  1. Hmm... You know what?...I actually prefer the faster fade in and harder ending that the first version had. It may be because the song is kind of straightforward and simple - and I mean that in an entirely good way. The bass fills up the scene but never gets old, and the melody is interesting enough that the song can sound fresh and creative even with a slow, basic beat. The way the first version got right into it and then stopped abruptly at the end (with no reverb, I mean) worked real well for the song's components, I think.
  2. My experience with Bugdom is limited to about 30-40 seconds at a demo setup in a store somewhere... so unfortunately I can't say I have first hand nostalgia for this track, but you still get a Exploding fist bump for obscure games!!! It's fun to see lesser known titles get attention. Looks like Bugdom had an awesome soundtrack. You did a great job of capturing the essence of the original while also expanding on it in subtle, effective ways.
  3. Thanks! I had no idea where this one was gonna go when I started out on it. At first it was just a simple recreation of the original, then the jazz idea just sort of took over once I had the piano doing the melody. I think I may try doing another version of this song that stays in the smoother theme it has towards the beginning, just 'cause that part was so fun.
  4. Same here, I'm not a fan of metal, but this is very nicely done. I'm not too experienced with mastering or production yet, but nothing stood out to me as a problem. Maybe some more activity in the drums? Listening to it again, I can tell the drums are actually doing a ton, but I'm having a little trouble hearing them... maybe bring up the bass kick a little with an EQ? Overall, it sounds great, I hope there's more on the way! And welcome!
  5. 7 seconds in: "There's orchestra..... and chip sounds? That's...........That's incredible! This is amazing!" Okay okay, now that I've actually listened to it for reals: This is fantastic. Not only is the unusual combination of instruments used very effectively, the new approaches used on the source melodies are really fun and creative. When songs get recreated this well it makes me hope that somehow somebody over at Nintendo discovers it and shows it to Kondo over breakfast one morning and tells him "Man, look what somebody did with your stuff! I thought this was so cool!" The people who create these legendary pieces of music -compared to fan remixers- have a relatively limited opportunity to re-imagine and re-reveal their own work to us players, as the primary way we see their work is in the form of the games themselves which contain them. I hope they see things like this, enjoy the new angles and directions people explore with their songs, and get an idea of how much we enjoy their music.
  6. I suspect my remixing agenda holds much more Kirby. Just so many fun songs to choose from! Here's my second remix from Super Star. remix - http://soundcloud.com/skolarstar/get-moving-kirby source -
  7. What a fun remix! I'm sure this is said anytime the game is brought up, but Hero music certainly does need more love. Excellent job!
  8. Yep. No getting around it. This is definitely amazing. I checked the official, high-tech thing on my computer that lights up and tells me when stuff is definitely and undeniably awesome, and it thinks so, too.
  9. Very nice! The Prime games - especially the first one - are so atmospheric and memorable. The track from Phendrana Drifts is so very much itself. When the song started, I thought to myself "Okay, this is either going to absolutely sound like Phendrana, or absolutely not sound like it at all." You captured the mood and feel of that song extremely well, and it was probably because of all kinds of tiny things I shouldn't pretend to be able to recognize, so I won't try. But you did a really good job. 1:05 - I don't know how you did it, but that piano is perfect.
  10. Thank you very much! The fade out is just because I'm planning to make it longer, and haven't come up with a real ending for it yet.
  11. This is just too darn cool. I think in the past, this is exactly the type of thing that I'd hoped people would be doing in the future. "Sweet remix of an obscure, awesome, 3 second loop from a Nintendo game you didn't have any reason to believe anybody else would give a second thought to? Oh yeah, we gotcha covered."
  12. Thanks, I'm glad you like it! It was fun to make. The drums' tone is pretty low. You think a higher, more natural sounding pitch would work better? I was going for "big impact" (which is something I've experimented with very little) with those, maybe they have too much now. Right off the top of my head I think the next parts I'll be focusing on is getting a deeper, fuller sound to accompany the NES theme's section toward the end, and I'll work with the low drums a little. If you noticed them then they must be distracting on some level. Good thing to know!
  13. Yeah, the drums are a little buried. At the same time, I think that fact might be part of what's giving this song its fluffy, expansive feel. Almost like the drums decided to start doing their thing behind an already-finished arrangement. I don't know the first technical thing about mastering and production right now, but I just thought that while listening.
  14. Or more accurately, "Super Metroid Prologue and Ending Themes with also the NES Metroid Ending Theme in there for good measure." Remix on SoundCloud Sources on YouTube: Let me know any thoughts!
  15. The world will never have too many remixes of this song. Nice work! You're right, better drums and a real sax would be cool, but what's here is good.
  16. Another one! Very good! The softer sound that you've given the whole thing in general is very nice for the song's style. I'll have to confess I've never beaten Sonic 3 myself, but your remix sounds more like "credits music" to me than the original. You're good at having a lot of noise going on in the song all at once yet keeping it pleasant to listen to. That's impressive. Keep it up, I wanna hear more! I really dig your style.
  17. This rings true with the way I've been trying to approach stuff lately. Very inspirational advice!
  18. I thought I'd take a crack at this one. Here's the post of my very-definitely-still-working-on-it remix of it over in the workshop. http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?p=889589#post889589
  19. A remix of the Bomberman 64 opening theme that I've gotten started on. I saw it had been requested, so I thought I'd take a shot at it. remix- http://soundcloud.com/skolarstar/bomberman-64-opening-remix source - Feedback of any kind is more than welcome.
  20. An orchestral-ish rendition of the music from Kirby Super Star's "Beginner's Show." Remix- http://soundcloud.com/skolarstar/shall-we-explain Source - Just got started with this one, any feedback is welcome.
  21. I hear some StarGate in there, too. Fantastic, as always.
  22. You know, I actually think the imperfect mix between the drums and bass is kind of fun. Even if you decide to fix it, it'd be cool to have a section of the song that sounds like that.
  23. I really like this remix, man. I'm a huge fan of Kirby music. Your remix retains the "Kirby music" feel to it, which is fun. Entirely changing up the sound and character of a song is cool, but it's also nice to have a remix that's just "This song but different" or "This song but more." It resembles the original track closely, but in a very good way.
  24. The link takes me to "removed video" and doesn't even show your profile. Does the link need to be changed?
  25. EDIT: Newer version: http://soundcloud.com/skolarstar/draw-a-big-mushroom-v2 --- Alright good ol' OCR, here goes! I've been working with Logic Pro 9 for a while and I'm absolutely positive that I have no clue what I'm doing. Having said that, here's a remix I made! It's still very much in its beginning stages of everything, but I figured I'd go ahead and jump on in and start getting feedback from people who actually know what they're talking about, rather than fake my way through polishing it up on my own. My take on the "Special World 8" music from Super Mario 3D Land, also known as the "Draw Mario" song. http://soundcloud.com/skolarstar/draw-a-big-mushroom Comments and criticism of any kind is welcome, I'm totally new to this.
