Just chiming in - no matter what Soule did, this game's soundtrack is a part of many folks' childhoods, and nothing changes that. However, deciding to participate in this project is one of those topics where, personally, I don't think there's a right or wrong answer. I've explained my personal reasoning, and how I conceive of art in the abstract, but I'm not offended if anyone finds it unpersuasive/disagrees. Key thing is that no one gets judged, either way, for their decision on this, or attempts to equate others' decisions to participate with a tacit endorsement of the behavior in question.

Hi Clement, we’re delighted you want to return! However, there’s a small hitch. The entire tracklist of the game is 72 tracks (including atmospherics, fanfares et al). We struggled to get it down to the number we have and still need to add 6 atmospheric tracks.
We’re a bit reticent to start reworking the list, especially so early on. Would you consider choosing one from the sources we’ve provided? If not, I guess we’ll just have to go ahead and include the menu screen. We can’t in our right minds turn down a claim from the ridiculously talented Clement Panchout!

Long time OCR member and album contribution veteran @Dj Mokram has officially joined the project, taking the Pyramid source.
It's really nice to see this album coming together with a mixture of old skool remixers and some of the newer contributors to the site. I've been lax with my weekly updates (mainly because I'm not entirely sure what day it is half the time) but I'd like to thank everyone who's joined the album project so far as well as those who have taken the time to just check out this thread. Let's see what the coming weeks bring!

    WEEK 1 UPDATE
The first week of the project has already passed and I've got to say; I'm pretty impressed with the uptake so far. It's no secret that the forums aren't quite as busy as they used to be, so having 6 claimed tracks (with a few more interested parties currently communicating via IM) is a huge confidence boost for us here at PLT HQ (that being @Drawn by Dai and myself).
We’ll be upping recruitment by actively reaching out to remixers on OCR and Discord, to try and fill out those gaps in the tracks; so if you’re reading this and are interested but shy about contributing, just drop us an IM. We’ll start chatting, it’s really that straightforward. Also, if you know somebody who might like to take part, please go ahead and point them here!

    REQUIRED: ENVIRONMENTAL FX DESIGNER
    Hi everybody,
This position is a part of the ongoing Paths Less Travelled Vol.2 thread which can be found HERE.
We’re writing this position in addition to the project thread proper; to draw attention to this specific role within it.
We’re covering the SNES game Secret of Evermore, which, for all its quirkiness and witty dialogue, deals with exploration and loneliness as its primary themes; and makes heavy use of natural sounds and environmental effects alongside more traditional music to drive home the feeling of being a stranger in a strange land.
To pay homage to this, and to make the ReMix album as true to its source as possible, we are searching for somebody to join us on the main board, whose role would be to create a number of atmospheric tracks (6-9), based entirely on ambient sound (eg rainforest, machinery) which can then be edited and used as ‘skits’ or mixed into and out of tracks on the album where required.
It’s an important role for the album, and the work needs to be executed skilfully and sensitively, as it may involve working with select other ReMixers on their tracks, in a minimal intro/outro format. Additionally, it creates a mood for the entire album. As such, we are only looking for people who have real-world experience in sound design.
As a ‘board’ member you will of course be invited and welcome to bring your own thoughts, ideas and suggestions to the table. We’ll of course submit to your experience in the field.
This isn’t a first come-first served position, sadly, and we’ll want some evidence of your prior work. Sorry it’s a bit of a serious thread. All the above having been said, we are really expletive excited to work with you. Just drop me or @Trism a message here or in our DMs and we’ll get right back to you asap!
Thanks for reading, folks. Stay well.

    - PROJECT CONCEPT -
Howdy folks, we’re back! Hot on the heels of the previous album, we’re raring to go at another. We’re doing Paths Less Travelled Volume 2!
For those who missed the first instalment, PLT is a series of albums paying homage to overlooked and underrated games from yesteryear. Whether it be from poor marketing, limited localisation or plain bad timing, we celebrate the gems that undeservedly missed the limelight.
Volume 1 covered a little-known game, originally available only in Asia & Europe, named Terranigma and was RELEASED in December 2019. The game we’ll be bringing to the forefront this time is:

Secret of Evermore is an RPG released on the SNES by Squaresoft on October 1, 1995. With gameplay and a menu system reminiscent to the hugely successful Secret of Mana, it featured real-time battles, ring-shaped displays, and the ability to switch control between characters. This is where similarities ended. Unlike its similarly-named cousin, Secret of Evermore is unique in that it is the only game developed by Squaresoft of America, a small studio beholden to the Japanese parent company. Secret of Evermore was their first and only title. It did not receive a release in Japan.  While the game was generally very well received by reviewers upon its release, it was criticised for not being even similar to Secret of Mana in story or art direction, an expectation likely exacerbated by their similar game titles.
Secret of Evermore is a curiously dark tale following a cinema-obsessed boy and his dog as they fight their way through a virtual world gone awry, filled with characters and locations from the neolithic era to the far future. Think The Goonies x Last Action Hero x Bill and Ted in 90’s RPG form. And the dog can shapeshift. You should play it.
This game also marks the debut of Jeremy Soule, who got the job straight out from composition studies on the back of a demo cassette. Jeremy has gone on to score and compose music for modern classics Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (amongst many, many others). His debut directly utilises environmental and ambient soundscapes to emphasise the feelings of loneliness and exploration. This technique was hardly ever implemented in gaming at the time; and was used to great effect alongside the more traditional music to be expected in an RPG; using the sound of nature to actively enhance an already atmospheric score.
Here is a link to the selected soundtrack. The track order has been randomised: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKu09f66XIaTvXnXFQUPFQvY0NoxjlcpL
And here’s a link to the midi files. Unfortunately they have slightly different titles: https://www.khinsider.com/midi/snes/secret-of-evermore

    - WHAT WE NEED -
    GENERAL ROLES
▪Arrangers/Remixers: This is where the bulk of the recognisable work will be. We need folks to claim tracks and conjure them into beautiful remixes.
▪Live Musicians: Performers who are experienced with any type of instrument and have a high-quality recording setup. We would like to get quality live performers on remixes in every instance where remixer's sample quality “isn’t quite there”. Put simply, there are Quality Control standard requirements for the official OCR stamp
▪Cover Artist: Speaks for itself, really. We need someone to create art for the album.

    - THE SPECIFICS -
Claiming & Auditioning: All remixers wishing to claim a track should PM me or comment on the thread about any they are interested in and we'll go from there. If you are not a posted remixer, please PM some of your completed work. It needn't be a remix, but something that demonstrates the quality of your skills. Once a track is claimed, a first deadline will be set that is reasonable. We're keeping it casual at the moment, stricter requirements will be implemented as the project progresses. While we want to do this right, there’s no pressure early on. However. If nothing is heard from you in a reasonable time after contact is attempted, you will be dropped from the project and your track will revert to ‘unclaimed’.
Genre Guidelines: There is no genre one should adhere to when remixing tracks for the album, A central theme in the album, as with the game, will be the use of environmental effects. You are NOT required to use any of that stuff in any way, but we WOULD like your blessing to allow us to implement some at the mixing stage. Now hold on! We very well may not, but if we do, it will be with soundscapes created specifically for the album; and used both sympathetically and subtly, to convey a greater sense of atmosphere to the album overall.
If you’ve got a specific idea for a track, by all means run it by us, We’re open to ideas.
Flexible Deadlines: Deadlines will be handled on a case-by-case basis at first, and based on the preference of the remixer, we're not trying to rush things here. Try to maintain contact with us, We know things are scary in the world at the moment. We’re really easy.

OC ReMix presents Paths Less Travelled: Terranigma!

    December 19, 2019
    Contact: press@ocremix.org

FAIRFAX, VA... OverClocked ReMix today released its 72nd free community arrangement album, Paths Less Travelled: Terranigma. Featuring 31 tracks from 61 artists, Paths Less Travelled: Terranigma celebrates both the soundtrack and today's 23rd anniversary of Terranigma's European Super Nintendo release, and is directed by Jorrith "Jorito" Schaap and Troy "Trism" Plain. The album is available for free download at https://terranigma.ocremix.org.
This 3-disc release features a deep roster of musicians interpreting Miyoko Takaoka and Masanori Hikichi's atypical and thought-provoking RPG score with more than 2 hours of arrangements. Paths Less Travelled: Terranigma was made by fans, for fans, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Quintet, Kamui Fujiwara, or Square Enix; all images, characters, and original compositions are copyright their respective owners.
"This has been quite the experience," album co-director Troy Plain affirmed. "Three years and one hiatus in the making and it's finally here. I really hope you, the listener, enjoy this smorgasbord of different genres and interpretations of some truly amazing source music. Now; what to choose for Paths Less Travelled vol. 2..."
Terranigma represents the inaugural album of OCR's new Paths Less Travelled series, an endeavor that will focus on the soundtracks of overlooked and lesser-known RPGs. The Paths Less Travelled concept was initially developed by the album's visual artist, the UK-based David "Odai" Owen, himself a veteran visual contributor in the OC ReMix community.
"Every single contributor to the album has reflected stellar work on every track, and it proves to be a truly eclectic triple-album that pays homage to what I consider to be one of the very best unsung computer games of all time," declared Owen regarding the initial Paths Less Travelled installment.
Paths Less Travelled: Terranigma also marks Jorrith Schaap's third directorial effort for OC ReMix, including 2017's Resonance of the Pure Land, an extensive musical tribute to Hiroki Kikuta's score for the popular and recently remade SNES RPG Secret of Mana. Having contributed multiple pieces to OCR's 2018 album Hometown Heroes: Town Themes Arranged -- including entries from the Suikoden, Legend of Heroes, and Dragon Slayer series -- Jorito is also no stranger to arranging music from more obscure RPGs like Terranigma.
"After finally playing the game, the tracks, and their context, make a lot of sense, because they are all very well chosen and perfectly crafted for the occasion," explained album co-director Schaap. "The game is definitely worth a play, as one of the great SNES RPGs; if you haven't done so, do check it out."

    Hey folks,
long time no speak! Sorry for not being in touch, I’ve become useless at that, and no mistake. Takes two minutes to write something… Wonderfully though, Trism & Jorito have been in charge; and to be fair, between them and you lot, this album’s turned out far better than it could have with me at the helm.
I have been squirrelling away on the art side, though, and am pleased to say the artwork for the album is now finally done. You can see it here (sorry, resizing seems to be an issue):

I genuinely hope y’all like it, please let me know what you think. your involvement and perseverance on this project has brought it this far despite me, and I thank you all. Your opinions are valued. I’ve also been working on the assets for the promo site and handed them over to Jorito so he can do some cssourcery to showcase your sounds. We’re nearly over the line folks. Thanks once again for not bailing on the project, you're breathtaking!
