Music's done for WATER. Finished it last week. I wanted to be able to announce it's done at MAGFest.
What I need to do now is put together the visual identity for the albums. I'm considering redoing the artwork for WIND and coming up with a better look that I can use across the series.
Alright. Is it out of your system? That's the last time anyone gets to make that joke.

You should have banked on this project, 'cause it's too big to fail.

I'm so stoked to have placed in the top 3 with two entries during a MAGFest DoD. Even though numerical placements are basically meaningless. I remember at the listening party a lot of people were drunk and there were technical issues with the speakers and everything. But regardless I'm happy that I was able to make some music that people enjoyed. Seeing CarboHydroM rocking the fuck out during my entry was so amazing to me as someone who looked up to him as a guitar player and a remixer for years. Also hearing Snappleman say that my entry was rad made me super happy because he is usually pretty harsh. He didn't say "2/6"
Also the fact that with my other entry, we won first place with a straightforward cover just makes me happy. Straight covers usually don't do well in DoD because people like hearing heavily arranged stuff. But I still love remixes and covers of all kinds. We just happened to pick a tune that was crazy enough by default. DoD and OCR are very different things, and I think that is good. There's no reason people should be talking about which one is more valuable. DoD is a lot of fun and it's a good excuse to force yourself to get some remixes out there on a regular basis.
I think I'm going to take my entry over to the workshop, spruce it up a bit and then submit it to the OCR panel at some point.
Oh also @zykO fucking killed it with that Sonic 2 entry. I was dying laughing when I first heard it. You can never go wrong with adding Shizz memes to your DoD entry haha. That song was like the official theme of MAGFest for me. I wish it never ended

Now that the results of DoD are published, I'm looking for some feedback on this one before submitting it to the OCR panel, especially on the production side. Thanks!

It's today. 30 years ago, on February 21st, 1986, The Legend of Zelda came out in Japan, and it's been a good ride ever since.
The first of a years worth of video game birthdays, but certainly not the least.

Just don't let Ganon have all the cake!

I never really noticed this thread, but I've been streaming at least once a week recently (usually on Thursdays). Not playing games or music, but I've been writing code on my stream

So if anybody wants to watch some programming, check out my live coding stream once a week:
http://www.twitch.tv/sagnewshreds (I guess you'd put "programming" in the category parentheses for listing this one)
It's been a ton of fun and there's a surprisingly healthy audience for it that's been growing. I'll be streaming again this upcoming Thursday and I'll either be writing some JavaScript or working on some iOS stuff.

I see no problem with people releasing different albums for the same game. More music is always a good thing to me. I'll definitely check out that other album too.

Basically the ones off the top of my head were Legendary Beast (which I've been thinking about doing, but wouldn't be able to work on it for a couple of months), Breezy and Premonition. But maybe Premonition has too many borrowed themes from other tunes even though I think of it as its own thing. Come to think of it that really bluesy music from when you have to start a band about halfway through the game doesn't seem to be on the list either. Forget what that's called and I'm walking to work right now so I'll look it up later. But that would also be cool for someone to do.
But basically I agree with the idea of keeping the "required" list of songs to remix lower and letting people who want to hop on the project claim other tracks as well. Seems like a good way to keep the project manageable. I predict that it will eventually turn into pretty much doing the entire soundtrack though  You cannot escape!

Hmm I still see some pretty prime tracks on the OST that haven't been claimed for this album yet (and aren't even listed under Brandon's choices). Thinking of three in particular that I regularly listen to when I throw the FF8 soundtrack on.
Also Random Encounter kicks ass and I'm looking forward to seeing how that accordion remix turns out.
Edit: @Jackson Alexander Parodi I'm sorry to derail this convo but I just went through your YouTube channel and found some fucking GOLD:

Naww. I thought I did good allowing additional claims even though the original concept was pretty narrow. Remixing everything is a massive undertaking, though of course if it happens that'd be rad.
Right now everything is listed in spirit, but only people who really read the first post will know they're allowed to claim more, so it's almost like a barrier to not list them all so that we only get the most dedicated people.
    Does that make sense?
First half is full and second half is 98% full... we're in good shape!

Good day! My name is Jackson, and I'm an accordion player. If it is still available, then I would very much like to lay claim to Wounded.
To the Seas of Time album released last month, I contributed an arrangement of the Overture. Another example of my small ensemble work is this arrangement from Super Metroid. However, the lion's share (hehe) of my YouTube content is solo accordion, and that is the treatment that I think I would like to give to this particular Final Fantasy VIII piece. Recent examples of my solo accordion work are Pat Metheny's "Letter from Home", and the Metal Gear Solid Main Theme (based on Harry Gregson-Williams' arrangement from MGS2).
The pipe organ is one of my favorite instruments, and the accordion is more similar to the organ than it is different. Since I've started playing my accordion, I have tried to explore all those beautiful similarities. I think a solo accordion (or, perhaps, solo accordion with some additional instrumentation) would treat this piece very well. Only now in the past few hours, a bunch of ideas have been knocking around in my dome about good ways to approach it.
    Thanks!
