Hah, wasn't expecting to find an old remix from the guy who's actually scoring DOOM these days. Keep on living the dream, Mick.

Leitmotif game music soundtracks
SlightlyOddGuy replied to SwordBreaker's topic in General Discussion
Sonic 3D Blast Saturn uses bits of its main vocal theme throughout almost the entire soundtrack. -
Yes, yes it does.

This is an issue with your keyboard, not the game.

Magus bases his take on the Mega Man universe off of Maelgrim's version, but there are a lot of differences in the details and the quality of Magus's writing isn't as good until his later fics. Regardless, their works (and Erico's) come highly recommended.

The Rocket Arm is hidden where it always is, but the method of access has changed since Rush Search is out. Proto Man's locations are all the same as well, so I'm not sure why he wouldn't be showing up. The passwords don't save his encounters, just the shield, so that might be part of it.
-
Both the Rocket Arm and Proto Man fight/shield are in the game, I assure you.

No opening stage, no Robot Museum. Aside from that the game is a near-perfect recreation, but with the superior speed and physics of the NES titles. I'll never be able to go back to the original, myself.

Sonic & The Black Knight coming for the Wii
SlightlyOddGuy replied to JCvgluvr's topic in General Discussion
I see the internet still immediately goes into denial every time a Sonic game is announced. It isn't fake. There's no one within the Sonic community capable of or willing to do that kind of professional render, and no one outside of it gives enough of a damn to bother because Sega is quite capable of coming up with ludicrous concepts on their own. They're trying to use jpeg artifacting as evidence of photoshopping. Never mind the absurdity of a Sonic/Fire Emblem crossover. -
Sonic & The Black Knight coming for the Wii

Probably Secret Rings 2. Bizarre, but no more ludicrous than any of the other concepts Sega has put the series through in recent years. -
That's the funny thing about it. We got stomped on parts 1 and 2, and it wasn't until you (and...Bahamut, I think) switched over that it started feeling even. And then the whole team just suddenly started slaughtering everything that moved for a few minutes. Your ping issue is strange but not surprising, given Source's tendency to produce inexplicable bugs for no apparent reason. As for maps, I'll throw in another vote for Gravel Pit. If custom maps are an option, ctf_casbah is good fun.

You are welcome to continue reading my mind if it means you keep catering to my whims and desires. Likewise, I keep hearing good things about it, but ever since I suddenly found myself employed, I haven't had the time to go trawling through TF2 maps as much as I'd like to. As for the medic story, well, that's why I make a point of trying to uber the guys near the top of the scoreboard. ;p

Which is unusual, since my lives as a pyro usually end with lots of people on fire and no one dead but me. This was the first night I've played since the pyro pack came out though, so the removal of damage falloff might've been enough to tip my playstyle from "not quite effective" over to "useful". I also won't discount the possibility that I was just on a lucky streak. Or it's just a matter of the NeoGAF TF2 regulars that I'm used to playing with being a bit more...competitive. Actually, looking at the stats, my k:d ratio with you is 1:1, so I couldn't have been torching you too badly.

I can't envision any scenario in which an upcoming id or id partner game wouldn't use Tech 5. The exception is the next Wolfenstein, but only because it's been in development for ages now.

I don't think you realize that this is the Sonic hacking community doing the work. Simply put, the coding is less a matter of capability and more a matter of just getting it done. Getting all of the graphics done is the real obstacle.

1up has a pretty good overview of the situation. Other Gamespot editors have chimed in as much as they are able. The situation appears to be that new CNET/Gamespot management cares more about money than any kind of journalistic integrity and sacked Gerstmann to set an example for the rest of the editorial staff.

Guxt - Vertical Shmup from the Maker of Cave Story
SlightlyOddGuy replied to DarkeSword's topic in General Discussion
Guxt is fun while it lasts, which is basically up until you beat the score attack mode once. It really needs more levels. I'd much sooner suggest Tyrian 2000 for a free PC shmup fix. -
This is Sony following the iPod business model. Kutaragi talked about it a year ago, and everyone shrugged it off as more Krazy Ken madness. Apparently, it's turned out to be corporate policy.

It's worth noting that Iizuka was the lead game designer for the original NiGHTS, so it isn't like he's entirely clueless about what made it great. As long as they don't deviate from the formula or atmosphere much, this could very well be great.

SSR is pretty much that kind of game already. You get all of the standard high speeds of a Sonic title, but thanks to the quasi-on rails gameplay, the camera and level design can focus more on making it look impressive without throwing the player into a wall or bottomless pit.
