  1. Same here, I figured how to make HiHat/maracas even more maraca-ey and now it's all pretty much done.
  2. I do admit the synths are still a little generic, but I think I generally improved the mixing and arrangement, as well as doing some fun stuff along the way.
  3. I think besides when you have the chippy stuff, it's a little tough to define the song, and is that the original theme sampled into the song? I think you could get creative with that, and stray from the original sixteenth notes for some variety. Since it's a WIP I'll wait for the full arrangement to criticize structure and such. I do like the sounds you use for percussion I'll just have to wait until the finished version is out to fully crit!
  4. Oh jeez! Now I have to transpose all my parts augh Why didn't you warn meeeeeeeee
  5. Tell me about it I only wish I had the money for EQWLSO, but that stuff is expensive :C
  6. This is really cool, actually! I could see this being extremely awesome if you got some more realistic sounds! Woo, I like this! It is rather short, though, but that can be fixed with proper arrangement.
  7. What is seriously the matter with you. Why wouldn't you WANT see Nic Cage?
  8. Oh whoops I thought the OP said WAV for awhile. GOOD THING YOU CAUGHT THAT!
  9. Welp couldn't find a good free VST/soundfont so I just re-purposed one of my higher-end hi-hat sounds to be raspier. I think I've done good, so my song is essentially complete with 3:53. I'm not sending in the WAV until Saturday at 11:59 though just in case
  10. It's cylindrical and is held sideways, parallel to the body, commonly used to keep a 4/4 rhythm. The conductor of my schools Jazz Ensemble uses it in performances, but the name escapes me. I suppose maracas could do.
  11. PRODUCTION [X] Low-quality samples [X] Generic/cliche sound choices STRUCTURE [X] Not enough changes in sounds (eg. static texture, not dynamic enough) [X] Too repetitive + = Positive comment - = Negative comment +It's very interesting to see this in a different light than the jazzy source, and I love the solo piano that comes in. I am definitely liking this song a lot. +I also love the vibrato you put on the pads. -The rhythm can get repetitive at times. -I don't like the clapping sounds you use. They seem kinda empty compared to your rhythms. Add some rhythm or give them more defined rhythm with the...well, rhythm. -On the same note, I don't like your kick at all. It's all punch, no sub, and it barely feels real. -It seemed very run of the mill techno, add some personal zazz to it. Now, I didn't not like it. No, that is not the case at all. I liked it indeed, but it needs humanization and personality, some feeling. This all sounds like a big bunch of nit-picky comments, but it just needs to interest me more.
  12. shameless advertisement. seriously? well, in that case, i'm gonna have to listen and give a clear and honest opinion
  13. Aight, well I'm pretty much done. All I'm trying to do is find a soundfont for those shaker things they use in jazz combos (could anyone help me out on the name, I seriously am drawing a blank) and I think I'm done. The mixing is pretty much done with and it's almost completely mastered.
  14. I'm feelin the same thing on the synths, I want to keep it chippy and I'm working on a way to incorporate more layers. The discordant chords I feel give the song a thin layer of jazz to it, which is kinda what I'm tryin to do with the easy-listening part. Not too structurally limited, but still nice sounding. (Also I love having seconds in chords) And yes, I believe I have 2 drum patterns in there, haha
  15. An easy-listening chippy (easy-chip?) remix of my favorite Pokemon song, Goldenrod City Still accepting criticism! In about a week I'm going to do mod review, but I definitely need criticisms to get me ready! Come on guys!
  16. I have a completely different motivation now.
  17. I loved it up until :14. Then it sounded kinda generic and void. Keep the cello(?) doing whole notes then for good balance. As you said, you haven't done anything with reverb or velocity yet, so I cannot really comment much further beyond that. I will save comments for a lengthened arrangement and/or a mixed track.
  18. Spring Yard with it's grace notes, and Hilltop with it's trills, I just got done with the arrangement for the most part and I like what I got out of it. Better get your game on Phonetic, I'M MUNCHIN' ON PANCAKES NEXT SATURDAY >
  19. Actually, when I saw someone chose "Hilltop", I immediately thought "hope I don't have to go against that guy". Then I saw we were in the same bracket and thought "really hope I don't have to go against that guy". Then I saw we were the first round match-up and I threw my head at the the desk. But yes, let the loins of competition give birth to odd love-children of themes!
  20. Phonetic Hero, prepare to become a Phonetic ZERO!
  21. Haha don't worry, it's a fairly easy-listening chip song.
