weeks will find me in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Minneapolis, and Omaha. Anyone in those areas can PM me or respond in the thread if you'd like to make something happen. I'll be driving every mile of I-35 between DFW and the Twin Cities, too, and I usually pad my time so I'd have plenty of time to stop for a bite to eat or something. I really enjoyed hanging out in DC/Baltimore back in February; hopefully, some new faces make add some unexpected goodness to this trip, too. --------------------------- Original Post for posterity's sake: I'm on a two week vacation and have several stops planned, and am always happy to hang out with fellow VG and VGM appreciaters. My stops include DC, Pittsburgh vicinity (I have friends in Latrobe), Williamsburg, VA, and Raleigh (possibly NYC, too, but that might be a bit much). I have a bit of flexibility and not a whole lot planned, so if anyone wants to meet up for drinks, games, whatever, reply here, shoot me a PM, or check my other contact info, and I'll see if I can't make it work.
  11. You still live with your mom suckaaaaaaaaaa Also - can't wait to listen. Sounds like a lot of people think pretty highly of their work, and, here, that's rarely a bad thing. Also, mad props to Mr. L, who single-handedly came through for Energy Tank. Between [insert lame excuse here] and [insert moderately legitimate excuse here], I was unable to contribute, but he came through with some major progress on the tail end of the week.
  12. Finally got a chance to listen to this. Looks like it's time to reload the PayPal.
  13. Ok. Seriously, this was one of the first mixes I came across, and I come back to it frequently. And this update is very much appreciated. The solos and percussion, in particular, come through so much more clearly. Really nice work.
  14. We never had a computer at home; I was raised on console gaming and will always feel more comfortable with a controller in my hands and a TV in my face. But I also support this. As for input, I don't have any of my own, but I did just come across this post in an old thread: quoted below for the lazy Looks like someone needs to get out and do some recruiting.
  15. Somehow, I never looked at the tracklist until today I have been talking up and clamoring for a Legacy of the Wizard mix forever! Actually, I originally created an account specifically to make that request (which was not without results.) ....and now. A completed track just falls into my lap? I have no words. Haven't even gotten to download it yet, but was too excited. Can't wait to listen to this, and really, the whole line-up looks amazing.
  16. I mentioned "Into the Golden Sunset" in Larry's thread. Just highlighting it because it's one of them solo piano things you were talking about.
  17. This is a great idea. For those suggesting or looking for other tasty ales, malts, and spirits, don't forget about this thread: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=31856
  18. Seriously, a friend of mine introduced me to Reason a few weeks before I found OCR. That, in turn, was mere weeks before 'The Life and Death of the Mario Brothers' debuted. One of my early discoveries, and still a favorite. I know Lemon's work primarily from DS's Mega-compos, and his entries are probably the most consistently the kind of tracks that find regular playtime on all my lists. In fact, I was just listening to "Swarm of Voxels", and I have just one question: are you Tim Follin? Also, happy birthday to ya boths.
  19. If someone's looking for a track to work with, I'd love to see get some love. I've got a bit on my plate right now, and won't likely get a chance to even try it.
  20. Gario and Rozovian are probably the two names that sold me on the concept of OCR as a community. Giving so much time, feedback, and encouragement to so many would-be mixers is just awesome. Making it official is the least they deserve. Nice jorb, guys.
  21. How about a physical copy, signed by all remixers involved, hand-delivered by Bahamut, as [artist of your choice] provides a live rendition of your new, personal theme song? But, yeah. A February release sounds good, too.
  22. Two weeks, eh? I might be able to WIP something up for Awakening. Put me down, if you please.
  23. BogusRed was looking for Zelda mixes to walk down the isle to. I think her own 'Into the Golden Sunset' was a clear winner. Also, someday, when I get married, it will be to a girl who can perform 'Shine Tonight' with me at the reception.
