The opening is somber and always draws me in. The slight percussion in the back is what makes the mood without you realising it. The imitation section makes me happy every time I hear it. That, and the remix has always reminded me of James Bond. Not a bad thing. 3:07, when the horn comes in... things get awesome! The percussion picks up shortly after which is perfect. 5:00 onwards always gives the perfect outro to the piece. Slowing it down accordingly. This piece could easily be a film score. It's lush and beautiful.

OCR02295 - Sonic the Hedgehog (GEN & SMS) "Hogtied"
Tuberz McGee replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The opening organ is immediately frighteningly good. The drums kick in and everything takes a turn for the worse as I recall my childhood. I remember how many times I died in this game. Oh god there were many. The lead guitars are insanely good. The production is slightly off, which I think is great! It gives that feeling of nostalgia for these battles. You had to think on your feet. 1:43 brings my favourite part. The lead is so catchy. 2:50 is the star of the show however. If I ever go back to those boss battles again, that's what I'll hear. Either way. It's a great mix... I just wish it didn't bring back memories of me sucking. -
The opening chord just shows the deep conviction of the piece. The lead parts are filled with soul, giving a feeling of loss and deep sadness to an almost angry extent. At about 0:55 things get a bit more technical and the piece goes head first into a slump of depression. I won't lie. I've listened to this piece when I've felt angry at the world. It helps a tonne. 2:39 brings with it a deeper sense of anger and sadness. I can't help but picture a man sitting over his piano playing this while the tears drip from his eyes. Maybe I'm just over imaginative. Haha Either way, great piece to disregard the police to.

OCR01324 - Sonic & Knuckles "Tomorrow's Wake"
Tuberz McGee replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
As a big fan of Sky Sanctuary Zone. This warms my heart. The piano line opening it up gives the image of floating and has a very playful fun nature. Though at 0:50 it starts getting serious. This always reminds me of playing the stage. I always go nuts at the landscape and part way through the stage realise that I could have fallen and died a lot. I love piano remixes. This is easily one of my favourites too. 2:53 just makes me feel happy for my life. I love it sooo much. It's incredible. And I must truly thank Rexy for making such an inspirational track. It still inspires me today. I'd like to think there's a little bit of Rexy in my sound. -

Rexy. I've ALWAYS enjoyed your music. Even if people don't say it. If you listen in to peoples' music, you might just hear something. Sometimes it's only slightly there. But there is an influence there. I know that your music has influenced me. But enough of me trying to inflate peoples' egos. REVIEWS http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?p=830597#post830597 http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?p=830599#post830599 http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?p=830602#post830602 http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?p=830603#post830603 http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?p=830604#post830604 That's another five. I'll do more later today. I just have band matters to attend to. -
OCR02238 - Final Fantasy IV "Path of Deception"
Tuberz McGee replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
So, where do I start? Beautifully mixed. From beginning to end you are captivated by the melodies. The delay on the vocals(?) in the back makes the melodic spectrum all the more full. I truly enjoy listening to this mix. It was always a more obscure source tune to me. bLiNd did an EXCELLENT job with this source. And when 2:56 comes around, even I can't stop bobbing my head. -
OCR02240 - Sonic the Hedgehog "Final Progression"
Tuberz McGee replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I'm not big on trance. But this works just fine. This is great, it builds up rather well. At 1:13 is has the breakdown for contrast. I enjoy it when there are breakdowns earlier rather than later. After that it brings in the melody, which has always been one of my favourite Sonic melodies. Jewbeii really brings it to life with the other synths that come in a bit later. Sampling the sound of a defeated enemy was ingenious and so is this mix. -
OCR02241 - Final Fantasy VIII "SeeK"
Tuberz McGee replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
As a big fan of FF VIII, this mix feels great to me. The guitars are balls out pure aggression. It's not like the sort of thing you'd get from... say... Level 99. Parts of this seem unrehearsed and quite raw. Which is perfect to add to the aggressive sound. The synths at parts are great and not overused too. It's the breakdown from the guitars that adds contrast. I really enjoy this mix. Have ever since it was released. 'Nuff said. Plus 2:30 DAT SECTION -
OCR02242 - Final Fantasy XIII "Blue Skies"
Tuberz McGee replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I'm a huge fan of Final Fantasy XIII's soundtrack. This is a daring interpretation of Will To Fight. This is one of my favourite tracks on the OST, and now it has an OCR to help it be more awesome. Those vocals are great, much more warm than the original. And of course the instrumentation is different. Come 1:30, I instantly fell in love. It's incredible. Nothing more. Nothing less. END OF STO- But I haven't talked about the section starting at 2:13. And why? Because it's great. We don't need to talk about it. We all know it's good. -
The melody line in the beginning is haunting. With the scenic effects in the back it's even more so. The distorted drums in the back add to the melodic scenery even more. Once it all goes high energy it's like you're being chased around a labyrinth by a demon. ... Or I've just got an overactive imagination. Heh Either way, this ReMix is frightening... and that's exactly why I love it.

Merry Christmas everybody. I got exactly what I wanted. Tonnes of Chocolate. Guitar World Magazine. New Mic Stand. Using the new mic stand, because I'm recording drums for my band's album today! Hope you all had a happy holiday with your families.

Not a problem. I guess that crosses one artist off my "fanboy-ism" run. Seriously. I've noticed some of you guys are so humble that you think way less of yourselves. But, hell, half you guys inspired me to do this. To get involved in this community. Heck, to even start doing VG musics on the internet and not just a band. I LOVE YOU GUYS -

If it's anything like Touhou, his attack patterns will include bullet storm hell with a side of colourful seizures. I'll do some more tomorrow. I'll pull a fanboy and choose three or four mixers I love and just review all their stuff. Haha -

OCR02216 - Pokémon Red Version "Shades of Red"
Tuberz McGee replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Ah memories. The chiptune feel is perfect for this. It's arranged enough to vary from the source material. But it FEELS the same. It feels like I'm waking up, I'm ten years old, and I'm about to start my Pokémon journey. Well, it reminds me more of sitting in my room with my Gameboy in hand... but whatever. This was the blast of nostalgia that has taken me back the most from any ReMix. I sometimes just lie down on my floor and put this mix on... just to bring back the memories of a time where I hadn't a care in the world. -
OCR02230 - Final Fantasy V "A Healer's Touch"
Tuberz McGee replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is such a calm and serene mix. I love it. The guitar was exactly what this mix needed as a backbone. The "width" and spectrum of this mix is perfect. I love how much the guitar takes up. The guitar tone is really glittery and sounds good with the leads AND the rhythms. All the background pad work only adds to the softness of the track. My only problem with this mix is that I wish it was longer. I've exhausted the replay value on it. Haha Waiting for Water to come out was never so hard. But it's the prospect of more mixes like this that makes it bearable. -
OCR00273 - Chrono Trigger "Schala's Paradise"
Tuberz McGee replied to m68030's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Oh dear. Schala... as overdone as it is. It's a fantastic source. This is done in a way I would have never picked. I always thought that it was a sad solemn song. This in my opinion detracts from the emotion in the source. I'm not a huge fan of this mix. I can understand that it may also come from the fact that there are millions of Schala mixes. Though for a 2001 mix... this is quite good production wise. I'm really impressed by it actually. -
I love the vocoder or talkbox or whatever the vocals are going through. This mix always reminded me of what I hate about modern music and made it good. It's so cheesy and playful, like the rest of the album that I instantly fall in love. I really can't say much more than, it's fun and I love singing along.

OCR02228 - Final Fantasy V "Edge of Valor"
Tuberz McGee replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I've said it before. I'll say it again. I LOVE THIS WHOLE GODDAMN ALBUM The opening is very epic and immediately has a sense of purpose. This is a strict metaphor for a Knight. They must immediately be at the top of their game and must have a sense of purpose. This album is full of musical metaphors. The percussion is what stands out for me the most however. At 1:50 it is all stripped bare and reveals the calm and gentle side to a Knight. I can't praise any of the tracks on this album enough. Really... I can't. -
OCR02340 - Final Fantasy VII "BadAzz"
Tuberz McGee replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Holy crap. I'm gonna start this by asking Prototyperaptor to marry me. I don't even like the source material. I can't stand "One Winged Angel". This is the polar opposite of what One Winged Angel is. The phat beats and synths are sooo cool. The arrangement is great. Deriving from the source in all the right ways. The mix builds up at the beginning to the infamous "SEPHIROTH" in a way unimagined before. Not sure if it's a vocoder or a talkbox or whatever. Don't care. It's just plain Badazz. The section at 1:40 is perfect. Changing the feel entirely. I can't say enough about this mix. But I'm not gonna leave an essay here because no-one cares. Haha All in all. I can't get enough of this man. Keep it up! -
OCR02149 - Final Fantasy V "Little Black Book"
Tuberz McGee replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This mix... no wait... this entire ALBUM fills me with joy. The hi-hat in the back slowly becomes the sound of white noise which is important. It makes the Black Mage's portrayal seem even more demented than it is. This mix becomes a portrayal of a stereotype. A mysterious "dark" individual. When the hi-hat stops to allow the horns to play, you feel let into the Black Mage's world. It's only for a brief instant however... as the hi-hat comes back in very quickly. All in all. This mix is so good that I spent that long raging about a hi-hat. AWWWW YEAH -
I'm a very big fan of Piano remixes. The expression is what does it for me. I sit at the piano for hours, trying to improvise off of a song that I learned the day earlier. I just fall short of the beauty shown by these incredible mixers. Every time I feel like I can't improvise well enough... I listen to this mix. It inspires me to continue. To strive to get better. Mixes should do this more often. They shouldn't just be there to give nostalgia, but to make others WANT to do pay homage too.

OCR02338 - Chrono Trigger "Glenn"
Tuberz McGee replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The expression in this mix brings back memories. This is my favourite game. This source is not represented enough. You did it absolute justice. A SINGLE MANLY TEAR WAS SHED... SERIOUSLY... DON'T JUDGE ME But it actually brings back memories of when I used to go to my Grandma's house too. She would play piano for hours, and I would listen. This transcended the video game that it pays homage to... and entered my real life. I can't thank you enough for such a beautiful mix.
