*NO* Sonic the Hedgehog 3 'Wild Wild IceCap'
The Orichalcon replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
This is pretty groovin'. However I notice a comedy of errors that need pointing out. First of all. You're using way too much reverb on the electric guitar at 0:21. That's a sweet lead, but it's drowning in the background as a result. The saxophone was pretty cool, but you hit a wrong note around 0:52. It's not too noticeable, but could've been spruced up for the final render. Loved the Brady Bunch homage at 0:34 btw, that was sweet. Overall, I'll say this could've been a bit better. I feel the timpani solo went on for a bit too long, but that's just personal preference. Nice work. YES -
ORC 101: Some dreams are better left faded [Results]
The Orichalcon replied to The Orichalcon's topic in Competitions
I'm here, I'm just being lazy. This'll be the last ORC unless someone offers to take over. I'll post up the tracks over the next few hours and voting will be open over the weekend. -
The idea was that she had no brains to blow out, so she could survive a gunshot to the head.

What was actually in Miss Clinton's snatch? They never explained that. It's well done, but this kind of episode really proves that South Park needs to be an hour long show. Imagine how much better this episode could've been if it was fleshed out to an hour. I was expecting another two-parter.

I'd like to welcome Phoenix to the project after a more than decent WIP was submitted for Track 10.

Are there any good free MMORPGs?
The Orichalcon replied to Shadow Wolf's topic in General Discussion
I recommend Anarchy Online if you enjoy a good challenge outside of battling. A lot of stuff in AO is hunting down items and using tradeskills to build better things for yourself. That's what I enjoyed most about it anyway. Large planet too for a free game. Oh, and AO would be good if you're after a sci-fi one. It's on another planet, 4 humanoid species, frequent full-scale alien invasions of major cities, that sort of thing. -
Not quite what I'm looking for, Slothboy. Thanks for applying though.

OCR01601 - *YES* Guilty Gear X2 'Destroy Movements' *RESUB*
The Orichalcon replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Arrangement is top notch, now it needs the emotion to back it up. You need to really show some dynamic contrast so that each section, instrument and single note/hit is efficient. Leave the arrangement as is and just work on the volume. I'm assuming the "cond" in the title means YES as long as that's fixed, so that's what I'll do. YES (with the "cond" thing) -
For the last 5%, I got rid of all gambits except for Arise and Attack. Bubble belts on them all and just let them bash the hell out of Yiazmat. He combos way too fast for Cure spells to be affective. Don't summon anything, it's a waste of MP and a waste of time. Just put Genji Gloves and Genji Helmet on whoever has the Masamune, cast Bravery/Protect/Haste on him, and let him combo over and over on Yiazmat while your other two heal him. That's how I got him down. The fight took me 5 and a half hours, and I stopped to save 9 times. You need to finish all the hunts and kill the Hell Wyrm in Sochen Palace before the Yiazmat hunt will be offered.

The episode was all right. But Travis had a REALLY annoying voice.
-
Just finished the game. Avoided this thread until I had all spoilers out of the way. I finished the game hunts, killed Yiazmat. Got the Tournesol. Missed the Zodiac Spear though. As much as some didn't enjoy that fight, I sure did. I guess all I have left now are the rare game that I missed and Omega.

ORC 101: Some dreams are better left faded [Results]
The Orichalcon replied to The Orichalcon's topic in Competitions
It used to. I didn't really think it was important given that there are many other remix competitions running at various times. I know my organisation has been poor so far, but times are busier than they were when ORC was running fluently from week to week. -
It's doubtful a Final Doom project would be started. It's just not popular enough to even bother trying. Delta-Q-Delta comes from the cheatcode in the game for invincibility, ie: IDDQD. DQD was a phony fraternity name that the creators came up with to explain the team working on the game.
-
Quinn Fox and Sixto have been booted from the project. So if anyone had their eye on one of those tracks, let me know. Also, RP, let me know how you're going with that track. If you're struggling, feel free to try any of the other free tracks.

- The Original Remixing Competition 101 - Welcome to ORC101. Source Material Last week's winner was Xela, just narrowly beating out analoq. This week he's decided to go in a different direction to Rexy's source last week, with somewhat of a faded dream in the mix. GEDDIT?? Xela - Faded Dreams: MP3 - MIDI Deadline Your deadline is Monday, March 26th at midnight. So have your pieces in to me before Monday to play it safe. The Quick Rules Rundown 1. Anyone can enter regardless of your remixing ability. 2. Filesize is limited to 8 meg. 3. You may only enter one piece. 4. When you've finished your entry, please PM the link to me (The Orichalcon) before the deadline. Please do not post the mix in the thread. 5. Along with your submission, you're encouraged to do a short write-up or description of your entry. 6. You may submit your piece as a MIDI, MP3 or OGG file. 7. During the voting period, voters are encouraged to give a short review the pieces they vote in the top 3. For information on voting and the competition rules, please visit this link For information on when mixing and voting times start and end please visit this link The New Rules Better Explained As you can see, the layout of the post is a little different. Much like TOMC, ORC will now use the first post of the thread as the main means of transaction. All the pieces will be linked here, along with the results. New rules are as follows: 1. You must now PM your piece to me, no exceptions. Please do not post the link in this thread at all. If you can't find a host, either email the piece to me as an attachment, or send it over IRC/MSN. 2. Along with your submission, you're encouraged to do a writeup. This is to help the listener better understand your piece, which can help you with votes in the end. 3. Much like TOMC, I'll be linking offsite to the results, along with which I'll paste all the votes that I've received. Voters are strongly encouraged to write a short review of why they voted the pieces in first, second and third place. I'll omit the names of the voters for privacy sake before posting them up.

*NO* Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 'Shoppe Theme'
The Orichalcon replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Like Larry said, it's a very well-made cover. Get your group back together and come up with a remix arrangement of the piece. You could probably stretch it to between 2-3 minutes and that'd be enough, don't overdo it. But you obviously know what you're doing, so I'd love to hear this done properly as a remix. NO -
ORC 100: It's a new beginning [Results]
The Orichalcon replied to The Orichalcon's topic in Competitions
Just a bump to let people know I'll start the ORC101 competition this Friday as we settle into a routine. Just so people don't think I've forgotten. -
*listens to Clairvoyant Elegy* Aww, yeah. This is awesome. That guy you collabed with is pretty great too.

Happy birthday to you and Larry.

OCR02194 - *YES* Pokémon Red Version 'Battle for the Badge'
The Orichalcon replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Great leads mate, hit 'em dead on. Problems right from the start with the cymbals and your rock kit. The drums are a tad too "light" for my liking. You could've dropped them a few tones and compressed them a tad to give them a more grunge sound. The cymbals and hi-hats stole the show on more than one occasion. The only real displeasing part of the mix. The grunge guitar probably could've been boosted a bit too to solidify the mid-bass end of the piece. You win points for making me picture Larry rocking out though. Headbangin' with a 'fro. Rock on, Larry. All right, not the best rock mix in the world. Kind of tame for my tastes. But it's pretty good and I'm sure the pokemon fans would be stoked to finally have a remix on the site. YES -
*NO* Final Fantasy 7 'Gladly Badass'
The Orichalcon replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Horrible introduction, fake guitar is rarely good. synths are all right. Beats are quite blande and thin. The treble of the piece is heavily favoured. Your bass is just weak and playing an octave too high in my opinion. I was expecting a nice piano arrangement when I read your description. The bass synth thing is just grating and not enjoyable at all, I have no idea why you decided to let it be the focus for the middle of the mix, especially considering that section is almost entirely originals. The parts that actually remix the sandy badlands theme from the original sound all right, but essentially you've not really done anything beyond a few gated synths. This may be enough to pass, but the instrumentation is just bad excluding those synths. Your bass, the beats, they have a long way to go before being enjoyable. NO -
*NO* Final Fantasy 10 'Kilika Woods'
The Orichalcon replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Beautifully played mate. It's a straight-up cover. You might've even considered putting a bit of reverb over the top of your lead guitar line just to make it a bit smoother. Yeah, we don't do direct covers here. But I'm glad I got to hear this one. It's a nice piece. You'll want to concentrate on reinterpreting the arrangement of future submissions as Larry said. You can evidently play, so it shouldn't be a problem to just jump on the creativity foot and do the remix thing. NO -
OCR01644 - *YES* Final Fantasy 7 'Golden Feathers'
The Orichalcon replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
The amount of time spent racing chocobos in FF7 means I'm very familiar with the source, and it's one of the better sounding pieces from the FF7 soundtrack (I mean that in the actual way it sounds. Even though FF7 had a lot of great tunes, the samples used on the soundtrack were average at best, this is one of the tracks that actually sounded good with the samples.) Anyway, on to the remix. Upbeat, light-hearted remix. Dysfunctional at times, overbearing in the treble at other times. When we get to the "ethnic" part, just the slightest bit of feedback on that sitar would've gone a long way to making it flow with the mix more fluently, right now it sounds tacked over the top and clashes with the chill of the mix for me. Still, great mix. People will enjoy it, kudos to you mate. YES -
*NO* Final Fantasy 10 'High Summoner Yuna'
The Orichalcon replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
That intro sounds like a mix between the ending theme from Final Fantasy VIII and something from Edward Scissorhands. The mix itself is quite dull. I don't understand why you'd try to remix this piece in this orchestral style when there's already a mix on the soundtrack that does it far more professionally (Disc 4 - Ending Theme.) This is all right for a fun arrangement. But the samples are cack for the type of emotion you're trying to convey, and the arrangement drags on rather than reaching any real climax. Things get thicker around the 4:40 mark, but it's still the same poor samples ruining it. I hate to piss on a decent arrangement just because of samples. But with orchestral pieces, you either have to do a superb job with the bad samples, or get better samples. There's just no way around it. NO from me. -
OCR01670 - *YES* Radical Dreamers 'The Scar-Sealing Girl'
The Orichalcon replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Out of context theatre presents... Anyway, can't say I'm liking that sharp synth. It's just a bit too high on the treble end that it hurts the old ears. The intro was maybe a little sloppy, could have a more refined and professional sound. The piano section is very nice. No complaints there, beautiful. The guitar comes in at 2:46 and it sounds smooth and fitting. Coming into the drums I can't say that transition was too smooth or fitting though. That synth just sounds ugly, especially after the beautiful piano/guitar part. Not sure what you were going for there. The synth lead that comes in sounds all right, but it's just a bit too whiney for the context of the mix. This seems all right to me, it just lacks that polish that could make it sound A+. I dunno what the mixers were going for here, since the mix is constantly switching from scrappy sounding synths/drums to beautiful ambient and melodic piano/guitar/music box combinations. Ignoring some of the worse sections, the parts that are good are very good. Enough to pass? Yes, but I wouldn't be complaining if I saw this tidied up before it's posted. YES
