Electro-Swing! Electro-Swing! Electro-Swing! That opening...I can't help but see the needle drop on one of those old wind up gramophone record players, it just sounds so much like it's spinning, as matter of fact I feel like I'm spinning while I listen to this track and that guitar is the channeled spirit of Django Reinhardt, everything that is old is emulated perfectly and everything that is new is on point! I enjoyed dropping in on Felxstyle's twitch sessions when he was mixing this and I've been waiting for this one....must...resist....urge to...Charleston....

Is that a serious thing that you'll come to someone's house in a dog costume and play music from Animal Crossing? Cause if it's not true I'll see you in court

Until recently, I never really payed much attention to the under comments/reviews when I listen to the mixes or read the write ups, mostly because I feel like I can't offer anything other than a thumbs up or down, but if you insist!

If there was ever an artist on here who can put a smile on my face it's worldsbestgrandpa. I know this sounds hokey, but when I hear these remixes I feel like I'm sitting right next to worldsbestgrandpa, in a basement or on a street corner, just listening in with a huge grin on my face. The music just seems so welcoming, it's probably just the nature of the accordion....I really can describe it. I'm just a huge fan of immersive music and I hope worldsbestgrandpa sticks around!!!

So it looks like this is the wrap-up of the wrap-up. So as this was my first Remix Gauntlet and I just want to reiterate how much fun it was working within a time frame! My only grip is also my favorite aspect of the RG. On the one hand It seems there is a natural pairing of skill level and ability and the heavy hitters pair up together and tend to dominate, while the newer or less versatile remixers, who are still finding their voice, tend to pair up and have a more difficult time standing on two feet, especially when everyone is on their best game. On the other hand I, love toeing it with the Titans of OCR, stand and deliver, firing line....eighth level Mario Bros. !!!! I realize that these compose were around long before me, but If there is a suggestion box somewhere I'd ask if there was a way to have independent floating champions that kind of rotate from one team to another offering helping to those who need it or just adding that little extra zest to those who are more confident, allowing the more nascent remixers to glean some wisdom from the pros. Or maybe randomized teams? IDK, I still had a lot fun and am surprised at what I was able to concoct in realtime. As for an Album project, if there were any of my tracks that piqued any ears, let me know and I'll have another look at them and tinker and toy.

PS Are there any plans for another Remix Gauntlet, if so I can certainly give a preemptive "Yes" to any sign-ups

Nay! Heretics all of them  ! Reason is the one true DAW!  People love what DAW works for them, but the key is what DAW works for you. And to figure that out, you've got to work with the different DAWs. I enjoy Reason, because it's easy to see exactly where all your routing is going and ,if you're new, it eases you in nicely, but at the same time can be very deep once you know what you're doing. Propellerhead will put you in a headlock with only being able to buy VST through them, but I have yet to run into any VST that I just had to have, but couldn't get through Propellerhead. FL studio seems to be the gold standard, but since you've got a Mac, Image-Line hates you and keeps telling you there will be a Mac release...but...well yeah. If you've got live instruments and you're on a Mac, Logic seems to be the right call, cheap too. But I refer to my earlier statement, to find which DAW works for you, work with each DAW. Don't make any choice in a rush, I thought I'd like Cubase so I tried it for about 1 month then bought it and I'm not a huge fan. Also you're a student so Make sure you checkout those student discounts!!!

So, back during the SFRG I thought that we would be getting to remix more than 1 track, So I started remixing all my draft selection picks, it was only like week 2-3 that I came to realize I had to make 3 remixes of only 1 draft selection...sooooo I had all these WIPS of my top 5 choices and short-story-long I made more remixes than I was required to do so....and here's one of them

I want to congratulate them for their enormous effort and people who suffered were there but never gave up it makes me happy, as Mr. Shariq "DarkeSword" Ansari says "In this competition there are only winners," this has been comment will thank me for reading

So I guess this is the postmortem, well I don't have much to add, other than some personal observations and feedback. I guess these larger community compos are a great tool for focusing one's energy on a given task. At first I really wasn't too keen on Toxic Seahorse, I 'm still  on the fence if the source material is a necessary component of good remixing ( will a track that appeals to you vs one that doesn't yield a better or worse track?), but the name of the game is resilience and improvisation in a timely manner and I'm mostly satisfied with what I pulled out of the source material. I feel that my tracks were underdeveloped, great starts or maybe chucks where I have an idea, but fail to be unified in a cohesive song.....real song composition, a good finished song, not great ideas strapped together. As for the the competition part of the competition, I wish there was a way to marry together the desire to win with the desire to learn production techniques. For me a big block was trying to incorporate suggestions from my teammates into my track...it was hard and (I'm not sure it this is totally accurate) but I feel like if I had the same DAW as my teammate I could have utilized their suggestions better or at least gleaned some production techniques from them, like really sharing ideas, but it felt hard to do that going from FL or Logic to Reason, I still have very little idea how to fully utilize my workstation   and having someone who can fill the role of teacher and teammate ( with regards to the tools they use and how work with) to guide me along, while helping bring together the artistic side of music production with the technical part of it and would have really helped me matriculate to a high level of music production. Other than that, I loved toeing it with the heavyweights of OCR, while my teammates cheer me on, those rounds that got me feeling like a Rocky v Apollo I'll be remembering those for a while. I want to thank my team Zero Treble and say way to be on the ball with the voting each week and It was great working with you, let's not lose touch after graduation.....

Yes actually you've helped me with that in the past timaeus  , but I like the public discourse where as one person might say the Kick is too loud or someone else says the kick is fine, but the synth needs less reverb and a third person might say the synth is fine but the kick is too loud. I general look for the points that arise most frequently, with regards to criticism, for sort of statistical approach to what should be addressed

For a quick analysis, and making the judging panel bearable,  i'm inclined to agree with these points but it bothers me that ReMixes have become so mathematical to begin with.  Percentages should not be used to determine if a remix is passable, familiarity should. Part of the fun of doing this OcReMixing thing is hearing how a ReMixer used the source in ways that you didn't notice the first dozen or so times you listened to it. Giving the source usage up right off the bat cheapens the effort you put into the remix and makes for a kind of guided discovery with the ultimate goal of requiring the listener to listen to the track less to get everything out of it.

This is also known as decreasing artistic worth.   Which I feel there is enough of already these days.

So HIDE SOME STUFF! ...and let's give the future OCRemix Analyzers, Biographers and Anthologists something to discover and write about.
