  1. I hated FL's recording. Admittedly that was just because I didn't know how to use it. You just have to adjust some buffer rates and then your pretty much good to go. It shouldn't matter what interface you're using to record. If it works, it works.
  2. My greatest gaming achivement, was finally being able to climb the ledge in the first level of Tomb Raider 2 after 10 years. I love those games but It took me forever just to jump onto the first pillar. Wtf is this non-sense with a "walk button". Anyway, when I was halfway up the ledge, I accidentally hit the circle button and Lara did a flip and fell to her death. Then I had to start all over.......I nearly cried.
  3. ZOE 2 was such a killer game Sounds much better without the complete abortion that was the vocals from the original song. The vocals in Beyond The Bounds had a striking resemblence to that of an Orphanage burning. The screams of a hundred parentless children running from flames in short. Now to stop with the morbid shit, I really like this here remix. It's got a mellow, calm vibe that I really enjoy. Drums sound really good. The thing that gets me though.........the strings. They just stop like someone pressing play and pause on a cassette tape. They come to a grinding halt that nearly bashes my head into the steering wheel. It needs an airbag. In English, It's real sharp and could be much smoother with some automated delay or maybe fade out in my opinion. Btw, the piano sounds nice! It's also kinda short but that's no crime. All in all, I liked it.
  4. I wear only black and listen to death metal. Where are the br00tulz in this? Srsly what's with this lame pop stuff that's alllll auto-tuned and takes like 5 minutes to make? No talent man......no talent. I'm gonna go back and make real music with my band. We don't need that music theory garbage or tune our guitars properly. We play from the heart. Just kidding I don't play in a death metal band. Seriously though it sounds awesome overall. The vocals sound great too but in my opinion they sound a little too over produced. I'm really lovin' those classic disco strings too. Same with the sound effects. The one big thing that this lacks though, is an included disco ball. Other than that though, top shelf remix. Great stuff!!!
  5. Lookin' forward to it. You been working on this track a while. Should sound killer in the end.
  6. So yea, I just started on a little metal cover of "Lightning Strikes" from Raiden III. I wanted to go with an oldschool, 90s Gamma Ray or Stratovarius feel. This is the intro http://tindeck.com/listen/fgmy original song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRpufq7Z-AM
  7. Try killing the reverb on the guitar for sure. I'm not saying it can't fit, quite the contrary actually. Listening again, the guitar on my left is considerably louder than the one on my right. It's quite distracting. It's sounds like both guitars are doing something different all the time. Often a different melody. For example, the right guitar is up an octave or so and it has this one moment of tremelo picking but the left guitar remains just a regular picked note. There's lots of other times where the one guitar plays a faster melody and the other is slower. I don't think that frequenices are the problem with guitar really. I think it's that there is too much going on in the composition and some mix issues. In my opinion, if you get rid of the reverb on the guitar and make it a bit more rythmetic (more on this in a sec) balance out the volumes and make the guitars play the same thing it'll sound alot better. Another issue here is that you don't really have a definite rhythm. Almost everything is just melody. Try using the guitar in a rhythmetic sense and let the orchestra play your leads.
  8. I remember this tune. I personally think it's that the distorted guitar doesn't really fit. Seems kinda....dissonant? I dunno but it seems like theres a guitar doing one thing and the other is doing something completely different and it just makes my head swirl. You could try adjusting frequencies like Cree said but I really don't think that'll fix it.
  9. I was bored so I created a orchestral/egyptian sounding track. It's given me an idea to do a really epic Tomb Raider mix. I absolutely love anything with an Egyptian or Arabian Nights sorta feel to it. So please, clickity clack that there play button let me know your thoughts. It makes me feel good inside.
  10. Thanks Gar! Well, contrast was sort of the idea in the ocean of synths lol. I didn't really think so but perhaps it is too sharp. However, I'm really not sure what I could add for guitars to the backing track that would blend well besides some stereotypical funk scratching. Which the synth is already taking care of. I've already got lots going on.
  11. The purpose of the bass is to create a harmonic outline and provide a rhythmetic pulse. It can play any of the notes. For example, in rock and metal music. The bass often plays the same thing as the rhythm guitar, only the rhythm guitar will harmonize with chords and such. Say you have a chord progression....Em to D Major. The bass could play an E note rhythm through the Em chord and a D note rhythm through the D chord. That's an extremely basic form of the bassline....but it fills it's role. The bass can play any of the chord tones and other notes of the scale in between those chord tones to create a riff. Listen to "bloodlines" from Castlevania dracula x. Listen to how the bass riff shifts intervals to match the chord progression. You could play just the bassline and you would still be able to hear the rise and fall of the music
  12. Check out Darkesword's (he's a cool guy and one of the mods) soundfonts. He has lots of great free soundfonts for orchestral stuff. Actually, google lots of free soundfonts too. Things don't have to be expensive to sound great. For DAWS and stuff like that, FL Studio, Ableton, Reason, Pro Tools are all popular and work equally well. Check this out too http://rekkerd.org/fretted-synth/ some soundfonts and free vst plugins. Some decent guitar effects vsts it seems. I've tried out the wah stomp box and I love it. Not as good as a real wah pedal but I don't own a real wah pedal atm so that's the next best thing. If you're recording stuff....you can use mics or direct line in. Both have their ups and downs. I'm currently using a mic for recording guitar but I'd actually rather go line in. Also, MIDI keyboards are extremely useful. You don't need a super high end one either. I hear you can even use the midi keyboards for the "Rockband game" though I haven't checked that out myself so i dunno if it's true. I just have a cheap yamaha one and it works well.
  13. Speaking of Guilty Gear I-No's theme from Guilty Gear X2 KOREAN soundtrack. The Korean soundtrack totally destroyed. I love metal to death but I always thought the japanese soundtracks kinda sucked.
  14. FL Studio is bitchin'. I love it. A guy tells me that Ableton is easy, yet I tried it out and was like 0.o
  15. Well, it's very far from being OCR worthy but it's still good enough for my youtube channel at this stage. Changes: Remaster, little less bass. Piano has been lowered and has some velocity changes on the first few sixteenths I grabbed my guitar and did some wah-wah funky rock soloin' Any final suggestions before I slap the done sticker on it?
  16. Gambit's Theme - X-Men Vs Street Fighter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QL8ygb9X03M Why I like it? It's a good song and probably one of the most memorable tunes from the first few MVC games in my opinion. Not much else to say besides "it's awesome"
  17. I started on acoustic and electric at the same time. The only reason I found electric slightly harder to learn is because it's a little bit harder to control the sound. Your muting has to be spot on. Especially if you're using gain, the slightest knock or movement can set it off. But in terms of "finger strength" there's really no difference between the two. For most people, it kinda hurts to play in the beginning until your fingers get a little tougher and the skin on your fingertips becomes armor. It's just as effective to start with electric as it is to start with acoustic.
  18. THIS DAMN IT Snappleman provides better info than most guitar "articles" I see out there.
  19. Alright, thanks! You always provide quality advice! I also got a different pick, which has reduced some of that damn scratchy pick noise.
  20. Well I love this tone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEnewgP41Ec But that's way higher end gear than what I have. But if I could get even kind of close that'd be sweet.
  21. I've been trying to improve my guitar tone without buyin' new gear. I try not to use too much or too little gain, try not to have too much or too little of anything really. So in like, 20 minutes I just whipped up this little recording of what the guitar sounds like right now. Some people tell me it's fine, other's tell me it's shit. I don't really know who to believe anymore. So what are your suggestions? http://tindeck.com/listen/fhdu
  22. Yeah but screw lockin' Winston in the freezer. GRENADE LAUNCHER HIS ASS
  23. I saw that E3 trailer just as I was dusting off TR 2 lol I don't know, the mansion was cool yeah....but it didn't really add anything to the game itself. If I recall correctly, it was more just a tutorial/training ground. Since this is supposed to be Lara's first adventure and she gets ship-wrecked, I just have my doubts about the mansion free-roam making an appearance. The only thing I hated about the original PS1 games, was that the most difficult aspect of the game was controlling Lara. I guess I can live without the mansion.
