  1. I just found this tutorial, and found it pretty awesome (especially since he's literally using the same DAW and version as me).
  2. Not to argue, but the studio that was done in carpet actually looked really nice, because he took a tone that matched his wood shelves and put it neatly on the walls rather than ragtag.
  3. I don't know if this will help you or if other artists can corroborate, but someone I know went to home depot and instead of acoustic foam bought the cheapest carpet he could find - like 60 cents a square foot - and did his whole studio with it. It was cheap as hell, easy to install, and sounded great. Just something to think about. A space that small would cost nothing.
  4. I can no longer be blamed for delay! All 3 of my tracks are done.
  5. Biiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrttttttttttthhhhhhhhddddddddddaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. oh yeah sure https://www.box.com/s/cw3u5wnfyig08toi7jwn this is with my "improved" kick - might have to fast forward a bit to hear
  7. I don't have any loops, but I'm going for the dream theater sound http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STXFFYcuhuw the advice so far has already vastly improved my kick drum, thanks
  8. Yeah, I know. Thanks. It's been a rough learning curve for me lately and I've been getting a little frustrated. Thanks to everyone for the responses, I'm going to go back and play with this stuff and see if I can't get something good.
  9. I got studio drummer with Komplete 8 and I'm looking for a preset that will help me turn it into a great prog-metal kit. Right now it all kind of sounds like a really nice rock kit, but I need everything to have that metal punch/snappiness to it. I'm not an expert when it comes to editing samples, so I would only waste my time if I tried to do it myself.
  10. I use a cast-iron pan on my stove, but there are other ways to do it. I'm sure if you youtube it there are plenty of solutions.

  11. FF6, the ending theme, when Uematsu blends Locke's and Celes' themes. That makes me tear up damn near ever time I hear it.
  12. I don't know that there are many Farmboy remixes out there...you can use mine if you're man enough for the bluegrass.
  13. I got your Cid right here. https://soundcloud.com/xprtnovice/cid Yes, it's only 29 seconds.
  14. hrrmmm...normally I'd jump all over this, but I'm like 6 tracks deep in commitments right now.
  15. Well since we're being guilty. Pros: Easily recognizeable (I like tunes that stick to the source) good groove and timing the organ solo Cons: The wavy panning of the piano in the beginning is a little jarring. The way you hit grace notes very frequently on the piano starts to sound more like wrong notes, if you know what I mean. It's every other note in some places. Those expressive moments are to be used sparingly. The arrangement is pretty straight. It feels mostly like a cover and not a remix, because I don't hear a lot that was changed. Hope this helps!
  16. This. I've done way too much music work lately and not enough of everything else in my life...
  17. Not to toot my own horn (bada BOOM) but I think the sax could be a touch louder, and with a little less up-front reverb. The wet mix makes it sound like I'm holding notes for longer than I am, rather than adding depth. But I don't have a very good ear for this kind of stuff so I could be just stupid.
  18. I thoroughly enjoy sharing WIPs, particularly because I'm primarily a musician and not a sound engineer. I love the learning element of it, and the communal element of trading music. Since music isn't a source of income for me even a little - and in the times when it has been, it's had nothing to do with my compositions - I'm not really worried about my music being stolen by Coldplay and them making a CD out of it. Besides, as Rozo said, if they did and I could prove that it was my intellectual propety, I'd get some money out of it anyway. As far as not posting my best work...I consider the "audience" to be the greater community, not the WIP forums. The people who frequent the WIP forums are there for that purpose, so they're not there to judge you based on something you did in two hours and want some feedback on your composition for, you know?
  19. I think a capella would be fine - I actually have some plans in the works to do one myself, having been an arranger, singer, and vocal percussionist for an a capella group in college. This site's standards are about quality, not category.
