  1. This one's only been mentioned once in this thread, so I really, really have to give my most earnest recommendation for the show I just finished a minute ago: Nichijou (aka My Ordinary Life) It is a slice-of-life comedy, but one that introduces bizarre situations and treats them as ordinary as can be, and then the very next instant takes a completely ordinary occurrence and ramps up the energy until any semblance of realism is blown to pieces. At its core, the show is the very definition of a vignette series. It's an episodic show with each episode a series of episodic scenes. You won't find much in the way of "plot" in Nichijou. What you will find, however, is a show that uses its episodic nature to play up the comedy and give chaos to organization. The scenes are often broken up by random, very short sequences that have nothing to do with what was previously occurring, and then it throws you right back. It's used very effectively for comedic timing, and to give you a breather after a particularly long or intense sequence. The animation and voice acting is done superbly. Many of the jokes may have fallen completely flat had the production value not been as good, and the voices given to the characters does everything to bring them and their relationships to life. An absurd life, but one that is adorable at times. Combined, these aspects allow the relatively simplistic-to-a-fault comedy of the show to shine. When watching Nichijou, it wasn't until the 7th episode that it finally hooked me. Not because of any fault with the show, but because I expected a little more cohesiveness, some sort of overarching plot of some sort. Once I realized the true nature of the Nichijou, I could finally enjoy it for what it is. It was made to entertain in the most simplistically ideal manner possible, and it achieves that spectacularly. Take it all as it comes, nothing more or less. That is the state of mind it wants you to be in. I ended up in an almost perpetual state of grinning and giggling like an idiot throughout my viewing of each episode; this is the first time anything has ever done that to me, in any medium. While it won't appeal to absolutely everybody, if you're looking for some quality, simple comedy, look no further.
  2. Actual prizes is something that crossed my mind today, but I wouldn't be able to do much in the way of that until I got a job and money to burn. Also, I'm thinking through some fundamental format changes. More on that later.
  3. I didn't even realize they were different... Gotta listen to both, now, to find out what the heck is different about the two. I cannot let myself not know!
  4. I have it. Give me a minute to upload it somewhere. It's the 160kbps version. Here it is: http://www.mediafire.com/?8c6i8p1ghr9o3d5
  5. Go right ahead. The hate has to go somewhere, and with Notch no longer actively working on Minecraft... But seriously, I've also heard (and I can't substantiate this) that the Bukkit code is a horrible mishmash of code. Much like the early days of Minecraft. So the hate transfer would probably be an easy one.
  6. Seriously. With all the base changes made to the game (height limit changes, block ID expansion, map file format, AI routines, etc) along with all the other changes, I wouldn't expect anything less than a month-long wait for Bukkit. Bukkit is great and all, but the team isn't exactly speedy with these things in the best of circumstances. Having so much to change is going to make the update wait a long one.
  7. Sea level stays where it is; the terrain generator hasn't changed. So yeah, three times the normal building space.
  8. More news on the upcoming 1.2 update: http://www.mojang.com/2012/02/14/new-minecraft-map-format-anvil/ https://twitter.com/#!/jeb_/status/169168956714782722 https://twitter.com/#!/jeb_/status/169511353197920256 https://twitter.com/#!/jonkagstrom/status/169031723328352256 https://twitter.com/#!/jeb_/status/169417519600386048 1.2 is shaping up to likely be the best update to the game in a long time. EDIT: And if that weren't enough... https://twitter.com/#!/jonkagstrom/status/169519905589297153
  9. I'm contemplating an overhaul of the competition, currently, due to lack of submissions as of late. I'm not really helping with fixing the absence of submissions by submitting stuff myself, but getting my life in order is of higher priority than writing. Anyway, keep an eye on the thread for details. And if you have any suggestions for changes, feel free to voice them.
  10. https://twitter.com/#!/jeb_/status/167918937474994176 Well there you go, Aba. Soon enough there should be tools to edit biome data. And if that wasn't enough... https://twitter.com/#!/jonkagstrom/status/167952722849579008
  11. https://twitter.com/#!/jeb_/statuses/166808028413308928 https://twitter.com/#!/jeb_/status/166809725755854848 https://twitter.com/#!/jeb_/status/166819261942202368 Well it's about god damn time. Backward compatible, too!
  12. I'm still trying to get back into the game, so if this goes down, I'm good for participating.
  13. You've doomed us all. We're going to have bridges to nowhere EVERYWHERE.
  14. I've found three secret rooms so far. You're making it too easy.
  15. Huh? My post from earlier this week is gone... Odd. Well, anyway, I'll repost what it was. Basically, no one voted last month aside from me. Can't have a competition without votes, so I have no results to post. All you people submitting need to vote, or else there's little point in having the competition. I'm disappointed. It's a new year, and that means FREEFORM submissions are open. Please, submit AND vote in this one. Dates for the submission and voting periods are in the first post.
  16. Just completed this game on Owata Mode (aka 1-hit-death mode, aka dew-dew-dew-on-contact mode). It was rough at times, not going to lie. I think the most frustrating part was the boss of the first Dr. Mad stage. Infuriating. Took me a good hour to finally kill them. Dr. Mad himself was also tough, but mostly due just to figuring out the 2nd form's pattern and where the holes were. It's a satisfying feeling, finally beating it like that.
  17. Yeah, I was gonna ask whether the Mumble server was still around... Still, it's hard to say it'd be worth it. Right now we don't have very many regulars, and in my experience, it's only been worth using when there's about a half-dozen people on it or more. Any less and it doesn't really stay active. And then there's the separation of conversations thing. If we could get more people active in it, even if they're not playing Minecraft, I'd be all for it.
  18. The real world, probably. We're all getting older, getting into jobs... less time and energy to really get into community gaming all the time. We need something to rekindle the fire so more people make it something they feel the need to do. I'll help just as soon as I have the money to buy the games everyone's playing now.
  19. What's your thoughts on how good it is now that it's been a few months of playing it (I assume)?
  20. In my Music folder, there's a folder for Game Remixes. In there, albums go in Remix Albums, and individual OCR stuff goes in the OCR folder. Inside that, if there's enough mixes for the game(s), it gets its own folder with the name of that game or, if it's a part of a series, the name of the series (Mario games -> Mario folder, Chrono Trigger/Cross -> Chrono Series folder, etc.). The rest goes in the Misc folder.
  21. I'm liking this game quite a bit. I'm playing with a gamepad, which is a lot easier to manage, so take that into account. The difficulty seems about right. However, I haven't actually played the NES Rockman games, so I can't really compare it to them. Fun game, hope there's more to come.
  22. What problems? As far as I know, the only thing that needed fixing was replacing the glowstone the buttons were on, which I did maybe a little less than a week ago.
  23. The new terrain generator also came with new biome code, so now everything is based on that new code. I got off relatively easy in my area, just a few inconvenient spots of swamp.
