This is so beyond awesome I don't even...
-
I may try to go as well. I have a friend who moved to DC, so it might actually be a possibility. I've never actually met anyone who knows about OCR outside my own circle of friends. But there's definitely a few people around here I'd like to meet. And if I ever get any good at playing an instrument, it would be even cooler to making-the-jams with them.

I love the Super Metroid soundtrack in any incarnation it takes, but this is gorgeous. And a really clever idea, in my opinion. I want you to do every track in the game. Anyone reading this should post how much they agree and put pressure on Yamori to do the whole soundtrack You can't say no to ten thousand of us!! Just kidding... awesome work, man. Thanks for posting this, I'm definitely checking back for updates.

Yeah, it's a baby/toy glockenspiel, and probably the most realistic sound I have at the moment. I do kind of like the small sound, but I could play around with effects a bit. They probably could use some humanizing, but I was feeling kind of lazy, so I'll get to it later. I hadn't really thought about hand drums for this track, since it's more meant to be like an ambient scene with some background music, but I'll play around with the idea of some unconventional percussion maybe, like maybe using the snow steps as the percussion and not just as background throughout the mix. It's kind of Bjorkish, but it could fit nicely. I'll probably try out some hand percussion as well. Thanks for the quick responses guys

This isn't going to be an OCR submission, but I want to share it with you guys, since it's ultimately for you anyway. It's a short ambient/scenic demo for a project I've started, which remixes or rearranges the Temple themes from Ocarina of Time, and their corresponding ocarina themes. I anticipate there being a scenic/ambient track like this one for each area, but it all depends on how much time and effort I can put into the project. I've got a Shadow Temple WIP in the works at the moment, and also a Bolero of Fire WIP many of you already know about. I plan to remake Serenade of Water, though you can check out the original version here on OCR. This is going to be more of an EP than an album, even though it's got a lot of tracks, mostly because I'm only doing source tracks related to the Temples theme. If anybody is interested in this little project and would like to help, that would be totally cool. It would be neat to get some art to go along with the tracks, though maybe I'm dreaming a little too much. The rest I haven't figured out yet, but it would be to get a little torrent going, though I've never done that before. Otherwise I at least plan to put it up on mediafire, megaupload and youtube, as a playlist. Anyway, here's a tentative track list: Ocarina of Time: Temples 1. Ice Cavern (Scenic) 2. Water Temple 3. Serenade (Reprise) 4. Lost Woods (Scenic) 5. Forest Temple 6. Minuet 7. Ghost Lanterns (Scenic) 8. Shadow Temple 9. Nocturne 10. Fire Temple 11. Bolero 12. Volvagia (for Project Badass) 13. Desert (Scenic) 14. Spirit Temple 15. Requiem 16. Temple of Time If anybody plays any instruments and has a means of recording, and would be willing to record some parts, send me a PM. I'll be slowly chipping away at this project over the next year (realistically), so there's definitely no deadlines, and if you want to help, it's totally up to you and I won't hold you to it. This track list, again, is just tentative. I have no idea how much of it I will be able to finish, or whether or not I'll be combining certain Ocarina and Temple themes into a single mix. I'm not planning on keeping this thread alive as a project thread, because it's pretty much a solo project, though I'm really looking for people who would be willing to record live parts for things like violin, cello, and voice, especially voice, female or male. It would not entail any lyrics. But I would definitely love some help in the vocal department for tracks like Shadow Temple, Spirit Temple, and Temple of Time. If you're open to doing this, please PM me. Ice Cavern Demo: Hope you enjoy. Let me know what you think. Cheers!

No worries. I saw it in Imax 3D, you can bet I had fun Avatar just had something like viewer's regret for me. I loved it the minute after I saw it, and slowly, the more I thought about it, the more I felt like it could have been so much greater, by going in a direction that movie-goers hadn't seen before. But I understand that when you have a half-billion dollar movie in production, you can only be so daring with the story. On the bright side, I heard something about there being sequels : )

Look forward to hearing the mix when you come back to it, I can definitely see this on the site in the future with some more work put into it

Pretty sweet. However... where's the bass drop? Can never enough wub wub, in my book, but a bass drop a must. Speaking of an awesome bass drop, it would be cool if you switched up how rapidly the bass wobbles, like Nero does: And maybe get it cleaner sounding, somehow. I also think it might actually suit the mix better if you upgrade the chiptune leads into some fatter synths. As far as arrangement goes, I think it's an awesome start, just work on the production. Just making the drums sound fatter too would go a long way. And add an intro with a bass drop. It would be more epic in my humble opinion

People like me wanted to enjoy it. But it's kind of insulting to tell someone you wish they would simply enjoy what's presented to them. That's like saying "I wish you didn't have opinions and would just like everything." I've been hoping and waiting for a good science fiction film for a long time, and I had high hopes for this one, because it was high concept. Is it too much to ask that people not rehash the same stories and themes over and over again? It's awfully depressing

You know what would be a great idea? Avant-garde remixes!
Theophany replied to EC2151's topic in ReMix Requests
I've been working on a free tonality shadow temple WIP for a few weeks, but I've also been thinking about maybe experimenting with tone rows. It's hard to find a balance I like, plus it's a style I've never done before, but I'm still finding it a rewarding experience. I'll post it once it's listenable. But first you need to calm down. I've never heard of tone rows being pitched so enthusiastically as a gimmick -
Let's talk about OverClocked ReMix music videos.
Theophany replied to Less Ashamed Of Self's topic in General Discussion
I actually did a music video for 'With the Quickness' with a shit-ton of mega man footage back in high school. I think it would be kind of fun to make one now, though I'm not sure I have the time. But if you think about it, music videos are just about the only thing left that OCR doesn't have. It would be kind of funny, though, if there were music videos that went along with mixes posted on the site for special occasions like Halloween, since there would be time to plan a mix and a video to go with it. It would be over the top, and definitely not every track would warrant a video, but I think some people would definitely get a kick out of it, if the videos were creative and went with the song in an entertaining way. Easier said than done, though. I suppose if ocr music videos got judged and posted on their own, like mixes do, people could make a video for any song that's on the site. Hosting would be a problem, though, even with h264 compression, since I'm not sure if just relying on youtube would be a good idea. I think the two songs that deserve a music video no matter what is pretty obvious though. Team Gato, and I GOT THE SPACE BEAM, YEAH. Don't tell me that wouldn't be awesome. -
Thanks... I hadn't heard this one, actually. It's really good. Tail Cave isn't the easiest, most melodic track to remix, it's kind of nebulous and slow moving, so it was surprisingly cool to see Peeples made a dance track out of it. I think it's hard to compete with a dance/trance oriented track when your going for an ambient or chilled out kind of feeling, but on the flip side, I kind of feel like there's quite a lot of electronica and energetic work on the site already, so hopefully people who aren't into that as much will really appreciate this album, and our takes on the source material. I certainly will. Look forward to hearing your work

OCR01404 - Secret of Mana "Dragon Song"
Theophany replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is one amazing remix. Everything impressed me in this one. It constantly amazes me at how much good content OCR has, and how many great remixers. I'm getting nostalgic here. I'd better stop. -
The best thing about OCR, besides the awesome concept and content, is the community. What could be cooler than the collaborative remixing of video game music in a community of utterly committed and enthusiastic musicians, and near-legions of video game music lovers? I think OCR is a dream come true, not just for djp, but for everyone who has ever found this site.

Thanks, man. I look forward to hearing your work too. I'm always fascinated to hear different takes on the same source material. It's one of the things I love most about OCR. Also can't wait to hear the other tracks... The fact that there's no deadline to this project kind of makes me wonder how long I'm going to have to wait to hear everyone else's work, but I understand doing it this way will yield some most awesome results.

Damn, that's awful... D:

Wow, that's some pounding trance you got there. Who's the one other remixer who did an orchestral tune? With the choir? I got your back, man This preview is insane. Amazing work everyone!!

Wow. This looks cool. Way different from the original Lufia 1 & 2, but those battle sequences and the new imagery with the revamped music sold me. As much as I love the old series, the turn-based combat gets pretty damn boring if you're not fighting an interesting foe like Gades, and the idea of going through endless battles for experience points is one of the weakest aspects of RPGs in that style for me. It never used to bother me, but now it actually keeps me from progressing in RPGs I try to play. A new approach could make the game a lot more fun... though you might lose certain aspects of the original, you can always go back and play the old ones.

Well, I had to contribute SOMETHING seeing as my Demon Tower WIP is currently non-existent Also, Dan is the man (his brother too). They do no wrong.

Do you play as a male or female in a game, given a choice?

OCR01933 - Super Metroid "Berinstar"
Theophany replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Really excellent. -
Actually, Dan just finished mastering his album, and I'm talking to him about a possible collaboration after Wild Arms, so really, this might be the best time. I could e-mail him and see if he'd be up for taking one of the open tracks... EDIT: I e-mailed him to see if he'd be up for taking one of the open tracks.

I play as a pre-pubescent boy with wings whenever possible. Or a pre-pubescent boy wearing green pajamas and a sleeping cap. -
That's looking damncredible. Fantastic work, my friend... and it's only your first go? I may audition for another extra track just to be more a part of a project with album art this awesome. Actually I think I will. And in return I want this... in poster size...
