  1. I'm just curious as to why your are doing this. For fun? School project? Other?
  2. I'd like to believe I know the DKC2 soundtrack like the back of my hand, but at 0:55 seconds in... I can't tell what the original tune is. Even after the fade out I'm still unsure. and after the required youtube look up of the song, a soft 'ooooohhh' is voiced. Gonna say your remix is on the side of not sounding enough like the original (Liberal? Republican?), which is cool if you wanna work on this and pass it off as an original. Not so good if you want to have something submittable. As for your mix itself, despite being 2:20 in length, it tends to be really repetitious. The sounds are pretty generic/bland, nothing really stands out as being a leeeeead. There's nothing really creative going on, no interesting breakdowns, seems very flat, not enough dynamic change. For example, you could completely remove the drums from 1:20 to say 1:29, that would have a strong change up to the song. Overall it's not bad, not terrible, but it fails to really leave an impact on me. Keep practicing, keep experimenting, keep going.
  3. Maybe it's just me, but this statement seems somewhat hostile. I'm sure a lot of successful artists actually do know what failure is like. Yeah, I'm calling BS on that statement too. A lot of entrepreneur always seem to say that their first couple of businesses ended up failing before they managed to create something that works and is successful. I see no difference between them and artists except their career choice.
  4. They don't use the word 'free' anywhere in their statement. Really the only thing you can argue is that little 'art form' bit. OCR meme is now an OCR meme.
  5. Drumbient? Moar liek Ambium I gave it a couple of listens, and boy, do I have some criticism for you. The whole song feels very stale, very static. Even with the main pad breathing in and out, everything else seems quite stiff and mechanical. There isn't a whole lot of dynamics with your drums or leads. Your piano and flute have no sense of humanization, as well as sounding very loopy. Repeating the same patterns with no variation tends to get dull. The overall mixing is also flat. I know soundcloud and youtube likes to compress the songs sometimes, but I don't believe that's the case here. There's subtle yet noticeable distortion through-out the track (when the piano comes in @ 1:36, when the kick hits at the beginning of the tune, etc.) So some quick advice: - Practice on mixing. Learn some tips and tricks to get the most out of your sounds and space in the mix. - Work on humanization if you're trying to incorporate live sounds. A little finesse and personalization goes a long way. - Have variation. You can have patterns that repeat, but you shouldn't have sections that sound the same. Having one-shot sounds can make all the difference. - Keep at it
  6. Downloading Donkey Kong Country and Bubble Bobble tunes through WinMX or Limewire back in the day. Came across a bunch of files that were titled with OC_ReMix, and eventually figured out what that meant.
  7. pgood = pretty good. I'm just lazy when it comes to writing complete words or finishing senten http://ocremix.org/info/Submission_Standards_and_Instructions Give that a quick look see, e-mail is in point 7. It should take 2 months or a year for them to get around to reviewing it. Good luck.
  8. yeah, it's pgood. Mixing is good, arrangement is there, genre is ehhhhhhhhhh, but two out of three ain't bad.
  9. Jumping on the AKG K240 MKII bandwagon. I used to have a pair of, I believe they were the K140, and while they were good my ears would hurt from wearing them for an extended amount of time (physical pain from the pressure). I also have a pair of Sony MDR 7506 as someone recommended them. Also good I guess but I definitely prefer the K240. It gives a smooth rounder sound while the 7506 gives a more raw hard sound.
  10. Sounds like me when I first started. Once you start playing around with different things, and you begin to know what a knob does, and how it affects the effect or synth, and how it changes a sound, you can begin to use proper techniques in getting what you want to sound the way you want it. Really it's just knowledge and practice, practice and knowledge. As long as you're happy and having fun just trying and doing and learning then keep at it. Don't get too caught up on just one project, keep trying new stuff in new projects and save and keep everything. You can always go back and adjust things properly when you know what it is you want to do.
  11. When I listened to version three, my first thought was 'this is the third version??? What did version one sound like?'. Upon listening to that, without getting too into detailed it sounds more or less the same. These comments are not about your composition or arrangement (well, excluding drums). It's about your production and mixing abilities which, if your wips are any indication, you sorely lack. You can argue that you would worry about all that when the song is finished, but I'm concerned, based on what I'm hearing now, that you won't be able to pull it off. I can hear low end stabs when whatever is playing on the left speaker comes in at 0:37 and others. Your drums are non-existent, kick and snare are blurred and buried, and the hats really just do the same chchchchchchchchchch through-out the entire piece. As concerto pointed out, the tune has no bass. No bass bass. No sub bass. No real highs either. Everything is clashing in mids, and nothing really comes out and takes a strong, present lead. The guitars and piano also come off incredible sequenced and stiff. They need a strong overhaul of finesse to make them sound realistic. Hate to sound dismissive, but I don't think this has potential at all. The amount of work required to really make this shine wouldn't be worth the time or trouble. I would study more about mixing and production, try learning more about your DAW, and start something fresh. btw, to make the song sound like it's underwater, use a low-pass filter.
  12. good god can you people stop using the word art in a thread about dubstep and vgm
  13. Just been playing around with this for the last 15 minutes, pretty edgy. There's a lot to like about this, and I'm not just talking about the current price either. Thanks for the share Flex.
  14. Alright. Use a different time signatures. Use a different tempo speed. Experiment with different synths. Experiment with the effects you have. Experiment with samples you don't usually use. Experiment.
  15. - 4-on-the-floor beat - bassline and open hat on the off beat - generic arpping saw synth - repetitive as fuck yep, this is trance
  16. If you keep throwing darts at a dartboard, eventually you'll hit the bullseye. Just. Keep. Throwing.
  17. United States Canada United Kingdom Australia Germany
  18. Not only should you buy one you should buy another one
  19. What kind of disco do/did you listen to? I wouldn't class this as disco, but then I wouldn't really classify this as anything. It's, dare I say, too directionless to really be categorized. Mixing is a bit of an issue in this. Everything blends in too much with each other it makes it all sound flat. Nothing has a pop or stands out and it stays this way through out the track. The transition to different sections aren't dynamic enough (0:15 for instance). It's not terrible mind you, and I think you have enough of an arrangement to qualify, but it does need more direction, focus, and TLC.
  20. But think of the publicity that would generate.
