I don't think production was much worse on a technical level in the 80s. Rather, we had all these new digital effects and used the hell out of them. Sort of like when you first discover the lens flare in Photoshop.

The controls feel kind of off when compared to the other Contra titles, and the top-down levels were downright awful. You'd be a lot better off with Hard Corps.

Nevermind the fact that the novelty of the franchises would have worn off by now if they kept pumping out sequels every year or two.

Maximum Carnage is a terribly mediocre brawler. It doesn't even have 2 player, from what I remember. Get Final Fight 3 instead (The second one is OK I guess, but stay far away from the port of the first game). If you want some fun competitive multiplayer, get Metal Warriors.

I think both of them are in there for the sake of variety. There are also reworked incarnations like the SOR1 Electra, Galsia, jugglers and karate guys. Along with a broader set of alternate palettes.

darn right!! when i get the wii, i will definitely download that game on the wii's virtual console!! along with the SNES version of Sparkster...the Genesis version of Sparkster is crap!! but definitely, i will download Rocket Knight Adventures!! The hottest game on Genesis!! No, the genesis version of Sparkster is not crap. It's an excellent game with lots of great level design and gameplay ideas. They were going for different demographics with the two versions. The SNES game was more like a traditional platformer while the other had more focus on speed and action, what with the frequent rocket usage and all.

SPC is more difficult since in a lot of cases the samples are tuned differently.

After a long time of not even thinking about expanding my VST library, I browsed KVR and stumbled across LazySnake. This one is a real gem. Why load up a 128mb rhodes library when you have this?

These 'leaks' can be mostly fixed by having more mods from different parts of the world to cover all the time zones.

It's the content for vanilla WoW after Burning Crusade is released, so you can still interact with the new races and such even if you haven't gotten the expansion.
