  1. Mario Kart: Double Dash!! - GOOD GOD NO The fact that this sold well at the same time that F-Zero GX came out is heresy. Aspects that I take issue with in Double Dash: -A complete lack of options. Apparently Nintendo found it too hard to implement a 4 player grand prix mode that didn't require two of those people to fall asleep manning the back of each kart. -Lacklustre course design. I believe it was only the final cup where I took note of the clever ideas impelented. Many courses were too short, too simple and didn't do enough to differentiate themselves other than visually. -The battle stages. After Block Fort, whoever designed Block City needs to be shot. What a cop out. -The soundtrack. Joy, completely forgettable tunes that never fail to annoy. How do I loathe that title screen. Double Dash was a game made on the cheap to cash in from 2003's holiday season. Nintendo certainly knows how to make the most money with the least amount of effort.
  2. For any Aussies concerned, I just bought tickets for the weekend Sydney showing. At least Yamaoka is set to be there.
  3. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door - YES Oh man, you just reminded me of the chest demons. "FOOOOOOOOLS!" Nintendo's best in-house offering this generation, hands down.
  4. Prediction- anyone who doesn't own a Cube controller will get flattened by those who do. Okay, maybe the Classic one has a chance.
  5. Note to anyone who might 'NO' We Love Katamari; the original never got a PAL release. Keep that in mind.
  6. It's a screenshot. There's not much else you can discuss about it.
  7. That's a shitty Pokeball model. I understand that much of the time you won't see it that up close, but still..
  8. The Cube and PC ports of Beyond Good and Evil. Bought the latter because it was cheap/Ubi deserved the sale/I wanted to play it hi res. I will gladly buy King Kong again for 360 if I see it at, say, $25. Nice graphics.
  9. That song reminded me how disgustingly cute the Yoshis were singing 'oh way oh'. Story would have had good music is they had bothered to compose more than one melody.
  10. Get yourself versed in adventure games, boy! -Curse of Monkey Island -Grim Fandango -Full Throttle -The Longest Journey
  11. I know Psychonauts is getting YESs regardless.. but bringing nothing new to the genre? Are you kidding? Show me more creative level design where everything means something, is tied to the character and world, and I'll eat my hat.
  12. I think everyone has neglected the fact that The Terminator needs to see this. Or Blackperson.
  13. I can't find my half-finished copy of Justice for All.. But seeing as this is a prequel, that wouldn't put me at a disadvantage.
  14. I'll take a subtle cameo over blatant product placement anyday. And I don't think Richards was wearing much makeup..
  15. Actually, I think one of them died. Just like in the original.
  16. They finished filming in January, so it's possible.
  17. When it became more a dance than a fight, it was cringe-worthy.
  18. 40 minutes over at DoD is the record, isn't it?
  19. You know what's awesome? The fact that the DS is semi-resurrecting the adventure game genre. Crackpot Entertainment, made up of old school LucasArts alumni, are developing a game called Insecticide. It's different, it looks great, and it's coming from some talented people. I'm almost sold already.
  20. Because this thread was inevitable, and I wanted to make it after creating the Dead Man's Chest one. Decent enough conclusion. Much of the (perhaps unneeded) complexity of the second film is dropped for the sake of a final showdown. The action was fun, though for some reason I preferred the three way swordfight over the sea battle at the end. Oh, and prepare to suspend disbelief quite a bit. ***SPOILERS*** Norrington's death was lame. After the pretty cool direction his character turned in Dead Man's Chest, his non-involvement was a let down. You could tell his removal was for simplification of the plot, which is a shame. The 'three different motivations' thing set up previously was one my favourite things from 2.
  21. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time- YES I previously blogged on why this game is awesome. Starfox Adventures- NO A huge waste of potential. Miyamoto was insane to get Rare to use the Starfox license just because the main character looked similar.
  22. Bummerdude, live with the fact that you unleashed the beast.
  23. Dammit, I wish more Mario games would adopt the denim overalls look.
  24. I can imagine Sakurai going up to industry people and saying "sup wanna work on brawl?" Oh, and Sakuraba's arrangement in MP3 format- http://www.shacknews.com/remo/smash.mp3
  25. Pikmin- NO With this vote I also request an override for previous 'yes' votes. Pikmin's sequel improved upon everything that the original may have done, and added many new, really great features- multiplayer, co op, Piklopedia, etc etc. The original Pikmin breaking ground is irrelevant in this list, which is recommending both titles in the same context. There isn't a three year gap between them anymore. To anyone who voted for this game, I plead to you to rescind your vote and keep it for Pikmin 2. Skies of Arcadia Legends- YES I.. tolerate RPGs. With that in mind, I intend to give the proper weight to the following statement- Legends was my favourite Gamecube game ever. The feeling that you're actually making a difference to the world, to gather and command an entire crew feels great. It might have its fair share of role playing cliches, but at the same time the focus on exploration rather than revenge, having to make yourself stronger.. that's what sucked me into the world. I don't know why anyone couldn't enjoy this atmosphere, or find a tedious grind.
