How difficult is mixing really?
zircon replied to The Pezman's topic in Music Composition & Production
I don't think it's possible to generalize about it. It really is completely different for every person. It has a lot to do with how inspired you are, how fluent you are with your software, how fast your computer is, how good you are at production, what source tune you're doine, what genre you're working in... it's as easy or hard as you make it. It's not any harder or easier than making music in general. -
YES! I have already started a mix of this actually.

Producing a Background Choir Effect
zircon replied to CptWillard's topic in Music Composition & Production
Yes, what you want to do is record multiple harmonies - if you're dealing with 3 or 4 note chords, you should have 3 or 4 separate tracks (one voice singing one part.) It definitely helps to have a bit of experience singing or arranging for voice so you know how to write a sensible set of parts. Once you have your multiple tracks, layer them together and pan them widely. Add reverb, possibly some delay, and EQ down the low end. You can easily get a "pad" style vocal sound. Now if you want a literal CHOIR kind of sound, that's going to be hard with one person. Unless you have a dedicated vocal processing plugin like Antares Avox I'm not sure if it's really possible to do it convincingly. -

Antigravity remix contest! *WINNERS ANNOUNCED*
zircon replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
Ah yes the reason I haven't uploaded Elly's is because that is not technically the final version. He sent me the one on his soundclick site, and then he and Fishy were going to add live guitars. Fishy got the guitars done and sent them, but apparently Elly is in the hospital for a lung operation so he hasn't been able to send me the final fixed version... Wish him well, folks. -

Oh no, I meant I was uploading the 6 mixes that were winners or honorable mentions. Total submissions clocked in at 26. I'm not sure whether I'll upload all of them or not... we'll see! -

I did say it would be 1-2 weeks before I'd have everything up.. though I have 5 of the 6 now. -
Antigravity remix contest! *WINNERS ANNOUNCED*
zircon replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
And we have the winners! * big giant circles (Jimmy Hinson) from the US with his remix of Mindbender. * Ellywu2 (aka Carpet Monster) from the UK with his remix of Warhead. Because there were a lot of good remixes, I've decided to choose two honorable mentions for each track also... I don't have a lot of resources to give, but these runners up will get a credit good towards any of my CDs, either existing or yet to be released. Simply email me at admin (at) zirconstudios (dot) com when you want to use it. Of course for everyone that did a great remix, I'm keeping your emails on file for future projects! Honorable Mentions for Warhead: * Sidel (Russia) * Skrypnyk (Canada) Honorable Mentions for Mindbender: * AnotherSoundscape (Sweden) * Phrakture (Canada) It was great listening to all the different interpretations of my tracks and I'd like to do this again sometime. Remember that even if you didn't win, you're still more than welcome to share your music and continue using the remix packs, just as long as I'm credited (a link wouldn't hurt!) If you want to sell your remixes, drop me a line and we can probably work something out. Thank you everyone for participating!! PS. I'll post all the winning entries and honorable mentions sometime within the next week or two at the following link: www.zirconstudios.com/remixcontest2k7/ -
Antigravity remix contest! *WINNERS ANNOUNCED*
zircon replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
I lost a little time from judging because pixie was sick this weekend and I was taking care of her. However, I've pretty much already chosen a winner for Warhead and within the next 24 hours I'll have one chosen for Mindbender.. possibly even by tonight. -
Antigravity remix contest! *WINNERS ANNOUNCED*
zircon replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
Yes, as per the instructions in the remix packs, you can basically do whatever you want with the songs as long as I'm credited properly and you're not making any kind of money off them. -

Apology accepted. I'm glad you've chosen to still be involved in the community. The ReMixing and Guides & Tutorials forums are a great place to start learning about how to create your own mixes. You can also contribute by commenting on songs posted in the Works in Progress forum, or simply reviewing posted mixes. Remember, it's fine to not like something (or even criticize it) as long as you present your opinion constructively.

No, it isn't bad form to ask other people; it's been done before, and we have several mixes coming up where that was the case. However, the producer usually gets collab credit alongside your name (after all, they did do a sizeable chunk of the work.) Unfortunately I'm not really available to do production work myself. Dayfdd was probably referring to mixing and mastering services I offer, where I take your project after it's all done and polish it as best I can (adjusting volume levels, EQing, compressing, limiting, and so forth.)

Sorry.. old topic. It is not for sale anymore.

Sadly, I have this problem with K2 and nothing I have done fixes it at all. I think I just need more RAM.
-
Nutritious you probably need to simply reload all the samples now that you have DFD installed. It's not that one slot works and one doesn't. Hy Bound; it's a RAM/disk streaming issue, yes. Computers choke when they stream from the disk too much (high poly). More RAM = more DFD buffer.
-
Definitely look for an update to the software first.. make sure you have the latest version. Yes, it could be out of date.
-
It's a problem with EWQLSO disk streaming. Make sure "Rendering Mode Notify" is checked on all your Kompakt instruments in the FL wrapper. Also, try to increase the size of your DFD buffers. How much RAM do you have?

Oh man. Lots of good possibilities from any of these: * thebattleofstringsandacellphone * Dan's Ice Cream Truck * Monstrous Turtles! :B
