Audix - One Day Millennium album release on Protagonist Records
sgx replied to Sole Signal's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, dawg! So, protagonistrecords.net is my little record label. If you've bought my own music through my cart system in the last 7 months or so, you may have seen the cart labeled as such. Now, I've finally got the main page rolling and have a group of artists participating. Check it out. I'll post my introduction I just recently posted on the page to let you know what it's all about: Audix's physical album will be hot looking. If you've ever purchased one of my CD's in the cool cases (Chroma 1st edition, SGXRMX2, Outmoded, Hero of the Grey Area) you'll know what I'm talking about. There are some images of the SGXRMX2 cases at the bottom of this page: www.sgxmusic.com/sgxrmx2.htm. These cases are cool as nuts! Orders should ship out within 10 days, but you get the download with a purchase of the physical disc right away. One Day Millennium is a pretty kickass way to get things started. The album is consistently good throughout with a focus on intelligent melodies and catchy grooves. Sounds yummy! -

I'm not sure yet - it depends on a lot of things like when my bro is available to help me move, when I schedule cable guys to come hook up the house, how much I actually get done, etc. -
Just cuil it. I can't wait to tell people to cool it. edit: how the hell does it not come up with anything for "sgx music"???

This stuff is very good, I must say. Sir, please contact me - I would like to chat chat chat!

Looking at vgcharts.com, FFXII, a game launched at the end of the PS2's life, where there were bajillions of PS2's out there, sold 5.2 million copies worldwide to date. Call of Duty 4 for xbox 360 has sold 6.2 million world wide and ps3 - 3.4m.

Well I think that Sony has about the same amount of A-list exclusive stuff as MS. I don't think they'll lose Resistance, Killzone, Little Big Planet, Infamous, Gran Turismo, etc. All of those are likely to sell extremely well. Put that against Gears 2, Fable 2, Halo Wars (yawn). Most 3rd party developers have gotten used to developing multiplatform for both, so I highly doubt that you'll see any more high-profile 3rd party stuff come out like Bioshock only on xbox. It's pretty even as I see it. The Playstation brand is extremely strong too - PS3 has been mostly outselling xbox since the beginning of this year in the US, and it has been doing even better in lots of European markets. I think it is pretty clear that currently, the xbox library is quite a bit stronger than the PS3's, but people are still grabbing that expensive PS3 over the Xbox recently. I've got buddies who are gamers on and off (they like GTA's, Maddens, random other things) and when they say they want a PS3, I ask why not the 360. They say "I don't know...I liked my PS2."

I don't think it is really a big deal for Sony. FF is a pretty big franchise, yes, but it isn't THAT big - especially today. There are a lot more casual gamers and fratboy Call of Duty/Halo type gamers compared to say, 1997 when FFVII was huge. Those gamers don't give a crap about girly-men fighting using a menu system. There are still plenty of JRPG fans, probably more than 10 years ago, but there are magnitudes more of the types of gamers that aren't interested. Sony has plenty of stuff that will appeal to those folks. Face it, FF is approaching niche. FF still is a big money maker, but Call of Duty, Halo, Guitar Hero, Petz, and Wii junk make more. FF may seem like a big deal to us on message boards and enthusiast press, but that is because most of us give a damn about FF or know plenty who do. It's not that big of a deal.

How Can I Include ReMixing, With my Passion For Computers
sgx replied to Halt's topic in Music Composition & Production
sounds like me. I decided back in college that while I really enjoy making music, I really did not want to do it for a living, at least if it wasn't entirely on my terms. I want to make music that I'm excited by, and I'm very much not interested in making music other people ask for. I'm pretty sure if I did music for a living, I wouldn't feel like doing it for fun. So, I work in multimedia design (web design/video production/minor audio production). I'm definitely better at music than any of the stuff I do for work, but it is safer and easier to do this multimedia stuff for a living. If someone comes up to me and says, "hey i love your sound - i've got this super exciting film or game that we want you to work on, and we want basically the same type of material you make anyways!" I'd totally be up for that. I'm definitely not writing any jingle for commercials. Ugh. -
I have synesthesia myself, but no offense, if you cannot figure out or get comfortable with sheet music, you could be unmotivated, impatient, or you may have some sort of other learning disability. Just like reading words on paper, reading music on paper won't come naturally until you've done it for a while and applied yourself learning it. The sheet music system is not anybody's ideal way of 'thinking' about music - it's just the ideal way folks came up with to record arrangements on a certain size paper in a convenient format for printing and reproduction. I'm sure plenty of people can visualize music in the staff view style since they are so familiar with it, but I don't think anyone's mind is pre-set to think about music in that way. The synesthesia condition is not any type of disability or impediment, and often it can offer unique advantages. When I listen to music, I imagine usually somewhat nebulous shapes and patterns intermingling in 3d space. Color is very important - usually it is timbre of instruments that influences what colors and textures I see, but the melodies and chord progressions also have an influence on the overall color of the composition (kinda like a hue/saturation adjustment layer in a photoshop project). Usually music I hear and the music I make comes with a pretty specific color pallet. When I'm making music and I have an idea, it's usually not a specific melody or chord progression I want to create to start, but a set of colors and aesthetic I want to explore in my head. I have a bit of grapheme-color synesthesia too - I just associate some vague colors with letters and numbers. It's much less interesting than the auditory type .

So like....1:1 wiimote...I thought this is what the wiimote was supposed to do already?

The saxophone sounded like Soundblaster general midi. Wooo. That "professional" drummer looked like he knew how to drum, but the sounds weren't always syncing very well. They don't seem to register right when the player would usually want them to. I'm sure it's probably pretty tough technically to iron that out, but I don't see many people getting too into playing the drums on this game other than in a kids' toy capacity.

Whatever the ICO team is working on.....and also a lot of multiplatform games that don't have to be run on MS's noisy, unreliable machine. Oh, and Blu ray. I still want a PS3 at some point.

I liked how the new dashboard/live stuff and avatars basically does all that stuff Sony was talking about in Home...watching movies together, chatting, sharing pictures, etc. Sony shouldn't have revealed Home so soon - MS just went and copied the important parts as fast as they could and brought it out quicker/about the same time. Also, the motion controller was just some BS in the Lips mics. Heh.

FFXIII for Xbox 360.. GG, Microsoft.

Actually last month they started asking questions. The warranty is just 2 months from when you purchase the game. So, last month when I was trying to get my second broken kick pedal replaced, I called them up and set it up for them to send me the box. Someone screwed up on their end and it never came. Whatever, that happens. I had to call them up and tell them I never got my box. So we set it up again, but this time, I got an email asking me to confirm my warranty with the receipt (I got RB in November, so I'm obviously WAY out of warranty now). So I had to call them back up again and tell them that they weren't checking this at the time that I had set up the replacement that they screwed up. They were cool with that, so I did finally get the replacement. But when I was on the phone I talked to them about it and they mentioned that in the past they weren't checking any warranty stuff, but now they will check everyone. So, if your stuff is over 2 months old, you won't be getting any replacements any more. Even if a replacement part that is less than 2 months old breaks. They go by the time of the full game purchase. I can't get anything replaced any more.

I am fucking getting this. I'm definitly getting the RB2 disc. Ok so - my Rock Band experience has gone thus: Bought RB1 for $160 on launch day. Rocked it with friends for a month Guitar - We all like the frets a lot, but the squishy strum is a bit lame. Squishy strum broke....got it replaced. Someone dropped our mic. It busted so we got it replaced. Month later, busted kick pedal #1 due to lots of expert play. Got it replaced. A few months of weekends of hardcore play + drinking with lots of friends. Kick pedal #2 broke. Got it replaced. Month of good play with friends. Kick pedal #3 broke. Taped a couple pencils on it...it rocked for a few more months till the plastic broke at the hinge. Got it replaced. Had to argue a bit because they are beginning to check for the 2 month warranty which starts at the date of purchase. It's replaced now. I bought an ebay kick pedal metal thing with a hinge for $30. Installed it on new kick pedal and it feels soooo sweet and I don't expect it to break. 2 weeks ago....blue pad on drums is starting to be very unreliable. Lame. Gotta hit it hard and quick hits don't register a lot. Warranty is over, so I might try to repair it myself. I've bought probably 50 download songs over the months. We have parties at my place often, and my housemates play the game often. I get reimbursed for the download songs sometimes because everyone is playing on my 360. This game is definitely the game that has most often been in my 360 and we still only have like 70 achievement points on it. we don't care. We just play band quick play for hours on hours on the weekends while we drink and have friends over. I usually play drums for 30 minutes or so when I get home from work on the week days. It's a good stress reliever to bang on some shit for a bit. Even though the hardware is always breaking, its been a great experience and worth the money. I'm getting to the point where playing the drums is extremely fluid and fun for me. Rock Band 2 for me is basically a bulk purchase of a lot of new song content. PLUS the new hardware is available. The $300 drum hardware looks like my dream. I'm hoping it will not break. Also, I've heard it can act as a correct midi controller, so I could actually use it as a legit drum controller for learning real drums and using in my music. I'm a bit worried that it doesn't come with a second pedal for hi hats though. If I don't buy this premium set, I'll definitely be getting the normal one. It's got 2 expansion slots for cymbals apparently. Maybe it will be compatible with GH4? I don't really care much about GH4 though - everything it's got, so does RB1 and RB2, and that music creation stuff....I guess that's cool, but so is MTV music creator 1, 2, 3, oh, and I sort of make music with software on my own already. Normally $300 is too much, but you know what - I won that ourstage grand prize a couple months ago, so I'm thinking I might splurge on this thang.

I'm thinking about getting a Macbook. Probably the low-end one that is $1099. I can get $100 off and a free iPod (which I would sell) if I get my mom who works in a school to buy it with the EDU discount. Somebody I work with is interested in buying my old Dell 1.86 ghz centrino machine for $250. I'd use it mostly for chillin and light music stuff, as I have a pretty ok PC desktop. I wonder if my Ableton Live liscence will allow me to use both a PC and Mac version...if not, I'll probably just put windows on the thing.

Get well soon, dude.

Apparently a 60 gb version is coming out soon, after they sell out stock of 20gb's with the upcoming $299 price drop.

Whut? I got no such cds... -
I'd suggest adding some somewhat severe color filters to the video...stuff to make it a little over-saturated and have color tints. TM is really moody and you could get away with it. Add some dirt!

You guys played Dark Sector yet? I just got it for $20 off amazon (thanks cheapassgamer!) and it is pretty good. It's like Gears of War minus co-op, plus RE4 europe and zombies, plus magical boomerang. Pretty damn good for $20. Graphics are quite nice. The controls are a TOTAL rip of Gears, but they've de-emphasized guns a bit. Dual wielding a gun and your glaive is pretty cool, and getting further into the game, the powers you get and the strategies you can use are getting pretty rad.
