  1. So I just bought a PS3 from a store that just received 3 20GB systems today and nobody knew about it. Wish me luck for selling it on eBay.
  2. Whoa. Everyone in the gaming industry is there to MAKE MONEY. If they offer a service you don't want, like PS1 games for 5$ or NES games for 5$, and you have to option to not buy it, then don't. Buying is like voting.
  3. No you're wrong. This is completely another issue, unrelated to the message I was trying to convey; i.e. using slave labor is hardly a marketing strategy. Also, I'm pretty sure Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft didn't get so big without getting their hands dirty.
  4. I sure hope you don't go into business. I was talking from a consumer's perspective. I don't care who innovates more than whom (and who copies whom), or who has bigger balls than whom, or who makes the best ads, or who cares the most about children, I just want to play good games. I'm well aware that marketing has a huge impact on sales, I'm just saying that for us, who are relatively well informed about the industry, it shouldn't. I don't really care if people from Sony say : "We want this system to be expensive and we want to fuck our customers up the ass" whereas people from Nintendo say : "We want a revolution in the gaming world and we care about the gamers, especially the hard core, since we work hard to make the best games for them so that they can have a thoroughly enjoyable experience". A company exists to make profits, and it's all just a bunch of guys working on projects. There are just different ways to pass it on the public. They don't wanna be friends with us, they want us to buy their games. In the end, all that matters to us are the game themselves, not what the company that makes the console looks like.
  5. Sony literally has the whole company on the line with the PS3 - boycotting them can have a tremendous effect on their future. Only if, say, several million people call to arms and refuse to purchase. I was trying to point out the minority who decided against Sony for this single incident. I still can't figure out why people are 'boycotting' Sony in the first place. Too expensive? That's not boycotting, that's called not being able to afford it or not thinking it's worth the money. Which is fine. What other reasons are there? Everything else seems to be unrelated to the actual PS3 unit itself. Did you guys love Lik-Sang THAT much? I still can't figure why people seem to have a particular attachment to a corporation. I just happen to like games that are on the playstation... So what if whatever company has bad management/marketing/shit ? In the end, all that matters is the games.
  6. What kind of ad lasts 2:40 ?
  7. Predictions regarding a console war are like prediction in hockey: so-called 'experts' always compare numbers and predict which team will win based on player skill, their experience with their team, their experience in playoffs, their supposedly quantitative determination and so forth. And in the end, it INVARIABLY goes against predictions. So here are MY (wrong) predictions. Wii will be cool for like two weeks, a month maybe, but then players will get tiret of this new gimmick. Osu Tatakae Ouendan ! wall a cool game because it was on a portable console and you can play at school and while taking a shit, but wouldn't do nearly as well on a home console. So I don't really care about the "revolution" that's coming. X360 will suffer from lack of Japanese support. Sports game from EA are still cool though, and will probably sell like hot cakes in the States. Let's see if they can pierce the Japanese market. Microsfot has a huge advantage over the other two in NA because programming for Xenon is slightly different than programming with PS3 or Wii, so developes might feel more driven towards Xenon to maximize development time on creativity, playability and level design instead of technicalities. PS3 will offer more eye candy at launch it is actually a blu-ray player but will be moe expensive for those who are short on money. i STILL don't think 650$ is expensive for a Blu-ray player/gaming console. It has been gven bad press and their PR people are very bad, so that might a bit hard in the end. Still, they will set a lot of consoles because they will support Madden NFL, Pokemon Blue-grey-red-kaleidoscope colored and Final Fantasy. In a perfect world, there would be a console suited to the needs of every particular customer, and I think we're going there. It doesn't so much a competition between which console will be the more fun to play to me, it sounds more like which console will attract what kind of people. My predictions: X360 will remain stable, maybe acquire a bigger part of the Japanese market since Ubisoft is relasing and x350 only naruto game. Everybody will buy a Wii, and it'll be real cool for like 2-3 weesk, but after that people will be missing the regular controller. The main problem for the Wii is that, whereas games for PS2 were portable to Wii because they had similar power, game for PS3 or X360 will have to be adapted for quite a longer time to be compatible with the lower-powered Wii. PS3 will sell well at first, since they have so much corporate support, and I don't see them die anytime soon. People haven't seen its online service yet so that could be a MAJOR drawback, but I think they can adapt.
  8. Yes you do appear to know a lot about chemistry. Please tell us more.
  9. Truly creative and ingenious use of the samples at your disposition. The mixes that impress me most are not the mixes that have the technical perfectness to sound professional, nor those with live instruments that are nearly impossible to play, but those that have arrangements that couldn't have been thought of by anyone else. I think this is a very unique, and effective, interpretation of the theme, so 10/10 for inspiration and creativeness. The instrument all work together to create a complex but cohesive atmosphere while being complex enough to sustain attention through repeated listens. The pads and bass sound absolutely gorgeous, but I have slight issues with the drums and violin lead. The drums all sound fairly good, except the hi-hat which sound a little mechanical in my opinion (maybe too loud or not varied enough in terms of velocity) and the bass drum sounds very thin, especially compared to the taiko drums. Btw, the taiko solo is amazing, even comparable to McVaffe's ultimate drum solo in Kaoss. The violin sounds a little thin for a lead instrument, especially since the shakuhachi sounds so full, so it's a little underpowered. Shakuhachi (and strings, be it koto or shamisen) sample quality and use of samples is flawless. The transition at 3:59 where the bass simply cuts off sounds a little awkward and the ending a little rushed. However, aside from this nitpicking, this is indeed a stellar rendition of the Desolation Road theme and, what is most important, a piece of work you can call your own.
  10. In Canada, the XBOX 360 had a launch price of 500$. Add the 200$ HD-DVD player and its 700$ PS3 will launch at 659$, which is almost half the price of the current blu-ray players, and the same price as the current HD-DVD players. But yeah, the launch title don't seem so impressive, and since it's a new technology and all, it would probably be wise to wait a couple of months to see if everything is working properly. I have confidence that the PS3 will, ultimately, be worth it.
  11. Don't know if it has been mentioned before, but I would recommend more uniformity in the Projects nomenclature. Maybe something like ProjectName - Description where Description is either the name of the game, series, or composer being remixed. Now it's more like inverted : Blood on the Asphalt - Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Doom - The Dark Side of Phobos Or weird: SMProject - Relics of the Chozo CD.rar Also, it would be cool if said projects had writeups too.
  12. I thought the 'x' meant to only mute the strings with your fretting hand.
  13. Trance with guitar could be awesome. Arpeggios with a 3/16 delay and leads with a strong phaser and wide stereo image always do the trick.
  14. Holy damnit christmas. This is fucking amazing. Please watch your language. thanks.
  15. Well I'm not sure where you're going with this, but that was all unintentional. The only song I've borrowed from (apart from the obvious castle theme) is Flight of the Bumble Bee. And by the way, thanks to all of those who have commented on this song.
  16. I used my Ibanez JPM P4, neck pickup (for da bluesy feel), Boss GT3 with my own disto preset (I think I tweaked factory preset Sweet Lead for something like three years before coming up with this one ) and Mesa Boogie Blue Angel Amp. Recorded with a Shure SM57. This setup sucks for heavy distortion rhythm, but is damn cool for leads.
  17. Yes you did hear a snippet of bumblebee What lead ? Do you mean da guitarz ? Or the lead synth that plays in the backdroung ? If that's the case, then it's some synth in Reason, can't remember which.
  18. Very nice. The harpsichord licks make me laugh. This is simply wonderful. Good job, Frog
  19. I'd forget about the Evolutions. They aren't very versatile because you can always hear that Steve Vaiish fatness in their sound. For a metal sound (anything from Aerosmith clean sound to Dream Theater's heavy crunch), I'd recommend DiMarzio Air Norton (neck) and Tone Zone (bridge). That's what I think would sound better on an Ibanez, but you'll never get the 'tearing apart' sound of a Jackson, the bluesy sound of a Strat or the OVERHUGE sound of a Les Paul.
  20. Yep it's very nice. And by nice I mean totally sweet.
