  1. Is it just me or does every high-level alchemy recipe ultimately rely on Brighten Rocks? Also, some quests just aren't worth completing. In fact, a lot of quests feel like the reward simply isn't worth it. Either the quest is simple and thus the reward not worth the hassle or it requires a really rare item and the reward is something easier to obtain.

  2. I tried fighting Baramos... with a level 23 party. Needless to say things did not go well.

I'm currently just grinding and completing quests. I'm going back to job classes that aren't over level 40 and grinding, grinding, grinding. I want mah stat bonuses!

That said Baramos looks pretty goofy.

  3. No, Layton says that they're all illusions. Or at the least, that's what HE says and Layton is ALWAYS right apparently.

And even if they WEREN'T (which is plausible), it's pretty damned hard not to NOTICE AGING. Yeah, that 5 year old kid somehow didn't notice THAT HE'S 55 NOW.

Actually, the reason I think everyone was still there was because in the post-game, if you talk to people (like the aforementioned 5-year-old) some of them complain that they've been feeling a lot more tired lately.

I don't remember Layton saying the people were illusions. Just that the entire current appearance of the town was an illusion caused by the hallucinogenic gas.

The real reason the plot is so silly is because it teeters entirely on a bunch of photos at the train station and the idea that the effects of the gas are immediate.

  4. If you're having trouble with unlocking the gladiator class, remember that slimes won't run if you're a low level and have crap equipment on. So change everyone to a new class and have one character equipped with a copper sword and leave everyone else bare. Voila! Easy gladiator unlocking!

Too bad armamentalist and ranger aren't this easy.

  5. It's not like wolves wear pants, you know.

And no Fantastic 4? Bummer. Actually, we have yet to see any Marvel girls, which is why we're getting the likes of Felicia and Trish on Capcom's side...

But maybe Black Cat? Squirrel Girl? Storm? Elektra? Er... Aside from more X-men ladies, is there really anyone else?

  6. No important characters join. The game is all about you and your friends saving the world, which is something I've really missed in RPGs in the past few generations. I love naming my characters and adventuring with them. My only regret is that you can't give them beards, so Stevo can't be in my party. :-(

At one point in the story the main character must pose as a student at a school. Having a beard would kind of make that difficult.

That's my reasoning anyway. That and anime characters have some bizarre aversion to facial hair 95% of the time.

  7. Aaaaaaaaaaaaa I gained 30 levels in Martial Artist in like 7 hours oh god aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Seriously, this game's got me in its sinister clutches. I heard the story is basically 50 hours long. At the rate I'm going it'll take me 150 to beat the game.

After those 30 levels in Martial Artist I moved on to Armamentalist and gained 10 levels there.

  8. Anyone get to explore the first randomly-generated dungeon (you get the map from Collapsus)? The monsters were all easy-peasy, but the boss raped me like my ass was covered in candy.

What I'm saying is, it's probably best to wait until your party is level 30 or so.

  9. Get used to that. I alchemized up a slime hood and a slime suit... I put it on my mage and now he's dressed like a Slime Stack enemy and looks absolutely retarded, with all his other equipment clipping through his armour.

Even when the armour matches it looks bad!

Also what is up with the kilt leg armour being hiked up to the crotch in battle.

  10. The impression I get is that anyone of any level can join at any time in the story. In fact, it seems like you don't even need to follow the host player's party -- you can go wherever you like and be in a completely different party.

EDIT: I've been playing the hell out of this. Got 7 party members made up (and thankfully it's no minoriteam). I named everyone after things or adjectives: Oriole, Chalice, Pale, Kray, Harp, Mosaic, and Lima. Oriole is a minstrel, of course, and everyone else is one of the six default classes.
