  1. I don't know if this is a legitimate issue or not, but the track feels pretty empty to me. I also don't think that the first minute of the song connects very well to what comes after it. I wish I could be more helpful than that, but I'm afraid that's the extent of my powers at the moment. Aside from that, I'm actually kinda digging this. I do advise you take my critique with a mountain of salt since I'm not very experienced myself. Regardless, I hope something I said helps, even if only a little.
  2. I'd say this is more pleasant than weird, at least to me. Not a bad rendition, I must say. My only problem with this track is that big build up you have leading up to the sound bite of the astronaut or whoever. While this sort of minute long emptiness works well to establish what comes afterwards, the fact that the mix is only about 2 minutes long kinda lessens the impact I think it should have. I feel the song ought to be a bit longer and do more stuff, but that's just my complete newb opinion. Well, those are my thoughts. Leave them or take them with a heavy dose of salt.
  3. I'm just going to agree with everyone who said compos. I'm a lazy bastard, but now that I've committed to my first round of the PRC, I feel much more motivated to get something done. I am aware that I'm not exactly answering the OPs questions, but I feel that this is worth mentioning at least once. The best way to learn is to practice. Like, all the time. You can read all the books and watch all the YouTube tutorials you want, but it won't mean diddly if you don't apply any of this knowledge yourself on a regular basis. Don't be like me and do absolutely nothing for years. Practice, even if you have to force yourself to do so. So yeah, join compos and practice a lot. That's my advice in a nutshell.
  4. I'm not entirely sure how many months I've had your remixing guide, but it wasn't until just now that I realized that I was supposed to give you feedback. Well, better late than never. As far as I'm concerned, this guide is actually pretty helpful. I have no complaints at the moment since I can't really remember the content and I'm not petty enough to come back three to six days from now and say exactly what I think is wrong with the guide. So yeah, kudos, brah. I apologize for necro-posting. You may now proceed with the throwing of rotting tomatoes.
  5. Hmmm... Oh, why not? I know I can't possibly compete with anyone else who may be entering, so all I have to do is redefine my conditions for victory to "submit a freakin' entry and not be stupid about it" and I'm good to go. Now comes the hard part of winning against myself.
  6. Off the top of my head, Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga and Mario & Luigi Partners in Time. To be fair, I have a horrible track record with video games and I very rarely bother to beat them all the way through. With the above games, I've gotten to the final boss (or at least what I believe is the final boss), but never completed the game. On an unrelated (or perhaps semi-related) note, I'm a little confused as to what this thread is for. The title implies to me that we are to talk about games that we almost didn't play at all, but instead the OP asks about which games we've almost beaten. I apologize if I'm being rude, but perhaps this thread is mislabeled just a tad?
  7. Caught the noon showing earlier today and I'm very happy I did. It's amazing how many different ways Vin Diesel can say "I am Groot" and that it didn't wear on my nerves like I might expect. Correct me if my information is wrong, but is anyone else surprised that Bradley Cooper voiced Rocket in this movie? Granted, I haven't seen any of his other movies, but "sarcastic gun-happy space raccoon" doesn't exactly sound like a role I'd see Cooper portraying. I'd go on, but I don't wanna spoil anything (or at least anything of actual importance).
  8. Are there any obvious downsides to these headphones or other such things I should take into consideration before I decide I want to purchase these? I'm considering getting the SR-60i seeing as they apparently don't cost a whole lot, but I want to try and have my bases covered. The only AKG K271 I've seen online is the K271 MKII and I think it's going online for 200 bucks. I could probably afford something that costs $130 if I saved my money, but I don't want to go anywhere near $200 headphones right now if I can help it.
  9. After my past two purchases of crappy headphones, it kind of dawned on me that I might not be able to really get a decent idea of what my tracks sound like if I don't have a decent pair of headphones. While I am reluctant to spend a lot of money on headphones, I don't know what the typical price range of the mid-priced headphones is. I also don't know what sort of headphones I should be looking for, but I have seen the ATH-M40 headphones mentioned a couple of times while browsing the threads here. I don't want to spend a ton of money on headphones, just enough to get me a decent pair. Ideally, my budget would be under $100, but I worry that that might be a bit unrealistic. If anyone has any suggestions and/or advice, I'd be happy to hear it.
  10. Do you mean ?Rather interesting request, if that is the song you meant. I won't say much since I really don't know what I'm talking about here, but I do think it's worthy of consideration.
  11. Oh god, this. It's especially potent in Explorers because of how the ending drags it's feet and because of the music that the game plays during those cutscenes. is definitely one of the saddest things to ever be spawned by a Pokemon game, though that may be because I first heard it in the game.
  12. I guess you're right about the hidden stuff, Halcyon. I mean, your reasoning works for me. Still, I should at least try to incorporate a little more strategy into my game. Movesets and items are the easiest ways I know how to do this, so I've got a little experimenting to do when I start training my vast collection of boxed mons.
  13. I'm considering rebuilding my team and breeding an Oshawott when I get a Ditto onto the file (unless I already have a Ditto, which I highly doubt). Seems like a better solution to me than restarting the game, but that's just my opinion. I'm probably terrible at raising my pokemon. I'm decent at battling NPCs, but Movesets, items and type match-ups are the only areas in which I have any knowledge. I'm clueless when it comes to stuff like IVs or Effort Values, and even with the stuff I do know, I'm just now beginning to get a handle on how it all works (unless we're talking type match-ups. I'm pretty good at those.).
  14. I'd beaten the E4 in White 2 a while back and have kind of just been screwing around with other games since then. I'm starting to get kind of bored and I figure I might as well start getting into the whole online thing before X and Y get here, so here's my friend code for White 2. 3053 5393 2815. I guess I'll add everyone who has their code posted here while I'm at it. Now, off to explore the rest of Unova and train my pokemon.
  15. My preferred starters are as follows: Gen I - Squirtle, Gen II - Cyndaquil, Gen III - Mudkip, Gen IV - Turtwig, and Gen V - Oshawott. For Gen VI, I'm currently thinking Chespin. I like Fennekin, but I share the sentiment that having it turn into a fighting type upon evolution would be utter nonsense. I think I'm more excited for the fact that this is going to be on the 3DS than I am for the new mons. We had too many pokemon in Generation IV and after the massive flood in Gen V, I kind of lost track. I think we have well over 600 at the moment and it's damn near impossible to say what the official number of new mons will be without any official word from the developers regarding the subject. I suspect the number of new mons will be closer in size to Gen III or Gen IV due to the inclusion of older pokemon in the trailer, but only time will tell.
  16. I like this, although I agree with snuffles. Try using your creative mojo to spice this sucker up.
  17. I don't have any idea what's going on in this mix. The only things that I could hear clearly were that lead and some of the percussion.
  18. I think this is pretty nifty. I am curious about that fade out ending though. It seems like an odd choice for this rendition, but I concede that I might be wrong due to my newbish ignorance.
  19. I'm don't think this is something I need to worry about right now, but I'm just curious what the general consensus is on FL Studio's built-in sampler. I don't have any real plans to use any samples at the moment (well, samples for anything other than drums, I mean), but I just thought I'd ask now before I decide to make those plans in the distant future (not sure if I'm being obtuse or if I'm expecting the unexpected). Also, should I put this inquiry into the original post? I don't think it's that important, but if it is, let me know.
  20. To be brutally honest, I'm just accepting what everyone is saying. I'm not sure whether it's because I don't know anything, because I'm gullible or perhaps both. The only thing that I am sure of is that I need to stop screwing around and learn this mess for myself instead of having seven different people telling me how to do it. I'll probably work off of some combination of the advice given so far to get me started, especially what Yoozer said about learning the scales. There is so much that I need to learn, and I guess the scales might be the best place for me to start (I only understand C Major, and that's probably a loose understanding at best). I think my curiosity is satisfied for now. Thanks for all the input, but feel free to continue chiming in if you have something to say.
  21. Better late than never, DarK PurPLe. Your input is very much appreciated. I'd like to see your break down if you are willing to give it. I'm very interested in what you have to say there.
  22. I'm only 2 gym badges into White 2 and I've pretty much decided on my team for the rest of the game. I have an odd habit of mostly picking from pokemon that are found fairly early in the game, so most, if not all, of my team is already on hand. This may not be the best way to build a team, but it's worked for me so far. I may put more consideration into what pokemon go into my team and what moves they learn when I do another run of a different game, but I'll stick to what I know for now.
  23. Not very pleased with the games they've announced thus far, but that's probably because most of them are sequels to games I never played before. I'm still gonna buy this system, but I'm gonna wait for the library to fill up a bit before I do.
