  1. I didn't mind the snare so much till about 1:22. I don't think is gels well with the rest of the drums, or especially when you get to the more dancey portion of the song. There's also silence for 12 or so seconds at the end. Could trim that a little bit. That's... about all the criticism I have for this. It's a pretty solid mix. Develops nicely, mixed rather well (maybe turn down the acoustics a tad), but over all a good effort. *thumbs up*
  2. whoa, treble overload. How many cymbals are you playing at the same time? i.e. the drumming is unrealistic. Not necessarily (holy shit when the song ended my ears opened up) a bad thing, but if you're playing live and trying to go for realism you outta know. The mixing is pretty mucky, the low ends tend to blur with one another and the kick gets pretty lost in it. The drums could use more fillers and change up. I do like the energy of the piece though. It isn't overly long which is nice, but you to have a static progression which makes it a little repetitive. If you could get someone to fix up the composition with some change ups or breakdowns, I can see this being really good.
  3. This worries me. The piece screams novice. There's no groove, the beat is unbelievably boring, there's no effects used, there's literally nothing here. It sounds like you 'found' a copy of FL and are trying to figure out how to use it. Keep trying, keep learning, keep practicing. This scares me.
  4. Wowzers! What an honour!! No need to get into details or anything, I'm sure you'll be flooded with responses soon.
  5. practice, practice, practice study, study, study experiment, experiment, experiment repeat, repeat, repeat
  6. Nonamer was looking to see if there was any interest and I was stating my position. I would suggest if you do gain enough interest, to just limit it to something like 12 songs, from which ever game or which ever the remixers want to do. Not every game needs every song mixed.
  7. Loved the game, bought the original from someone on this forum, can't for the life of me remember the music.
  8. The balance on this song is still atrocious. Everything sounds extremely panned, and everything else seems dead centered. It's hard to really focus on anything when you have half your head playing one thing and the other half playing something else. I'm not going to talk about the arrangement or song writing untill the above problem is resolved. Someone (I think it was Malcos) posted a while back The Machine, which consisted of pretty much every drum machine and their sample in a handy downloadable .zip file or something. I can't seem to locate the topic, but you can try googling 'the machine drum samples' and see if there's a link still working somewhere.
  9. Good to see you finished this. Unfortunately, I still have some grips with it, mainly about the drums. Despite you having some fillers in various spots, of which sound awesome, as a whole they still come off as repetitive if only because you played them through out the entire mix (minus 2:22). Dropping the hats for a part, losing the kick in the intro, varying up the pattern in some sections to something completely different could have saved this tremendously. and for a little nit-picky stuff, I don't think the hats really needed reverb, or at least not a noticeable amount. Good effort, and good luck on future endeavours
  10. ho hum~ Want to hear more work done on this before giving any critical feedback, as it is rather barebones and repetitive.
  11. Stopped listening after 2 seconds. The one thing that was worrying me even before listening was that you have it on youtube. Then upon it listening to the first 2 seconds I hear default default default. Really poor mixing. This is really novice sounding stuff. Nothing personal or sensational about it. I hope you're having fun making this (and other) mixes, as I don't want to completely rain on your parade. Keep playing around and learning new tools and techniques.
  12. You pretty much summed up anything I have to offer. It's really too straight forward, simple and repetitive. Try adding complex pads, attenuating volumes on pads, swells, changing up how you transition from one bar to the next, cutting down the intro so you have less filler, throw effects all over the place.
  13. General thread. Do you/have you played electronic music live? Did you DJ? Do you use those electronic pad things? How did you do it? What do you use/what's your setup? What did you play? What do you recommend? Any tips?
  14. The amount of people who claim to be hooked up in the other thread is waaay more then I had expected.
  15. this brings back warm and fuzzy memories. It's a cute mix. Turned on Jamiroquai after listening just to see if they were of similar styles, and help give some advice. I suppose the big thing is that while your arrangement is really nice, the song production is plain plain. Very traditional choices in instruments, acoustic drums, organ, bass, etc. and since it's sequenced, or at the very least recorded via midi, you're stuck with recorded samples. I think you can make that work, provided you do something a little special with them. Horns or fanfare would help punch various parts of the piece, a wah wah guitar or any kind of funky guitar would turn this up a huge notch too. I'm listening to it again and I didn't even notice the cowbell on the first go around at 2:00. Panning the tamb and cowbell would give the mix some nice space. Adding a clap to go with the snare every 4th beat or something would add subtle variation too. It needs a certain punch, a certain kick, a certain kick punch block. As it stands it's great music as background filler for an announcement or broadcast, but on its own it's quite forgettable.
  16. mmmmm !! If you're interested, I wanna offer you my drumming services. I dunno if you plan on beefing up their sounds, but they do sound a little soft and weak (particularly the kick). But the track gels so much with that bass. Will eagerly wait for next update.
  17. I think there's a huge laziness on your part because the mixing and production isn't all that bad, but you might as well have sampled someone saying 'stop hitting yourself, stop hitting yourself' and loop that for 8 minutes. Also, why 8 minutes? As you worked on it, what gave you the impression that it needed to be longer than 2? Why did you stop at 8 and not go for 12 minutes? 16 minutes?
  18. Oh there's the source. Half way through the track. Super extended club mixes always make me zzzzzzzz I like that degrading chip/synth sound you use @ 6:30 and other places. Standard D&B. Nothing really pushing and groundbreaking with this. I'm assuming you didn't make this to try to get on OCR and it's more of a personal remix/something to play live.
  19. Right off the bat there are mixing issues, and it's pretty persistent through-out the track. You seem to favor the right side a lot too. Disagreeing with tim222 this time, I think the snare is fine, and it's the kick that doesn't mesh well with this. Could be a mixing issue though. The kick stands out too much and becomes a central focus. Your hats could also be attenuated a bit. Also change up change up change up, waaay too repetitive of a drumloop. I find it a little weird how you pan your leads more than you do your drums. It's not necessarily bad but it does cause a sense of imbalance in your mix. If you ping-pong delay it to the other speaker it'd help I reckon. I don't think there's really any issue with what you're using for lead instruments. They work/can work if you mix them better. Dedicate some time just tweaking with the mixing in this song. HP filter some of your leads, lower the volume on some instruments, re-adjust the panning, etc.
  20. You're name looks familiar... maybe I'm thinking of gogotails22122. Nice mix, nice production. Simple, atmospheric, droney, although to me it does come off too simple and straight forward. There isn't a whole lot of nitty gritty work going on and relies heavily on the pads and atmosphere. I agree with tim222, transitions and various change ups would help to make it more interesting. I'm familiar with the original tune but not enough to really compare it with this. Good effort, well done.
  21. Oh cool, I just wanted to make sure my soundcloud was posted and that people had access to my soundcloud and that I didn't forget to post my soundcloud in a thread full of other soundcloud users, or accidently post my bandcamp page in a soundcloud thread. Wouldn't that be awkward? Posting a bandcamp link in a soundcloud thread? Boy would my face be red.
  22. Did I post my soundcloud in this thread? I'm not sure if I posted my soundcloud in this thread. Just in case I didn't post my soundcloud in this thread, I'mma post my soundcloud in this thread.
