  1. Not sure you guys ever got the full story on the last track, but I went down to Arkansas to hang out with President Hoodie, Chip Mom, and of course, Theory of N. So this collaboration actually got to happen in person, and it was pretty awesome. I sent Dustin a 20-30 second WIP with the first part of the track for direction, and he laid out the skeleton for the rest of the arrangement while I was working my ass off to finish up the other release on time. Then I got to making that lead synth, and we fleshed out the instrumentation a little more with more Mega Man X samples (guitar, bass, vibes, orchestral hits). We each had an 8 bar solo section toward the end, ToN on the E Piano and me with the MMX guitar. Turned out pretty funktacular, if I may say so myself, and it was killer collabing in person
  2. YEP!! Just got an email from a guy at indiemusicalbumreviews.com saying I should submit for review on their site, anyone know anything about them?
  3. I endorse the *shit* out of this. Can't wait to see what everyone ends up doing, this thing has a hell of a roster and Ton/halc know what they're doing on the staffing end of things. GET YOUR TRACK TODAY!!
  4. WHOOOOO BABY. I'm wide open, ladies Hoping to find someone who can conquer a grill like a 40 year old fireman but has the sense of humor of a 6 year old. I think that about sums it up. Preferably someone who can pay the bills, because I plan on composing until I inevitably make it work or starve to death I never was very good at selling myself Oh yeah hey I'll set you up with my ex girlfriend!! That's literally her to a T. And good news for you, apparently the only pre-requisite to date her is being christian, but she didn't decide that until we'd been dating for a year......... </3
  5. Seriously!! The first time I saw it, it was laid out in step-by-step pictures, but I couldn't find the link for that... there are TONS of modded handheld 64s now. I think they even sell them, and I KNOW they sell handheld SNESes. I played Xarnax's on the way to MAG
  6. People do all kinds of system modding; was the first one I saw that really really blew me away. I'd like to look into doing stuff like this myself
  7. Yeah yeah, some of you will complain because I said triple release a while back... I decided against the last EP. It's not ready, and I don't want to rush it. A preview of one of the tracks can be found here though ANYWAY, onto business: I traveled down to Colt, AR to hang out with Brandon "President Hoodie" Hood, his girlfriend Erin "Chip Mom" McQuisten, and our own Dustin "Theory of N" Lagaly for a live listening party for my first original album release, Sliced Bread: UNCRUSTED!! It's been released through 9-bit Records (and was also apparently played at one of the MAGFest satellite events), and I'm very honored to have been the first to receive a djp-style writeup by halc on the 9BR page <3 While in Arkansas, Theory of N and I got to collaborate in person (!) to finish up the GMRB at long last. Some of you have already heard some of these tracks, but the finale has not yet seen the light of the internet. I'd love to hear what you all think of both the albums, good or bad!! Also, I feel it's worth mentioning that all the collaborations were an enormous amount of fun all around, and include of course Theory of N, but also Hylian Lemon and Omni-Psyence. I also owe thanks to Kevin Villecco, who put together all the text and edited album art at my request. Thanks a load, all of you guys
  8. Kinda thinking the same thing. Keep us posted dude... Either way, since we passed my window of easy participation, I probably won't be able to participate much if at all in this last part of the compo unless it happens after the 16th. I've got a triple release happening and I'm cramming really hard for it. Spent all day yesterday working on album art so we can hype, and the track list isn't even close to done hahaha
  9. Yeah dude! That's the exciting thing about SM, the gameplay mechanics and advanced techniques (and some random elements) leave gameplay WIDELY open-ended. I've yet to see a perfect or even NEAR-perfect run, yet all the stuff they do is insane and really, really fun to watch. Glad someone relates
  10. Too lazy to read a whole bunch, but I'm a pretty avid Super Metroid runner and I love watching speed runs on Twitch.tv. The record has been oscillating between Garrison and Kottpower over the past few months. And the records have been taken in a HUGE way most of the time (7-14 seconds, which is pretty nuts for a Super Metroid run). Haven't watched in a while, but last I checked WR was around 46:14 or something (for those that don't know, the game clock *isn't actually real time* (ZOMG?!!), and the game clock typically hangs around 0:31 for the majority of these runs) Not exactly a "Let's Play," but it's still watching someone else play
  11. Yikes, idk if I'd be able to do a month from the post date... I'm solidly booked with AT LEAST a couple tracks a week until March 15-17 (depending on some coordination) for a triple release. I can certainly try to have something soon after that though! Apologies, didn't see the post until just now and things got real crazy for me real fast EDIT: I imagine you could make SOME part of what I already have work for a preview though
  12. Drums seem to be mixed a bit loud, particularly the hats and other high freq percussion. Can't really comment on too much other than that since all I have is laptop speakers at the moment I liked this quite a bit though, particularly the break around 2:05, keep it up!
  13. Damn dude, just get that shit lopped out! Oh no wait that's... that's your appendix that you don't need.. Um go ahead and keep it in, on second thought. But get to feeling better soon man, sorry your body's roughin' you up
  14. I like this one a lot better actually. Still not 100% sold on the lead tone, but the writing is bitching. One progression really jumped out at me in a good way as well, and I'm a man who loves his uncommon progressions <3
  15. Just be patient man, both of us have all kinds of stuff going on musically and irl. I promise it's coming not to mention no shortage of coordination nightmares. Additional explanation with end product
  16. PM'd DJM, sorry about missing this deadline by a bit, but I HAVE restarted my track from scratch as I was talking about (and have also been insanely busy as of late, mainly with 9-Bit Blizzard), and I plan on finishing the thing in the next couple of weeks (I'll just need a bit of flexibility with school projects and a final WAV date for another project as well). Get hype for pH's return to ethnic jungle jams
  17. Learning how to manipulate the piano roll can play a huge part in sequencing with better sound libraries later on, and FL has an INSANELY powerful piano roll, and I for one like to take full advantage of it. I personally pay a lot of attention to arrangement/structure (not so much source usage for sources that I'm unfamiliar with). I think there's tons to be said about going more in depth with the program, even if it's just with the piano roll, since working with more basic sounds forces you to write more interesting stuff. That's one of the main reasons I got into chiptunes like I did a while back; the limitations forced me to write more with more complexity, and it has worked wonders for my melodic writing and structuring. It also helps loads with humanization of organic instrumentation. I'm not saying production isn't important, but there's definitely still something to be said about arrangement and the actual writing too. It's not like it just suddenly doesn't apply because of the limitations. At the end of the day, in my opinion at least, it's about making great music with ALL of the available tools, which relies heavily on production AND arrangement... Seems odd to me that people are looking at it as one or the other EDIT: That being said, I'd have liked to have gone more in-depth with my track with the humanizing and processing and mixing, but as I mentioned before I unfortunately only had about 3 hours to get it done and had to cut my work short
  18. Bleh, I don't like the structure personally, but thanks man, that still means a lot :D

  19. Whew, 3 hours is not a lot of time to write track for sources you're unfamiliar with, especially since Soule writes really awesome complex music (who knew?). Got it done though, even though I'm not completely satisfied with it (feels kinda like I'm doing a disservice to an awesome composer D: ) Also holy shit, I was thinking 10 CT and was gonna wait till after I got home from work to sub. Good thing I didn't wait Also if anyone looks at my project file, prepare your anus for EXTREME disorganization
  20. Can't wait to hear.. I loved Starcraft EDIT: Alrighty soooo finally finished up an important original track... Time to sleep and then get going on my FL Compo track Hopefully I can churn something decent out in time
  21. Tuberz you're not on my OCR friends list so we're not really friends yet

  22. Haha, before I even found OCR (and was still using Finale 2010 lol), I found his MM6 remixes and started bugging him on his facebook page about what software he uses Vurez's work is awesome
  23. It came from anterroir, who's German. I'm guessing it was just a bad (and hilarious) translation. Oh google...
