  1. I don't know who you are Nekofrog, and you don't know who I am. But I am curious - what are you moving on to in life? What other things have your interest now? If it's personal stuff so be it. Best of luck, fellow human. ~Syllix
  2. Yes... a bit of a sad feeling overall... I know this may not be what you intended, but I can also see this music as being playing during a battle scene when the good guys are losing the battle to the enemy - I'm not sure what kind of style it is or if there's a specific name, but it's when everything is in slow motion, all of the sound effects from the guns, bombs going off, or if this was in older times, all the swords, shields and clashing of metal is silenced, everything in slow motion as you hear this piano piece play, and the onlooker, watcher, or listener knows that this is the end. I'd say even if these feelings or thoughts right now that your music has evoked for me was not the intention, I'd say you've done a fantastic job anyway - look what pictures you have painted in my head Look forward to more from you. ~Syllix
  3. Hey man I liked this one, super easy listening and enjoyable. I often enjoy music that is simple in nature - it's all about that melody or beat that can just capture your attention and put you in a different place. Nice work
  4. Pretty neat tune you got here man - kind of hybrid going into a more dancey / house beat near the end of the track. Keep it up
  5. Agreed. <---- don't think I'm ever going to use this smiley so I'm taking that opportunity now.
  6. I don't understand why people would follow others and drop them after... I mean, I follow people for a reason. Why would I waste my time going through my SoundCloud and looking through all the people I followed to make sure they are still following me, or that I still like the stuff they make? If I follow someone it's because I like their stuff and I want to support them.... I won't ever drop them. We as humans are so focused on numbers - they stick out like a sore thumb. 23 is better than 18 so when we see that number rise it makes us feel good, but tbh it's not really worth anything if the person who followed you hasn't even listened to one of your tracks. Agh... I'm already wasting too much time on this thought. I need to get back to what matters - sitting at a desk staring at a computer for 8.5 hours wasting my life away, so I can go back home and sit at MY desk and get frustrated at NOT making music because I've already stared at a computer screen for so long. Now this is getting off the topic. Hitting Submit Reply...
  7. Air3s (SonicThHedgog for them young whippersnappers who don't know) you son of a gun! You've gained like 300 followers in like 3 days! What nefarious activities were you involved in that has yielded such results?
  8. Hey Douli, I had an idea about a fun competition involving field recording, recording audio, etc. - The idea is "Use 3 items only to make a 1 minute song" - So for example, I have an idea to make a little song out of a coffee mug, my toothbrush, and a duck quack I managed to capture while walking near a marsh. You can use any sounds made from those items, so for example the mug, you can slap the side of it, or turning it upside down and hitting it with your knuckle, etc. Then you get creative in your DAW, stretch the samples out, now you have a drone sound, be creative, etc. What are your thoughts?

    Cheers,

    ~Syllix

  9. Yeaahhh I wasn't considering getting this, that was until Diablo 3 started to piss me off, and Blizzard in general. I will most likely be picking this torchlight 2 up instead of D3 now. This man needs to finish Skyrim first!!
  10. My soundcloud is currently half original compositions, and half Sonic the Hedgehog music that I remastered. This is a great thread! More music to listen to while I work! http://www.soundcloud.com/syllix - (Also in sig...) If you like, please follow me Cheers
  11. I respect your opinion but I really think you should consider otherwise your thoughts on the importance of production quality. I am in no way skilled at playing drums or the cello or the harp, but I recognize the importance of understanding how those instruments work so that when I compose I know how they should be used properly. Similarly, you should understand where the string and brass sections should go, how many of each are playing in the room. What about panning? You're not going to leave everything in the middle. Sorry mate, not trying to harp on you or anything, but I think you should keep an open mind when it comes to production quality, mixing, and mastering. Sometimes, the quality sound of a single instrument or soft synth playing has more of an impact for me than 20 of them that sound like they've been dragged through the mud for a week. Anyway back to the music - you definitely seem to have the composition part down pat, and I enjoyed the listen. To be honest I didn't really picture your ruins and overgrown vines with this music - but the feeling, thoughts and emotions will be different for everyone. I say to you, grand work, keep it up, exercise that mind of yours and continue to create my friend. Regards, ~Syllix
  12. If you were born 20 years earlier - you'd probably be working for nintendo. Yup.
  13. Hey Ecto, I haven't had a chance yet to use FL Studio so I'm sorry I don't have the answer to your question. I did do a quick search though and maybe your question will be answered here: http://audio.tutsplus.com/tutorials/production/a-guide-to-freezing-and-bouncing-in-fl-studio/ I tried to explain as much as I could in the tutorial without it going over 15 minutes - I didn't want to get into too much detail because people of all different skill levels may end up watching the video. At the very least they can comment and I'll be sure to answer as many questions as I can, otherwise there are tons of other tutorials out there that show the very basics of things. I had that in mind that I simply cannot explain everything in one video, although I wish I could! I'll be making more tutorials in the future though. As long as somebody out there can take away something from this video then I guess it's served its purpose Thanks for the kind words though.
  14. Hey guys, I made a tutorial on how to go about sampling your own synths and then making them sound glitchy. This video shows you how you can use those samples as either filler elements to your tracks or to help create interesting melodic rhythm. You can apply this technique and use it for any audio files you have in your songs. Use it for synths, drums, anything. Be creative, experiment, and have fun Hope this helps some of you guys out there and hopefully I explain everything alright. If something isn't clear, please comment on the video and I will be happy to answer your questions. Cheers! ~Syllix Edit: Taking a look at the other tutorials, they are more general and seem much better suited to have a sturdy footprint in the guide and tutorials section than this tutorial (I think overall they are more helpful to users than this is). This tutorial is very focused and for a specific DAW, so maybe it does not belong here and should be moved to the main forum where it will eventually get moved down the line and make room for other important content. To the mods - please PM me with your thoughts on where this should go, and then I will remove this edit text afterwords. Thanks.
  15. If this is your first take at a dubstep track, it's pretty good. You definitely had some good variation and I liked the melodies playing to assist the bass. I'm only listening on $9 headphones at work, so I can't tell if you need more lower freq or not. I think your snare could be a little longer or could use a longer reverb tail, or a diff type of reverb. I also think you could bring your hi-hats out a bit and add some variation to them at diff points in the song. Ummm what else... overall, I would say your bassline is good, but to me seemed pretty "clean" compared to most dubstep tunes I've listened too, but then again, maybe you didn't really want something dirty. I like how you worked in some little glitchy / sampling elements in the middle too. I don't really listen to dubstep but I enjoy a good tune here or there, so not much else I can give you in terms of feedback. Hope this helped, but you're looking pretty good so far dude. Cheers, ~Syllix
  16. Hey bro you showed me some love for my track so I'm gonna return the favour. I like the melodies going on, and the switch to the more downtempo / chill feeling near the end is pretty cool. I would say your track could use some more energy though, namely where your percussion / kick and snare parts come in and go out. I would like to see you build up to certain parts with some white noise sweeps, perhaps with some other melodic elements to aid as well. Similar for when you're about to drop the percussion, maybe a nice little sweep up before you drop it would create a little more energy / flow, if you know what I'm saying. Other than that, pretty nice - didn't have any complaints production-wise. Keep it up man. ~Syllix
  17. Bloody hell. This was interesting man! Loved the little plucky harp arpeggios. You still looking for a bassist? My roommate is a bassist in a band, knows his way around recording and in Logic Pro too - If you're interested I could ask him to contact you - you tell him what to play and he can record it and send forth, by the powers of the internet, a nice mp3 or wav file of what you're looking for. Jaa?
  18. I am also a big fan of Symphony of Science. This may not be known by many people, but this guy also has another website for a side project under the name Colorpulse. Check it out http://colorpulsemusic.com/ Cheers ~Syllix
  19. wow... this got me pumped to go out bike riding, so im gonna make this short! great energy, great feel, i didnt have any complaints production-wise so I say keep em coming man. My only guff was with your label on soundcloud - I wouldn't call this chillout - it was quite the opposite tbh... more dancey and pick-me-up if u know what i mean. Cheers, ~Syllix
  20. This may be a reaaalllly dumb question, but in all honesty I searched Google and could NOT find the answer on what I would think would be simple and straight forward question. I have Skyrim on the PC - how the heck do I update it to the latest version (it's 1.4 or something right?) I can't figure how to do it on Steam, and Google wasn't any help... Am I that pathetic or is there something more to going about this? Thanks guys! Still haven't beaten the main quest yet.. argh! Need more free time for Skyrim! Cheers, ~Syllix
  21. hey man im just curious if you're the same hoopy frood who made the song "haze." I have a very large list of chillout music with the names of the artists and their songs I like that I hear on di.fm. I couldn't find where to listen to that song again but if it's on my list, it must have been good. Just wondering if you're the same guy - if so, that's just awesome, and where can I find your latest tracks?

    Cheers from Canada,

    ~Syllix

  22. Hey guys, Right, so I'm excited because I've just released my 4th original track! I was experimenting with sampling synths in Logic Pro and eventually carved it into this neat little track. Feedback, criticism, etc. is most welcome - I hope you enjoy it and thanks for taking the time to listen! ~Syllix
  23. I would love to listen to your song but.... there is nothing here. I feel bad when you wake up and all you read is my crummy comment and realize........
