  1. Hm, good point. Although, the Ouya is using a mobile OS, so there might be a way to leverage that to target the younger crowd.
  2. Yep, Ouya's success is entirely contingent on whether they have the necessary marketing power and even if they do whether the potential market is even big enough to sustain it. Fortunately whether the device actually succeeds is largely irrelevant to my interest in it. Being easily hackable means that even after it dies it will still live on as a zombie console sustained by mad scientist devs. These don't happen to be the same people who complain they haven't touched their Wii since they beat the last Zelda/Mario game? But yes, the big guys definitely have significant installed hardcore fanbases who will deal with crappy launches titles because they know their favorite series will be on the console. I don't know if I'm convinced they're where the majority of profit comes from though, especially if they only get a few other games as you say. Still, it will definitely be much harder for Ouya without some sort of killer app.
  3. The same reason you'd buy any console. Obviously no one except the most hardcore fanboy is going to buy a 360 or PS3 for a single game, but the expectation is that more stuff like Mercenary Kings is going to come out for Ouya and make the purchase worthwhile. Also notice that they haven't announced an Xbox release yet so currently Ouya is the only way to get it on console.
  4. Man I can feel my IQ dropping already... Edit: I can't stop watching that dog tank GIF...
  5. Pfff, noobs. Master Chief would slaughter them both with his hands tied behind his back.
  6. QFFT I feel like we've run the entire gamut of GameFAQs wars at this point. Someone wanna bring up Cloud vs Link?
  7. LOL @ people who become game programmers to get rich. Seriously who does that.
  8. From now on I'm blaming Prot for every security breach ever.
  9. Man, now I really want one, but there's no way I'm giving up my Zelda edition.
  10. Voted! Although I had to vote for that Matias guy too because his fits pretty much perfectly.

  12. Bingo. Ouya simply wants a piece of the pie. It doesn't even matter if it's literally a clone of something else in different packaging. As zircon pointed out, Pepsi and Coke are sold side by side in stores.
  13. Aside from the practicality and price reasons I already mentioned, another reason it's silly to say that the Ouya offers nothing over a cheap computer is that the same could be said for ANY console. Why do people buy consoles at all when a $100 processor and $50 graphics card lets you play Assassin's Creed, Darksiders, Skyrim, Gears of War, etc. on your computer, and a computer does so much more on top of that? And honestly even that's moot. Again, why does the PS3 even exist? What does it offer over the Xbox 360?
  14. I left because I was in Missouri touring caves. Something that just came to mind is that I've noticed a lot of games that have been updated to support Sony's Xperia Play, i.e. controller input. Many even support hacks like Wiimote and SixAxis. Users who actually use these devices are probably less than 1% of the Android ecosystem as a whole, yet devs are going ahead and adding support, in the hopes that it'll add that extra tiny bit to their sales or downloads. This leads me to believe that it's not as huge a deal as some are making it out to be.
  15. http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?t=12261 I am excite.
  16. I...I don't understand. :'[ Maybe CD sales weren't strong enough last time? Hopefully we'll get a few bootlegs...
  17. So much Homestuck at GenCon.
  18. Yeah, I personally doubt they have the marketing resources to make this thing go anywhere. It took Microsoft an entire generation before they finally started actually making money, and freakin' SEGA had to drop out the race altogether. However, the fact that the console is open means that development can continue regardless of whether it's officially supported or not. Heck, the NES is getting a Cheetahmen II port.
  19. Dunno, I'm definitely thinking about it now that TWEWY is out for it... Well, FF III was just an example. The existence of Ouya would hopefully be motivation for similar ports that support HD and physical controllers across the board. Yeah, but just that's the normal trade-off between any console and a phone. And often when there's a game for both console and mobile people end up buying both versions because the app is like $3.
  20. My point is there is a reason to buy it. People pay extra all the time for apps optimized for tablets when they could've gotten the same thing for their phone. In fact, there are tablet apps that aren't even available for phones, e.g. Sword & Sworcery, Spacechem, Uplink, etc.
  21. So where else can you get an HD version of Final Fantasy III without an annoying on-screen controller?
  22. Is there actually something better a dev can do with his time between projects? It might be only a couple dollars here and there, and it's better than the nothing he's earning while he's developing his next project. I think that's worth a few hours that he probably would've just used to play LoL anyway. And it's not just about the money either; often the exposure and feedback is just as, if not more, valuable. I mean, heck, OCR is entirely being supported and sustained by people who don't get paid at ALL.
