  1. I absolutely adore capcom and namco's fighting games. I really wanted to write a lil' jingle that would work as a character select in a fighting game. So I googled up some pics of Tekken, Street Fighter and Final Fight. Then I could hear this little riff starting in my head. I translated it from thought to guitar and this is what I got. http://tindeck.com/listen/tywf Tell me what you think? Would it work in one of those games?
  2. True that supers can put forth new strategy and as you said some characters have a totally different super move than their ultra. Ultras were not intended to be replacements for supers but, They might as well be. The way I see it, If you're playing this game well, you really should not have to throw out a super unless you have some grand and specific plan for that super. At least with the characters I usually play as, I find it far more effective to use the EX moves instead and if I start losing, the ultra combo will be waiting. With it's power, I could turn the tables or possibly win the match with that. On the other hand, I could whiff it and fail miserably. If I'm just saving up to use a super combo, and plan to use it in a combo or set up some kind of trap, It could perhaps be blocked or miss. In which case I'm as a good as a punching bag and all the meter that could've been used for the (usually) safer EX moves has gone to waste. A scenario I've run into a few times, Is I've decided "I'm gonna get this guy with a super." So I build up that meter and manage to get him with a combo. This was enough to really build up his Ultra combo strength. The opponent then manages to hit me with their ultra and now I'm at less health than them. TL;DR I'm not complaining about that, I just personally would've preferred the game didn't have two different special gauges. I'll live with it though.
  3. I'm stoked, I gotta get back in the SFIV groove again. Me and Chun Li kicked much ass. Which means I'll have to buy more xbox gold or whatever. Good to see they're actually expanding and improving upon SFIV. My only issue with this Street Fighter game has been the ultra combos. You get an Ultra from getting you're ass beat. Which are 2-3x more powerful than the game's super combos, which you are awarded for playing good. So in the end I found super combos somewhat useless. I usually just wasted the super meter on EX moves.
  4. That's killer! Love the guitars and that synth. However, the lead guitar is a tad too quite in my opinion.
  5. I didn't even know there was going to be the Arcade Edition as DLC until this thread. That's awesome.
  6. F Zero! How could I forget http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrL9WUD8qwQ
  7. Sweet shredding Jesus......that is awesome. As most all Capcom soundtracks are. Anyway, what are some great guitar solos from video game music?
  8. I know you're not picking on me or anything lol. Where'd you get that idea? I really appreciate the feedback and I think you've made great points. After playing around with it a bit, the source of the guitar problem seems to be too much gain and too many layers of guitars, and volume. However, I probably should note that I sort of just threw together the guitar parts rather quickly for this recording because I really wanted to hear it with guitar XD Indeed the piano is Nexus. I'll keep on workin' with this and I'll post an updated version asap.
  9. This is Metal we're talkin lol Seriously though, thanks. Yeah, I could probably back off the gain a bit. It is also a bit overpowering like you say. Hmm....I shall keep workin' on it.
  10. Thank you. Indeed, I do love the sound of retro/synth brass.
  11. Funny, I was just discussing this with Rozovian and Fishy. I've been playing for a long time, but don't know too much about mixing. Here's what I do know, Double track the guitars. Put one left and one right. Some people pan them 100% some only 70%. I usually go 100%. You can also Quad track them. Playing the same part four times and using two different tones. Another trick is to delay one of the guitar tracks by around 20-40 milliseconds or so. That's called the "haas trick". Btw, make sure you're tracks are two seperate takes. The variation in the performance is what counts. Using some of the stuff I've been learning about guitar production, I started workin' on a new remix. Don't know if it's "radio quality though." Check it out here http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=35167 In that I have four guitar tracks and two different tones. I also used the haas trick.
  12. Thanks! Yeah the drums are just from EZDrummer. Thanks. However guitar is panned totally left and right. I don't see how that's not correct. Explain more. The thing I disagree with is where you say "if you dont do the haas trick, your guitar is concidered as good as Mono." As we both know, I'm no master of production, but I really don't think that's true. I have two seperate takes panned. Maybe it's not the best stereo image in the world, but it's certainly better than mono. I did the haas trick on one guitar track before (25ms) but to be honest, I didn't really notice any difference. So I changed it back.
  13. So I have this insane idea to combine "The Masked Devil" from Ninja Gaiden and "Primal Eyes" from Parasite Eve. The clip I've posted so far doesn't have the parasite eve part though..... See, I'm working on the intro. I want to fit Masked Devil and the main theme/guitar riff of primal eyes together. I'm not sure if it would work better with Primal Eyes and it's subtle riff kickin' off this tune, or if I should just keep the intro as it is. Here's the intro so far http://tindeck.com/listen/zoug Here's the two source tunes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGWa4Zm0YDA So far I'm thinkin' it may be better to start the song off with the intro of Primal Eyes, I could be wrong though.
  14. Thanks Rozovian! I shall keep experimenting.
  15. Okay, so it's no secret I'm terrible with mixin' but I wanna know something. Recording distorted guitars, double tracking them and panning them left and right is pretty much standard right? Well, I do that, but I usually use the same guitar tone for both takes. Last night someone told me that it's far more effective if you use two completely different tones? In your experience, is that true or false?
  16. Personally, my experience with recording in FL Studio was a nightmare. I originally thought it was because the computer I had at the time had low RAM. However, my new, much much better computer didn't really solve any of the other issues. For some reason, it's only with FL that I get latency problems, skips in the music, finding the correct volume is a bitch etc. I tried every solution people told me to fix those things and none of it worked. I don't know why. I found it MUCH easier and in the end more effective to record with some other program designed specifically for recording. Hell, even free programs work well. Then you export the tracks as audio clip(s) and sync em' up in FL and do whatever you want to them from there. Rather than recording it all within FL. Some people will probably disagree with that, and it's probably result of me just bein' a n00b, but it worked well for me. Then again, I probably shouldn't even have FL or any of those programs =/ Since I can't mix worth shit anyway.
  17. Well, here it is. It's alright I guess. I don't plan to sub it. I didn't really screw with the arrangement besides adding a guitar solo at the end. This song is memorable to me, because I think it was the first song I ever learned to play completely by ear. Anyway, it's more of a cover than a remix and I don't think the production is there. So no sub, but I hope ya like it for what it is. http://tindeck.com/listen/ljbj
  18. I don't really think music "determines" an identity. To say that music has no reflection of who you are at all? I don't really think that's true. When asked to describe his band, Stephan Forte replied, "If I had to dedicate my life to create one, and only one painting. It would be a black and glossy painting, describing a detailed scene of the apocalypse. With beauty, passion and above all a strong dramatic dimension. The particularity of this painting is that it would have a size increasing constantly, each time getting deeper and wider.”
  19. Thanks! No worries, I shall finish this as it's one of my favorite tunes. I will also compose some completely original parts for it.
  20. I need new strings lol. The drums overpower it? Here I thought they are too quiet. Thanks, I'll continue workin' on this.
  21. I've always loved Gambit's theme. So I decided to do a home made remix/cover of it.....I'm terrible at mixing and so far I think I've butchered it something bad. http://soundcloud.com/chrisschmidtmusic/gambits-theme-wip Well actually, I like it so far but my guitar tone sucks ass so I'll probably just cut out the guitar. Anyway, let me know what you think. Tips?
  22. Now here is an awesome thread. Symphony X really has taken a much darker direction. So far, it's sounds heavier and darker than Paradise Lost. The thing I always love about Mike's riffs, is they have the prog-metal complexity but still sound very musical. Love how he often throws in a sort of....."middle eastern" feel. Plus, his tone is killer. Dehumanized overall sounds really great. Most 6-7 minute songs tend to just get boring but this song holds my interest throughout and I've been listening to it every day since it was posted by NuclearBlast. It's catchy and sweet shredding Jesus........that solo. The lead playing in this song is insane. I shall surrender my money to this album at once on June 17th.
