Final Fantasy VII (7) DS: Is it possible?
Ramaniscence replied to djdexcat's topic in General Discussion
So I've recently started working in Computer Animation and Maya and yadda yadda yadda. I can tell you right now that as far as models go, FF7 probably doesn't us anything over 1000 polys or so...if even that...and THAT'S in battle scenes. As far as walking around and shit that's a huge LOL. Those things are like MAYBE 200 polys. I'd say even saying THAT is pushing it. I'd go as far as to say the game, sans-the world map and battle enviroments, was completely lacking textures. It only uses shaders except for the eyes, brows, and mouth (this is assuming PS was capable of using shaders, I really don't know. If it can't, it could just us 1px colored textures.) Whatever textures it DOES have are no bigger than 32px. The background images for most of the levels are statics images and, my guess, are about 720x480 IF EVEN THAT. They could even be stretched to twice the size from 360x240. So what does that say for FF7? It says that if you removed all the music or downgraded it from CD quality to something substantially less, and turned the CG cutscenes into FMV cutscenes, I'm willing to bet you could get that thing under 200MBs. So is it possible? Well nothing's really impossible. Is it HARD? Well, depends on how you look at it, but no not really. Will it HAPPEN? PRETTY doubtful...at least anytime soon. But what does this tell us is a BETTER candidate for DS port? MGS1 -
Seriously. For a few weeks after my birthday i became OBSESSED with ice cream cake. I'd buy little ones for around $7 and eat them non-stop.

Not just for me. My art instructor usually plays music while we draw (for 8 hours ) and she said if we bring in some music, she'll play it (as long as it's not obnoxious). I'm making a CD of ReMixes to bring in, and I need some help, because I'll be damned if I'm THAT familiar with ALL the fricken remixes in this community. I'm gonna throw some other stuff in there, but I'm trying to go with stuff that I can ALMOST pass of as NOT a game remix, and I'm trying to stick to the genre of the stuff we usually listen to, which can very at times but is usually pretty straight forward. Some of the stuff we've listened to is: Tool, Massive Attack, Imogen Heap, some Fight Club soundtrack etc, etc. THOUGH we have on occassion listened to: Michael Jackson (Greatest Hits), Queen (Greatest Hits), the Doors (Greatest Hits), we've listen to some underground hip-hop and other things, but this kind of thing isn't TOO common. That's why I'm trying to appeal to what my class NORMALLY listens to. And while I'm trying to make it more appealing to people who don't usually listen to this kind of thing, I'm ALSO trying to not be TOO OBSCURE with the game choice so that people who DO know the songs WILL recognize them and so I have a better chance of someone actually recognizing them. What I have so far is: Pretty dead-on tracks: -Marble Heart (by akumajobelmonte on RTS and VGMix) -Love Hurts -Green Amnesia -FFX: How Much Longer (by pothocket) -Birdcussion "Pushing It" tracks: -Enchant Esper -Terra in Black -Trial in Concert -Subterranean Opus -Calamitous Judgement -Arab Painting -600AD in Piano "Tool cool to pass up" tracks: -Linear Groove -Sonikelektronic -Eon & DJ Siamey - Toxic Caves -Triforce Majeure Footnote: With all these new forums and rules, I'm not quite sure where this thread should go, so I'm goin' with my gut on this one. Mods feel free to do with it what you wish.

The real consequences of blurring video games and real life..
Ramaniscence replied to Steben's topic in General Discussion
Not so much from video games as it is computers in general and Photoshop/Maya, but I was in my art class the other day, and I erased something too far, and in my head I was thinking CTRL+Z. -
I've heard good things about DarkSpear...seriously considering. Or at least re-rolling there. I like how 90% of the BE males are Sephiroth, and if you go to that forest South of their village you can hear the cries of the planet =P

Soul Calibur was a sequal to Soul Edge, and a good sequal at that. Soul Calibur 2 was an improvement on SC adding a lot of much-needed new moves, better strategies and timing, characters and levels. Lots of good stuff came out of SC2... ...then came SC3. Some stuff was good, some stuff was bad, a lot of stuff was broke as hell. New graphics? Nice. New elements? Cool. New characters? Ehh. New moves? ...bleh. Apparently Soul Calibur III arcade fixed a lot of that, but I've only seen a machine once in my life (Monday, actually) and I didn't have any change to play it =\.

The original images loads up before the stylish CSS shoves it out of the way, and posts the new one. That's probably because OCR's servers load faster than ThaSauce's (where the images are hosted). For me right now NOTHING shows up except edit buttons. Maybe a few cache refreshes or a Firefox restart'll clear it up, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a change in the forum code that made the forum unusable with the dark style. Edit: Next order of business? Moved thread icons =P

The Unofficial OCReMix Album Art Competition Well what's the deal? Glad you asked! The question has come up time and time again: Does anyone have any OCReMix album art they use for their MP3 player? Often people post alittle something they made themselves in paint, or by cropping the logo, and sometimes people slap something in there on the spot. Now I know there's a metric ton of really talent artists here on the site, and it's time we all sat down and actually made some nice stuff. The Idea! The idea is to make an album art image for OCR. Something between 1000x1000 - 300x300, in PNG format. Who is eligible?! Everyone is free to enter* and can submit as many entries as they like, as long as they are recieved before the deadline. The Tools! You can use any which what tools to make your album art. Corel Paint, Photoshop, MS Paint, Paintshop Pro, Maya, I really don't care, as long as it falls under resolution guidelines. Two things that'll help you out a lot: Photoshop users: You can download a PSD with a high-resolution vector of the logo, along with a few other controller options (such as Dual Shock, Genesis, & Zapper) [Filesize = approx 15MBs] (if anyone can/wants to convert this file for use in PSP too, that'd be great.) The font used in the OverClocked ReMix logo is call 'Iomonoid" and can be downloaded for FREE @ dafont.com What should my album art have? Anything. It can really have anything you want on it (that's not blaintantly offense). I just include the logo and the font for anyone who wants to use them. You are in no way bound to including either, but remember you ARE be judged by your peers and that including or excluding such things could effect your chance of winning. Your album art can be hand drawn, painted, digitally recreated, photo-manipulated, photography, abstract, pixelart, minimalistic, aqua, aero, I reallyyy don't care. As long as it's an original piece of work and has "OverClocked ReMix", or something similiar, somewhere on it. Submissions, Deadline, Voting, ETC I'm setting the deadline for this competition to VALENTINE'S DAY. That means I want submissions in by Febuary 14, 2007 00:00 EST. Submissions will be sent via email to sgtrama [at] thasauce.net, with your albumart ATTACHED TO THE EMAIl, and any information I'll need to know to actually be able to identify you. The voting period will last exactly 2 weeks after the deadline, and will be decided by popular vote via PMing me here. Guidelines for this thread There a few things I'd like to ask people do consider when posting in this thread out of common courtesy: You are free, and encouraged, to post your WIPs here, but I'd appreciate it that if your image is more than 500x500 pixels, if you would use a thumbnail image. When quoting someone else's post that contains an image, PLEASE change the IMG tag to a URL tag. It takes a whole 3 seconds DA FUT0R You are encouraged to share your source images (PSDs, etc) so that other can use your version of the logos, etc, for other things in the future like wallpapers, winamp skins, forum skins, blah dee blah. At some point I would like an organize a sort of OverClocked ReMix Artist's Guild where we can compair and share images and references so we can all make all kinds of cool OCR stuff with easy. *Except Eon

So, I've been working on the reference image, even I can't duplicate the OCR Logo like DJP did, but the mask SHOULD help. I was able to make THIS with relative ease using it: It still needs a lot of cleaning, and I'm gonna work on that throughout the day, and MAYBE do a little something else by the time the weekend is over... Edit: I'll do more controllers lat0r. ALSO: if someone could get me a high rez scan of their OCR shirt, that'd be GREAT.

Bad? No known high-res version of the logo exists AS FAR AS I AM AWARE. If it does, it's never been made availible to me. Good? If you just want a flat logo, I can do a vector of it HUGE like. (we're talkin' 2000x2000) and then I can work that into something cooler...

New VGmix 3 info! Thoughts on their new approach...
Ramaniscence replied to SwordBreaker's topic in General Discussion
The first thing I said about VGMix 3 was "Man, those sound like some good ideas" but immediately I said "But I said the same thing about VGMix 2." Yea, VGMix 2 was good in theory, so was VGMix 1, and so is VGMix 3. I'm excited about it, but I'll believe everything works as good as it's proposed WHEN I see it. Best feature VGMix has?: Good coding. The fact that they can add, edit, and change anything with general ease is gonna help out BIGTIME, and hopefully keeps VGMix up for a good while this time =P. -

Last update before MAGFest. The style has been updated on userStyles. I replaced the Quote/etc/etc buttons because I got too tired of looking at the normal ones, but be aware they're subject to change and likely WILL BE changed latter. Anyway EVERYONE BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THASAUCE LIVE MAGFEST COVERAGE @ STICKAM. </plug>

Soundtracks to games you've never played
Ramaniscence replied to wintermadness's topic in General Discussion
I bought Chrono Cross used from GameStop and didn't get around to playing it right away. One day I decided I wanted to start it, popped it in, and got to that very first cutscene where the door opens or whatever and it froze. I absolutely can not get past that point and my CD looks FINE so I much just be reallllyyyy unlucky.
