Gotcha. Orchestration honestly is different job wise depending on the composer you are working for. I've orchestrated for an artist, and it was writing orchestration to a piano track, or a vocal. Her copyist is who translated all of that to properly designed sheet music. Not even one note changed. The role changes depending I guess.

Yes and no. If you are a DIY'er then yeah it could be, however many film scores and video game scores are orchestrated by other people other than the composer that provides "sketches". John Williams is a good example of this, or Danny Elfman. Also composition to me is a basic lead sheet. The melody/lyrics and chords. With orchestration/arrangement coming in later. Depends on the genre in some cases.

It really comes down to this: If you don't make money, the worst that will happen if you get the video/song taken down. This is why a ton of artists just post covers on Youtube and don't bother with licensing. They just don't monetize it and allow monetization on copyright matches. What's this thread about again? Oh yeah.. Is it cool to use voices in songs: Yes. Especially if it's Bill Pullman's speech from Independence Day. -

Thanks Odai. That's pretty much what I have come to. A vocal cinematic experience. Much like Two Steps from Hell or Thomas Bergersen, but with vocals and songwriting. Our next album will be more directed to fantasy and more marketable. This album was written after a book. You can expect the same for my track with Terranigma of course. Though that will be very almost...trailer like. -

Hi there! I've been a member of these boards only for a bit, and just joined a remix project. I wanted to ask a favor on this board as I'm having a hard time decide what my sort of side-project band "Immortal Aria"'s genre actually is. The big genre is Classical, then most would call us classical crossover. However we don't release albums full of covers, the album is often a concept, and we hire vocalists from around the globe so the band itself can't really show up in person. http://immortalaria.bandcamp.com (You can stream free) If anyone could take a listen and tell me what band/arist does this music sound like? Who's the first that pops in your head? Here's a breakdown of the track "styles". The album itself is based on the Phantom of the Opera story. A very niche story at that. Some of you may enjoy this, or may not. 1. Orphan in Winter - Orchestral and focused on piano 2. That Summer by the Sea - female vocal (broadway like), orchestral 3. The Bleeding Rose - female vocal (Classical), orchestral, solo violin 4. Waltz with Death - Orchestral, dark, pipe organ, 3/4 time sig 5. In the Mirror - Opera Male Vocal, heavy brass, epic, orchestral 6. Legacy of Daae - Piano/Orchestral, ballad 7. Firelight Through Diamonds - Pop female vocal with strings, heavy staccato strings, pop'ish 8. Chanson de l'Ange - Opera female, orchestral, ambient, huge crescendo 9. Worlds Apart Female/Male broadway-style duet, rock elements (but with drop tuning), solo metal guitar, heavy orchestral, pop-feeling 10. Crimson Petals - solo cello and solo violin, sad, ambient Note to mods: This seemed like the only spot to place this. It's not an advertisement for original music, and not a remix.

I used Action Strings too, however it's so ...messy (it doesn't even match itself from violin to cello parts) I eventually switched to just engineering each note with samples from other libs (Hollywood Strings) -

I love the mix, the only two comments I'd have is the first chord probably should've been minor like the rest, and the harmony on the first part ends up on strange notes as it stays paralell entirely. It shouldn't end on the 6th of the chord like that and stick with 1/3/5 and sometimes 7 or 9 (depending)

I feel that the drums are way way way too quiet. They need to punch as much as all the other leads you have going. Also this doesn't feel mastered, if that's expected. The song itself, I like the idea, but it seems all over the place and not really structured. But there are styles that don't require that.

No problem. Just please note that I'm not a lawyer, though the public domain thing and the Song Trust thing is pretty solid as the company I worked for (Bookbaby which is part of CDBaby) works with Song Trust. Also I dealt with copyright situations for e-books (such as fan fiction) but not the music side. They generally work the same way though. -
The sounds starts out good, it really loses it around the area where it goes to a minor key. The notes being played in relation with the chord structure are kinda well..wrong. For some reason you are mixing minor 7ths with major 7ths, which only works in special situations. Then the song at the end starts what sounds like a round, or some kind of improv behind the melody, which ends up being messy. Generally when you have a limited sample library like this you have to stay simple, as violin sounds are not very different from say, a viola. They both compete for the same space.

This is great, as a sax player (that hasn't played in ages) I can definitely get with this. As everyone else said, the saxes are quiet. Be a real sax player and be you know...loud. Why the chorus/double tracking on the solo? Go RAW (with a bit of verb) That ending needs to be MUCH punchier. It definitely dropped off there.
