  1. Checked out a few tracks, sounds good! Downloading the mp3s
  2. Just want to say thanks for bringing me back to my youth. Tyrian rocks, and I found an open source version! I can play all the stages now! Cheers!
  3. Woo finally back! All pledged up
  4. I like Letter to a Young Composer.
  5. If I ever learn a stringed instrument, this has to be it! Great job dude
  6. Hmmm listened on my iems and laptop speakers, don't hear any crackling. Any segment you think the crackling is particularly obvious? I know I've got ears of lead EDIT: I think I have encountered crackling before on my laptop speakers but with other kind of sounds, I'm pretty sure I just lowered my faders (before the master bus) and it went away...
  7. One thing that stands out for me is the need for more dynamics, everything now seems to be playing at the same level
  8. Great piece! Btw the description on synthetic orchestra appears to be the same as the post previous to it.
  9. Love it! look forward to seeing this finaled
  10. http://www.plogue.com/products/chipsounds/ chipsounds, half off till 17th September.
  11. If I'm not mistaken, impulses are meant for convolution reverbs (e.g Altiverb, Space Designer, Wave IR-1 etc); 2cAudio's stuff is all algorithmic reverb, so no impulses there. Samplicity has M7 impulses, and for the logic users, look here for the converted versions.
  12. uses Arts Acoustica's reverb. I'd like to get that someday. hths!
  13. Cheers mate! Something to not worry about should I go back to windows :3
  14. I'm pretty sure I used asio4all back in the day, can't remember why I didn't use the manufacturer's drivers. I'm thinking if your audio hardware has proper drivers on windows, simultaneous playback is fine?
  15. One thing I like about OSX's Core Audio is that I can run audio at low latencies, and at the same time still maintain system sounds (i.e. listen to youtube, email beeps etc) Last I was on windows (this was at least a decade ago, with a Tapco Link.USB audio interface), when I had asio engaged, everything else had no sound. I'm not sure if this is the case in newer versions of windows, but that is part of why I went with osx. On the flip side, osx has issues like having to load vsl/play before kontakt due to memory server issues, blah blah blah. Platform/daw has its plus and minus points; pick the best for yourself. I have tried very hard to like and use fruity loops back in the day, but it just does not work for me :-/ Logic otoh is :3
  16. Loved this bundle. I like the toy instruments the most, has an otamatone in there :3 Thanks!
  17. I agree with what's said above; I usually start with Finale Printmusic then shift over to logic for sequencing. Since your budget is low, if you want to try the compose -> sequence route (I have several friends that directly sequence in FL and Reason with no notation), try out http://musescore.org/ - it's open source, and very usable. Used it for a bit when my laptop went for repairs. DAW wise, I really can't say as I haven't used windows in ages, much less so for sequencing. I would suggest looking at FL Studio as they have a variety of bundles to suit your budget, then there's reaper, sonar, studio one, etc, some with various tiered pricing. Also, if you are intending to record stuff, if you buy an audio interface, it may come with a daw. I think mine came with Cubase LE, iirc. Oh, even midi keyboards do that, I think my m-audio keyboard came with cubase le as well lol. All the best!
  18. Hello! Welcome to ocremix! What kind of OS and budget do you have?
  19. How about testing the libraries? Try-sound has vsl se and OE. http://www.try-sound.com Could help you make up your mind.
  20. Seriously, it's a troll. Don't waste time. Delete, report, done. The more you get riled up, the more you feed the troll. If you do know your orchestration isn't that good, spend time working on it, not fussing over youtube comments. 10,000 hour rule; trolls ain't got no slice of that pie.
  21. The non-SE vsl libraries may not be an improvement compared to the SE in terms of velocity layers, my solo violin and chamber violins only have 2 layers for the legato performance interval patches, and the repetition performance legato patches 3 velocity levels. Defo agree with Moseph about not getting OE as your first library... I think VSL SE is a great lib, lots of solo/ensemble instruments to put together. ALSO: Kontakt. I bought kontakt specifically for using it as a sampler for kontakt libraries, but the factory library is fairly complete, if lacking in orchestral legato patches. The factory library seems to be a cut down version of vsl as well.
  22. Just looked over at the orchestral essential's instruments list and observed that there aren't many solo instruments, and what there is has only 1 articulation. Also, string section appears to be either full string ensemble and the only violin ensemble has violins plus flutes combined. Bit difficult to do 4 part harmony me thinks? And if you do, it's going to be actually 4 full string ensembles each playing one line, versus violines/violas/cellos/basses each playing a line. Similarly, for woodwinds, it appears to be all played together. I think with OE, it may not be possible to set it up so that I can do double, triple or quad winds. Keep in mind that I have no experience with the above library, just what I gleaned from that linked pdf and I may be totally incorrect. Personally, I have EWQLSO.... and would suggest getting VSL SE as a base library as the vsl instruments do have true legato, and I have issues with noise etc on some ewqlso solo instruments. Pick your poison and make your music :3
  23. Sorry mickomoo, can't help you with that. Perhaps NS's Principles of Orchestration online could assist? Personally I'm going through Orchestration by Cecil Forsyth.
