  1. Yes, there was some Radical Dreamers in there. JJT: lemme see if I can dig up some of my old midi remixes.
  2. OCR isn't demanding that you do anything. The difference is location; it's unreasonable for a religious organisation to try to make us show that level of reverence here on OCR, because OCR is not a religious organization. If we were to, say, walk into your church and fail to show proper reverence to your beliefs, you would be within your rights to take offense. But quite simply, this is OCR's turf, not the church's. Therefore OCR's rules are accepted over the church's. Any attempt to censor somebody else's actions on their own turf based on what would be offensive on your turf is, by definiton, intolerant. I think Dave's post was absolutely correct.
  3. I sampled it myself (from my shitty radioshack keyboard)! I was quite proud of that.
  4. This thread seriously needs some more love. Nice stuff! I'll give a more detailed breakdown when I get home tonight.
  5. I'd been sequencing midis in NoteWorthy composer for a year or two before these; these were all made with modplug tracker. ROFL This was before I learned to play guitar. Come to think of it, my initial post wasn't quite accurate: I think these are actually my second, third, and fourth attempts at remixing. I still haven't been able to find my first (which got direct-rejected, and never made it to the judges panel)
  6. I wholeheartedly dissagree. He took a source and interperetted and expanded on it, the textbook definition of a remix. Furthermore, it took some real creativity, not to mention some serious balls, to do something like this. This is groundbreaking, Doug has done something here that no remixer on the site has ever done before, which is no small feat considering that it's the site's 1844th mix.
  7. HAHA! DO you still have that one? I couldn't find it. If you have it, send it my way and I'll add it to the first post.
  8. I just found these lying around on my hard drive. These are some of my earliest mixes. They suck BADLY. So I thought I'd share them for lulz, and perhaps to encourage n00bs by demonstrating that it's ok if they suck, because we all sucked when we started (except for assholes like sixto and CPac) http://www.geoffreytaucer.com/wips/sonicice.mp3 (yes, it's icecap zone) http://www.geoffreytaucer.com/wips/zeal.mp3 (yes, it's corridors of time) EDIT: Another of my earlier ones, courtesy of skrypnyk: http://www.geoffreytaucer.com/wips/poochy.mp3 (poochy's theme from Tetris Attack -- sucks slightly less than the other two)
  9. I'm still trying to figure out what progressions I like for a muscle-up; some kids seem to pick it up relatively easily, some don't. I have some extremely strong kids who can't do them, and I have some that aren't as strong that can. Lots of dips and pull-ups seem to help, but beyond that I can't really tell you. One thing I will say, though; make sure you've got the grip right. It is MUCH MUCH easier with a false grip than with a hanging grip. The easiest way I can describe a false grip is this: put your hands through the rings so your wrist is resting on the ring itself. Then, without otherwise shifting your hand, pull your thumbs back through to the other side. You should be able to grip the rings with your wrists on top, not hanging under them. This will make the transition a LOT easier.
  10. LOL For the record, the irony was not lost on me. EDIT: For those who have no idea what's going on here: the lyrics are an adaptation of the lord's prayer in Swahili. I say "ironic," because I'm one of the more outspoken agnosts/atheists in PP&R
  11. (A student of mine)
  12. Eulogic is an evil sadistic bastard. ANd we love him. Happy birthday, eulogic!
  13. Well, the original did, afterall, have the one of most epic cumshots ever. Cool. Good to know. Saw it on the site itself; it came up and then went down. Dave said, in short, he made some mistakes while putting it up and had to take it down to fix them.
  14. Ok, here's what I'd do: spend the money on a soundcard and headphones. Find the best soundcard you can and the most accurate headphones you can, and just go with free stuff for software/samples. this thread and this guide will probably be very useful to you.
  15. Some really good stuff here. I especially reccomend zircon's tutorials. Also, it would help if you could give us an idea of how much money you're ready to spend on this. It can be done perfectly well for free, though you can also greatly expand your options by throwing some money at it.
  16. If we can pick up enough programmers, I think it would be better to take the I, Mario project and run with it than to start something completely new.
  17. I never start with midis; I've always found that stifles my creativity. I do everything from scratch, by ear. Sometimes my memory and my ear are accurate, sometimes they aren't. Most of my best ideas come from messing around and sometimes even from screwing up; for example I have a zelda's lullabye mix in the works that sounds, in my opinion, absolutely amazing, and it grew out of failed attempts to figure out the original chord progression. I couldn't figure out the chords for the original, but I found that with a few alterations to the melody I could use a simpler progression that not only sounded great, but fit just as well behind Illia's theme, allowing me to mash the two together into a single mix. So I took the idea and ran with it (or rather, am running with it)
  18. Very nicely done! Love the tone of the synths. They're all simple, but very effective. Also, congrats on getting your first mix posted!
  19. Ordered. Will likely make good use of it (as I have with Sitar Nation)
  20. Wow.... this is absolutely gorgeous. Without a doubt one of the most beautiful piano arrangements I've heard. You have done an absolutely amazing job of bringing out all the emotion in the source. I just wish it was longer! Definitely going on my list of all-time favorite remixes.
  21. I think the biggest thing it needs is more interesting percussion. Otherwise, beautifully done.
  22. Hehe, actually, I just a month or two ago splurged on some new stuff, and had a couple libraries I hadn't made much use of yet, so with this mix I was specifically setting out to use every library I could, especially the new ones I just got. That way I could tell myself I was actually justified in paying that much goddamn money for them. EWJ thread?
