  1. Dude, can I hire the guitarist? The technical skill is pretty slick. I'm not a big fan of the synthesis in this one, though. That's gotta go.
  2. I'm not a huge rock fan; guitars always just sound like there's a dude with long hair holdin' them. This is no exception. However, despite Axelay's inherent coolness, this remix is probably how the game designers originally meant this song to sound. For real. And the violins and organ are a fantastic touch. My major complaint is that it covers the boss theme on that level too. In my book, that's a huge no-no. Why? I dunno. I don't think it's fair to cover and remix two songs into one. Other than that: very professional.
  3. Am I in an elevator? This is a very interesting take on the original but, somehow manages to retain a small degree of the feeling. The smooth lounge-style is just a little too... loungy... for me. It's too relaxing and cheesy. I do like the remix and it's got some cool variations. But, not enough, really.
  4. Actraiser is such a great game and this is another great remix by McVaffe. Solid sequencing, tonal balance, and superior mastering. It doesn't vary a whole lot from the original but, that's ok by me. Thumbs up, my man; I wouldn't change a thing.
  5. It's cool that so much could be extruded from such a skimpy original. The trancy aspect was handled very well. The minimal thing in the middle didn't quite work tonally. But, hey, it's danceable and the piano at the end is purty. Overall an interesting interpretation.
  6. I'm not sure why Castlevania turns so easily into rock-ballad... This one is solid, of course. Though, it's a bit too much like the original. The end has some interesting organ and guitar wailin' but, there should be more throughout. And where's the vocals? I wanna hear some guy screaming in there to fill it out.
  7. Star is really quite amazing when it comes to his classical concoctions. I really can't complain about this one. The epic nature of the brass and drum track really emphasize the militarisitic nature of the game. Definately worth loadin' into the iPod.
  8. Argh. If I had known clapping was so annoying I would have cut my own hands off. Dance is overdone. And this song isn't even danceable. There is no depth or contrast whatsoever. And halfway through just sounds like a big electronic wrestling match followed by the song starting over. Then there's some very poor use of a filter and weird high-hat noises. Why was this submitted? It's not even worth listening to.
  9. Good arrangement and tone programming. I really like this remix; very funky and fun. /me tries to think of criticism... I'll get back to ya on that.
  10. Take that trashcan! Dance has been done. And Shimomura deserves better than this. 1. The guitar programming is cool... the Casio Concertmate shizzy isn't; it's damn annoying. Get rid of it! 2. It's too repetitive. I will probably never listen to it again. No offense. 3. The instruments used do not work together. They all seem to be vying for space.
  11. Hmmmm.... a quality tune: decent recording, composition and playthrough. It certainly does rock. Although a fresh perspective on a classic, I think it misses the emotion of the original. Needs more vocal.
  12. I'm a sucker for MegaMan remixes since MegaMan is the.... man... I do really enjoy listening to this tune but, to criticize: 1. There isn't much depth. The sound field is not filled and thus not as exciting as it could be. There are some strings but, not until the very end. 2. It sounds more Hawaiian than anything. I suppose Hawaii is west... 3. Dance has been done. Change the beat up or shorten the song's length. 4. There hasn't much changed from the original.
  13. Finely done, sir. I especially like the drum work; short gate times and weird reverbs. This is definately one of my favorite songs of Nobuo's and this remix captures the mechanical-spirit very well. Thanks.
  14. It's about time somebody posted a tune from FF5.. I really like this one. Somebody knows what they're doing.
