Wow. YOUR MOM! I just wanted to say that. Seriously though, she's an awesome violinist, and your work on the rest of the mix is excellent Doug. Nice mix of synth and acoustic. This is actually (to me) very reminiscent of something I'd hear in the Chrono Trigger OST or on a Black Mages album, especially with your nice long Uematsu-esque synth key solo. I liked how that segued into your mom's ever so smooth violin work too. Just a good mix all round. If you can't get her to post, tell her I enjoyed it!

Of course it's influenced by WoW, it's the same group of designers, there's gonna be crossover. The point is, WoW is long since showing its age in the graphics department, the engine is 4 years old. Also WoW was intended to look slighty animated, which is a great look for that world. But if you want a fair comparison, pull some shots of Lich King and compare them, that expansion will have graphical enhancements to try and keep it on par with today's new games. No matter how you look at it, D3 is undeniably gorgeous. I love the overall look, and the gothic color pallette will work well I think. It's still dark, but not boringly dark. As someone with a small amount of experince in 3D animation, it really sucks to model a whole environment perfectly and then see all your form and texture ruined because somebody threw one can of paint over the entire thing. light adds depth, and color adds more. I'm definitely gonna go buy the Diablo Battle Chest so I'm caught up on this series when D3 comes out.

I suppose this means I have to complete my Blizzard series collection and go get Diablo 1 and 2 now.

Happy birthday, you whippersnapper you! Now go drink heavily, this will be the best birthday of your life. Everything from here on out just means you're getting older. Except your 25th birthday, that means your insurance will get cheaper.

I thought Matt Newman had a lock for best Ocean Palace cover ever. You just won. This is great stuff. I come back after a month without downloading any mixes, and the whole front page is plastered with epic shit. Just awesome. -
OCR01727 - Mega Man X3 "Revolutions"

Jesus CHRIST Dain, you make me cry happy tears. Your balls to the wall style has always made you my personal favorite mixer on the site, and this one's no different. EXCELLENT piece. Not only that, thanks to the interview, I now know you have ALBUMS full of this badassery, and I will be buying them as soon as possible. There's a lot more of an acid sound to this mix than most of yours, which isn't a bad thing by any means. Love th industrial grind throughout. This is the proverbial good shit. Nice work! -

Site idea: Game composer contact info?
Shadow Wolf replied to Shadow Wolf's topic in General Discussion
True. I often forget the stupid factor of the internet at large. -
Okay, so I just had an idea. I'm listening to the Elder Scrolls 4 soundtrack right now, contemplating how beautiful it is, and I'm thinking "I wish I could let Jeremy Soule know personally how much I like this soundtrack." Then it occurred to me that Jeremy has a mix posted here. That doesn't necessarily mean I can contact him, but it gave me an idea. Certain composers have expressed their support for the site before: Tommy Tallarico, Jeremy Soule, Hiroki Kikuta, etc. Wouldn't it be cool if we could e-mail them? Obviously some folks don't want to be bothered by millions of fanboys, but all we can do is ask them, and the worst they can do is say no, right? I'm sure a lot of these composers have guestbooks and such on their personal websites as well, we could start cobbling resources like that together, and find a way to share the love. Anyhow, what do you think?

I was going to mention that one exception, and I totally forgot to. Rika Muranaka did an astounding job on that particular song, it was a perfect ending to the game. It's the only song from the original MGS I have loaded up into iTunes. As far as the MGS theme goes, I've beaten the game several times, unlocked all the fun stuff, and I don't ever remember hearing it. It's distinctly possible Hibino wrote it and they used it in Promos and stuff, but it never got any title screen love until Virtual Missions.
-
In my opinion, the music for MGS 1 is fairly forgettable no matter which version you're referring to. The now famous Metal Gear Solid theme was not even in that game so far as I know, I believe it first showed up in Virtual Missions in 1999. I didn't care for any of the music until Harry Gregson Williams got his hooks into it, and turned Hibino's theme into a piece of music so epic it should be our Goddamn national anthem.

It's probably already been said, but I'd strongly recommend getting both. To me, there was more challenge to MGS on the Playstation because there was no first person sighting, and a few sneak moves were missing. It's an epic experience, really. Twin Snakes is basically MGS redone with the Sons of Liberty shell and control scheme. Twin snakes is great, but you lose a lot of the power of the original, really. And you'll wanna slap Mei Ling in Twin Snakes once you've heard her in the original.

One other thing: as far as I know, the complete EVE Online soundtrack isn't available anywhere on the internet. I can upload it somewhere if anyone wants it. All the files ripped straight from the game are in OGG format, which sounds great, you just might need a plugin to play the files. OGG can be easily converted to MP3 as well. Most importantly, OGG files are way smaller than MP3s, so that's probably the format you'll get, if no one has any objections.

Hey guys, maybe some of you can help me with a little project. I don't actually play EVE Online, because I don't have the time, but I've played through the demo several times. At any rate, I adore literally all the music in this game. I started with Revelations II about a year ago, and fell in love with the login screen theme. But I noticed when I went looking for it that the EVE Soundtrack CCP has for download on their website didn't include that song. So, I reinstalled Revelations II, and used a specialized unzipping program to extract every shred of music from the game, which at the time was 81 tracks, compared to the 20 something on the CCP site. Lots of hiding music. So, since then I've made it a habit to install every major new iteration of EVE and pull out any new music that may be in there. So far I've done it with Revelations II, Trinity, and just today, Empyrean Age, and we're up to 87 tracks now. Not a lot more, but this doesn't take long to do either. But here's the thing. I noticed when I dug into the Empyrean Age files tonight, they actually removed all traces of the Trinity Theme from the game files. That's fine, since it isn't Trinity, but it leads me to wonder: They obviously take some older music out, so how much music has been removed from EVE since it began? I'm sure the songs for several login screens are lost to the past at least. So anyways, I want a complete "History of EVE" Soundtrack, and to do that, I need to start at the beginning. So if anyone knows where I can download EVE Online setup files from when it started until now, I'd love to know. To answer the inevitable question, I know I need the most current client to login. I don't even need to start the game to do this. Just the setups. Also, I don't need every iteration of every EVE client ever released. Just one from the original and each expansion. Thanks guys!

OK, I said I'd let you all know what happened when my phone got here, so here we go. First things first, Verizon activated the phone without even twitching, no problems whatsoever. I did have to modify my phone plan a tiny bit however. For one thing, I had to change my texting plan, because the one I had was specifically for non-smartphones. Don't ask me how, but ok. At any rate, the one I was on was 250 text messages a month for $5, I had to bump it up to 500 messages a month for $10, which I don't mind since I get Facebook updates from a lot of friends on my phone and I was coming close to 250 messages a month anyhow. The big question: do I have to have a data plan? Yes and no. Verizon offers two data plans as you click through the activation pages. One is unlimited data usage for $39.95 a month, which honestly isn't bad if you're gonna use internet on your phone a lot. The other plan, which I chose, is pay as you go data, for an initial cost of $0. Then I simply went into my phone's connection settings and deleted the connection for Verizon's BroadbandAccess, so my phone will never connect that way to download data. In other words, I have a data plan, but it's completely dormant and won't cost me a penny. So there you have it, I bought a 400 dllar phone off eBay for 147, and it's costing me 5 dollars more per month to use all the features I want on it. In other news, if you want a beautifully functional Smartphone/Pocket PC, I recommend the Treo. I could go on for hours about the awesomeness.

Welcome new judges Fishy and Another Soundscape!

This is seriously the most epic thing I've seen on these boards in months. This needs an official The Coop backup to make sure it never goes away. Oh, congrats guys, judge lots and be awesome and shit. -

Do a barrel roll! -
I'll post and let you know when it shows up and if it works.

Yep, I checked the VZW site, and there's a field to enter an ESN and activate a phone, there's even an option to say you got it from another source besides VZW. So I bought one. Yay! I hope it works.

Hey folks. I have a question, and since everyone here is wildly intelligent and tech savvy , I figured this would be the place to ask. I'm on Verizon Wireless for cell phone service. Love the service, but I want a new phone, specifically a Palm Treo 700wx. I do NOT want the price tag Verizon is charging to buy it from them, a pretty 400 dollars. So the question is this: I can buy a Verizon Wireless Palm Treo 700wx off eBay for a little over 100 dollars. As long as I buy it from a business and confirm that it has coverage in my area, and the ESN number is clear, will Verizon give me any crap if I try to call and activate it? I already asked a Verizon rep this, and he gave me the expected answer, I should buy the phone from Verizon to ensure compatibility. That's not what I asked, I asked if it was possible. So have any of you bought cell phones off eBay, specifically Verizon, and do they give you any shit when you try to activate them?
